UPDATE/REPAIR: ASKING FOR AN OFC FAVOUR?? NF

Strange, as of last night I am still running Exodus with no issues at all, mind you I am still running 16, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
-
I was starting to have similar issues then a friend stopped by: I still don't understand this thing but I fumble through it. Apparently my problem was that I hadn't set it up do do automatic updates, he changed that and it seems to be working fine now. Just wondering if since you wiped yours clean and re installed if it defaulted back to manual updates. I still have buffering issues occasionally but just go to a different source and can usually get around that. I am running 40 mbps wireless.

Nominations for 1st Annual OFC Awards

Thanks but all I am doing is trying to give back in return for all the times people from this board have helped me when I have needed it -
A better way to secure 12V Batteries please.

Ya, similar to what Drifter posted -
A better way to secure 12V Batteries please.

Two straps: one secured to the floor and has a metal loop in the other end. A second strap that is secured to the floor on the opposite side of the battery and is about 8" longer than needed to reach the metal loop. Put velcro on that one. Pass the velcroed strap through the loop and back on it self to secure the battery. I had a similar setup in my boat and it worked well. -
Trailer park, get a golf cart, haul fuel batteries every thing

There is a trick you'll never forget, glad it worked out for you! -

Glad that worked for you, the wire we use is about the diameter of the wire you'd find on those tie wraps (but we use a piece about 8-10" long) flexible enough to pull through but stiff enough to feed down into the gas tank and fish out through the gas cap. -

I couldn't have kept my cool and would have probably shown the kids that there are consequences for anti social behavior! When the cops did show up I would have just claimed he was attacking me and I feared for my life and defended myself, (us old guys can get away with stuff like that)

OK, CJ phoned, he is working today and will try to assemble the information you need. Watch your email for further follow up but it might be a day or two. As for a G2G, any time my friend, our door is always open for you and yours! -

Big Cliff replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
We use a piece of fine wire, Feed the wire through the passage where you want the fuel line to go and out the fuel cap hole. Puncture a hole in the fuel line right in the 45° cut you made in the fuel line (we just use the wire itself to do that) (push the wire about 1/2 an inch through the hole then bend the wire back on itself and wrap it around the main wire. Spray a bit of WD 40 on the fuel line then gently pull the fuel line through using the wire. If you still can't get it, plan a road trip to Lindsay, I'll do it for you no problem, no charge! -

Was there an OFC get together on Sturgeon lake this past weekend?

If you have something to say and proof that what you say is true then you should say it, otherwise your comments don't hold much value. -

Big Cliff replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Well I think they could have chosen a slightly different name and wonder if it was an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the OFC logo, pretty smart from a commercial stand point. Apart from that I really don't see any issues but then again I haven't had any involvement with them. -
Couple of years ago we reported two guys that were keeping OOS fish and were way over their limit, they got nailed. The VERY next day they were right back in the same spot doing exactly the same thing! Glad to see that these guys at least had to show up in court.

Thinking of buying a fishing lodge....need help!
Big Cliff replied to birddogman99's topic in General Discussion
Well first off welcome to the board and I like your handle, I was owned by a GSP for many years. To answer your questions as best I can: I have only been on one fly-in but guided for several years back in my younger days (a long time ago) On my trip I chose house keeping because I wanted the freedom to eat what I wanted when I wanted, the idea of having to be back at a lodge for supper right in the middle of a good bite didn't appeal to me. I chose fly-in because I wanted something remote for my son and I, no cell phones, no internet, and no one else around to bother us. We had 14' aluminum boats with 9.9 pull start and padded swivel seats (two per boat) which was quite adequate for the lake we were fishing, It was a smaller lake, we didn't have long runs from our camp to get fishing, and we didn't have to worry about rough water. A cedar strip boat requires maintenance, an aluminum not so much. Guides; I think are important especially if you are fishing big water or in something like the French River system where there are numerous hazards. In our case some very basic knowledge and a good map was all that was required. Repeat or move around; well I have only ever done one fly-in and I won't be going back there but there are a few reasons for that. In the past though when i have gone on holidays and found a place I really like I tend to go back to where I'm comfortable rather than explore and take a chance. Hope this helps, good luck! -
Sounds like a good trip, can I ask where you were

