  1. I guess prayers do work sometimes!
  2. And we don't always realize they are silly until something happens. I go out on the ice on my ATV when I think the ice is safe, I've never gone out thinking "I wonder if I can find a thin spot and sink my bike"! My heart goes out to the family.
  3. So you should have had him charged with false arrest!
  4. Just had a wonderful day fishing with CPH. We met up at 7:00 am and had a fantastic breakfast at the curling club in Oshawa then headed out to lake X. I had trailered my ATV as I had a new 4 man SubZero I wanted to try and walking 3/4 of a mile hauling a sled load of gear is getting a little hard for this old man. CPH thought it was kind of neat when I un hooked the trailer from my SUV and hooked it up to the ATV, we loaded all our gear and away we went (yes Beans we had helmits LOL). We got to the secret fishing hole, drilled a couple of holes and within minutes Steve had fish on. Wee fished for a bit and while it wasn't too cold we decided to try to set up the hut. It took us about 5 minutes to figure it all out and binge hut up. Then I lit my new Bear Cat heater up. we moved our gear inside, and continued fishing. We didn't count but there was plenty of action and we managed to land about 25 nice keepers and the action was fairly steady until about noon then Steve hooked a nice size pike which gave him one heck of a good fight but got off just short of the hole. That was the end of the pirch bite. We stayed until about 1:45 and decided to head back. I have to tell you, that SubZero was wonderful, lots of head room, plenty of space for two guys and all their gear and that little heater kept it quite comfortable. I parked the ATV on one side and the trailer on the other to anchor it to, it wasn't going to go anywhere LOL.Packing up was a breeze, I would say it took us less than 2 minutes to drop it down and pack it up. In the future I would think we could set it up easily in less than 2 minutes now that we know how it all unfolds. Anyway a wonderful day with a great friend, some fish to boot, what more can a man ask for. Thanks again Steve for a fantastic day!
  5. I do love my HDS5 especially since they up graded the software, It was good before but it is fantastic now.
  6. I think both sides of this topic have been well explained and debated too death. I doubt that any further good can come from continuing with it. I would respectfully request that the modorators shut it down. No more good can come from letting it go any further.
  7. Two Newfies, Larry and Doug, are sitting at their favourite bar drinking beer. Larry turns to Doug and says, 'You know, I'm tired of going through life without an education. Tomorrow I think I'll go to the Community College and sign up for some classes.' Doug thinks it's a good idea and the two leave. The next day, Larry goes down to the college and meets Dean of Admissions, who signs him up for the four basic classes: Math, English, history, and Logic. 'Logic?' Larry says. 'What's that?' The dean says, 'I'll give you an example. Do you own a weed eater?' 'Yeah.' 'Then logically speaking, because you own a weed eater, I think that you would have a yard.' 'That's true, I do have a yard.' 'I'm not done,' the dean says. 'Because you have a yard, I think logically that you would have a house.' 'Yes, I do have a house.' 'And because you have a house, I think that you might logically have a family.' 'Yes, I have a family. 'I'm not done yet. Because you have a family, then logically you must have a wife. And because you have a wife, then logic tells me you must be a heterosexual.' 'I am a heterosexual. That's amazing, you were able to find out all of that because I have a weed eater.' Excited to take the class now, Larry shakes the Dean's hand and leaves to go meet Doug at the bar. He tells Doug about his classes, how he is signed up for Math, English, History, and Logic. 'Logic? ' Doug says, 'What's that?' Larry says, 'I'll give you an example. Do you have a weed eater?' 'No.' 'Then you're a queer.'
  8. "How do you figure the doughnut stereotype started?" Do any of you know where it started? It actually started because many donugt shops were the only places open late at night and they were cash businesses. They were often targeted by guys knowing they could grab some cash and get away quickly so many of the coffee/donut shop owners started offering the cops free coffee and donuts so they would come around more often durring their night shift. Once that started the number of roberies dropped dramatically. The tradition lives on to this day! Now, why don't we start a thread to bash lawyers or politicians? What about Snaggers or people that take OS fish or over their limit(oh wait they are fisher persons too aren't they so if a few bad cops mean most of them are bad it only stands to reason that most fisher persons must be bad because a few break the law). Sorry, I don't see the logic in that attitude!
  9. As do I and I respect Terry and his right to his opinion as I am sure he does mine! The beauty of friendship is that you can discuss and sometimes agree to disagree on something but still enjoy each others company at the end of the day.
  10. We've obviously had some very different experiences Terry. I too served time in the armed forces, 1RCR Delta Company Airborne. I carried a gun, was trained on rocket launchers, SMGs and several other things, I also had rights that perhaps the average person didn't have. Does that mean I am a bad person? Does that mean that all soldiers are bad people? Well, maybe in the eyes of some.
  11. Yes they have for the most part anyway. There is a call centre right here in Lindsay.
  12. You know what I ment!
  13. Regardless she is a real beauty. If it would mean anything to you, I'd be happy to try and track backwards although if the paper trail has been broken it might not be of any use. If it really isn't something you'd be interested in then just enjoy your pup and remember she could be from a long line of champions but she will always be a champion to you no matter what..