French River Trip...scary start, wet week, decent fishing
Big Cliff replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
Wow, that would be quite a scare, glad it all worked out with no one hurt and no serious damage. Too bad about the weather, this has been the wettest windiest start to summer I can ever remember. -
The trip of a lifetime and now we are back
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, I value your (and all the other input). Mattice was one of five recommended to me by one of our own but in his defense he did tell me that he had never personally been to Vick Lake so I sure can't hold him responsible. I started with a list of 5 places that were recommended by a trusted source, narrowed it down to species and target, then by availability and amenities, price was the last thing on the list and I was willing to pay what it cost. There were several reasons we ended up choosing Vick Lake: It was a catch and consume lake, many others were posted as C&R and we both love fresh fish. Vick lake offered 5 day trips, would take a group of two, being a smaller lake it was less susceptible to problems with high winds and was available on the dates that worked for us. The fact that the brochure made it sound like a newly established camp with a new cabin and new equipment made me think this would make the trip even more special. It was remote, our closest neighbor was about 7 miles away. It had hydro and hot and cold running water, neither of which are necessities but but sure make things more comfortable. I guess I really wanted to impress my son, not that I need to, we have a wonderful relationship but like most dads I want the best I can give him and this was our first ever fly-in and the only chance we have had in many years to spend more than a day or two together just the two of us. I'm not interested in a refund, compensation, or a free trip, if I was to accept any of those I would feel obligated to edit this post. I love helping others and if sharing my experience will help keep others from getting misled then it's worth the cost. No amount of money is going to change the facts anyway. As for the distance and traveling time, I'm a truck driver so 12 or so hours behind the wheel is a normal day for me. You are right about the cost though, by the time you factor in food, supplies, fuel..... it actually came to just under $5000.00 (and neither of us drink LOL). Perhaps I could have done more planning, checked with people that had been there (if I could have found any). Everything just seemed to fall into place, all the reviews were great even on Google but none of them mentioned Vick Lake. It was a lesson learned and I won't make that mistake again. -
The trip of a lifetime and now we are back
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the comments and replies. I'll try to answer most of the questions here rather than individually: As many have observed, time spent with our children no matter what we are doing is priceless, the older we get the more we seem to realize that it is a limited commodity so make the best you can out of every moment. It wasn't the quality of the accommodations or the facilities that bothered me, I've camped and tented most of my life. It wasn't misleading advertising, they outright lied in their description of what we were getting for our money. I wanted this trip to be a very special one because I don't know if my son and I will ever get another opportunity to get away like this. I paid $3661.20 for what was supposed to be a 5 day trip for two people in a new camp with new equipment...... none of which was true! There were a number of other issues... mattresses filthy and stained (we ended up putting garbage bags over ours before we would even put our sleeping bags on them) but I digress. I read all the reviews I could find on Mattice and as has been pointed out most are glowing (however most are on their website), I very much doubt you'd see this one there. Some of the reports I read are by professionals who are paid or receive free trips for writing their reports, perhaps they get special treatment. (I got some interesting feed back from Auston Elliott, the outfitters son about how that works but I won't post that publicly) Would I do another fly-in, absolutely although not with Mattice, I don't mind rustic or basic (although I think my days of tenting are over LOL) Also I would be asking a lot more questions before I plunk my money down, I don't mind paying for what I get but I like to get what I pay for. I am already thinking towards next year and am trying to decide what I'd like to do, I'm sort of thinking I'd like to go for Arctic char or something like that. I'm not a big trophy guy, I'd prefer to catch numbers rather than size. Oh well, lots of time to decide LOL. As for an honest report: I'm not trying to get back at Mattice or anything, what's done is done! Many of the members here are my friends, some may be planning their "trip of a lifetime". I'd like to think that the information I have provided might make their trip a little more enjoyable. -
Sorry to hear this my friend, go get checked out anyway, perhaps they can give you something for the cough and/or the pain.