  14. I'm sorry but it really bothers me when guys call cops morons and the like. Perhaps I'm just lucky but I have never in my 65 years had a bad incident with a police officer, in fact just the opposite! I have always been treated fairly and in fact many many times I have had them go out of their way to help me. Sure I have had a few tickets over the years but never any that I didn't deserve and even then they were often reduced. Officer Cliff Tate here in Lindsay deserves a commendation for the way he helped me when I found my brother-in-law had passed away. I'll never forget him for what he did for me. Sure there are some bad apples just like there are some bad fisher (persons) but don't tar them all with the same brush. The reason I never tried to become a police officer is because I'd have probably made Dirty Harry look like a little girl by comparison. You guys can think what you want but I have nothing but respect for them! If you can't stand behind them; try standing in front of them!
  15. Do you have papers with her, I still have Andy's pedigree going back 5 generations, His kennel name is Katiebow's Andy. We only allowed him to sire 2 litters both in this general area but all of the pups ended up doing very well. I'd love to find out if there is a relation, I still have all of Andy's ribbons and awards. It might be nice to pass them on to one of his great grand kids. He ended up being a Canadian Show Champion, and won so many field trials and awards, CKC FDJ, FD, NAVHDA NA and UT, Highest Scoring Field Dog.... the list is way too long LOL. He is 14 and near the end now but still goes crazy when he sees a gun come out and anyone that has ever fished here knows that he considers fishing just another form of hunting. Anyway, if it is something you'd like to follow up on I'd be happy to help.
  16. OMG what a beautiful GSP, reminds me of when my Andy was a pup. Where did you get it? Might even be one of Andy's great grand kids.
  17. Glad to hear that you are OK! The spud bar can be replaced, I doubt we would ever be lucky enough to find a second you!
  18. Well, it is more money than that but the HDS5 gives you everything, color fish finder, GPS, flasher. I had to scrimp and save to get mine but I love it. You can also get the ice fishing package for it (which I just did) so it does double duty.
  19. We tried a VOIP phone here about 2 years ago, it was a disaster! I have heard good things about some of the services but I guess I'm a little gun shy right now. We are looking into a package from Virgin Mobile, a pairs package it's called. Anyone know anything about them?
  20. I have noticed some improvement in Bell's customer service in the last little while, people that can actually speak English, a little friendlier. BTW when they put you on hold, they can still hear everything you are saying. The hold routine is used to get you pissed off so you'll give up and hang up. If they ask to put you on hold tell them NO, then they are not allowed to do it. One of the things that really bother me is that there are still a lot of people paying rental on the old style phones back before you could use your own phone. Most of these people are seniors, Bell knows it but won't offer to wave the rental fee or anything unless you call in and ask about it. They are collecting a lot of money every month for phones that aren't even being used anymore. Lastly 30 days cancellation isn't unfair, you contract with them to provide you with a service, I think that 30 days notice isn't unreasonable. I just call them 30+ days in advance and tell them what date I want it cancelled on. We will be cancelling our bell phone service in the very near future and using our cell phones anyway. I'll still be stuck with them for Satellite but that is OK, you are allowed up to 6 receivers on your account. I have 1 at my son's place, 1 at my daughter's place, (I have cottages there (hint hint) and 3 here. So, if you have kids or friends that want satellite TV...... well, you figure it out. So from now on, if you want to talk to Big Cliff my cell # is 705-928-8899
  21. Well, I have tried all the fancy stuff over the years but I have to be honest with you, a drop shot rig with a small (perch sized) hook about 18" above the sinker, I put a small piece of red wool (1/4 inch long)on the hook shank with a drop of Krazy glue and a pin head minnow. I think the red wool looks like blood to the walleye. All I can tell you for sure is it does make a difference. Bounce the sinker on the bottom, it stirs up the silt and looks like a minnow feeding, jig, jig, pause. The walleye will ususlly hit right after you pause, most of the time you will just feel a thud, set the hook and you have your fish on. Crappie: again a small hook but this time put a piece of split shot about a foot above the hook, no sinker on the bottom. A pin head minnow, and that is all there is to it. If the bite is slow, just jig enough to make the minnow flutter a bit, it looks like it is hurt and an easy meal to a crappie. Keep it up off bottom though, crappie tend to attack from below. BTW, I always hook my minnows by the head, usually through the eyes. That way, when you jig it looks like they are shooting up or down, quite a natural action.
  22. Oh sure, it figures, now that i don't need a fishing license, they make it easier to get.
  23. Thank you for the kind words. This is only my opinion based on my experience, if you asked 10 small engine mechanics the same question you'd likely get 10 different answers LOL. I can say that at least 80% of the repairs that I see are fuel related and most of those could have been avoided by using fuel stabilazer. One of the most common ones are generators. They often sit there for long periods of time with full tanks of fuel so that when you need them you have it ready to go. Even though I use stabilizer, I drain mine every year and put fresh fuel in it and then run it for about 1/2 an hour. I also start it every three months and just let it run for a bit to keep the battery fully charged.
  24. Not always, some engins are desigined to run on regular gas, running high test can cause them to run hotter and that isn't always good especially on a 2 stroke. Your best bet is to read and follow the manufactures reccomended specifications. Since 2 stroke engines rely on the oil in the gas for lubrication, if you run it too hot or lean, it could cause premature engine failure. I use fuel stabilizer in EVERY tank of gas (other than my car) it is cheap insurance.
  25. Should have been here this morning BTW, I know your wife and she is one of the keepers!
