LOL no, it'll have to be next weekend (if the bite is still on), I have too much to do around here this weekend. Raining like crazy right now so I'll be working in the shop for the morning I guess.
-
Well, the fish sure aren't hitting here, I spent two hours out there tonight and didn't catch a single crappie! Not one! Ernie, From your text I understand you didn't catch a single crappie either! What the heck is going on with Sturgeon lake?
-
Chris, come over here one day and we'll take the guns out, I can promise you that as long as you can keep your cool and pick your shots, you'll put a deer on the ground every time. I have also never missed dropping one with my cross bow and I only get one shot!

I would have fired any one of them in a heart beat! I ran a business for over 20 years, I have seen so many wsib type claims, "oh I slipped on some water on the floor and hurt my back", "I tried to pick up this box and my knee just gave out". There were a few others over the years and all proved in the long run to be bogus. A guy tested positive for drugs, he was operating a piece of heavy equipment, I don't care if he did just come back from holidays! FIRED! Second guy had an un disclosed medical problem that could affect his ability to do his job. FIRED! Third guy claims he is injured but is observed doing something physically demanding on his time off, FIRED! There are so many bogus claims these days I don't blame WSIB or the employers for being suspicious.

Been shooting an 870 express magnum for 20+ years, what ever choke happened to be in it at the time. In those 20 years I have NEVER missed a single deer I shot at using slugs or 00 buck and I've often shot more than one deer at a sitting. You'll be fine! Just take a couple of shots with what ever you want to use so you are use to the gun then quit worrying. Take your time, go for the heart shot, and you'll drop that deer every time.

Water Temperature was up to 57-58° which is normally when I have found the crappie most active but that didn't seem to be true for yesterday. Water level is down a good 12-18" below normal, I'm not sure if that is having an effect or not. I tried a couple of my favorite spots and only managed three small crappie, about 8 small perch, a sunfish, rock bass and one decent SM. OH well, I am thinking of heading down to Streetsville Saturday and see if I can improve my luck there, from what I have been hearing there are some decent fish being caught right from shore. Figures eh?

Thanks Art, I'll see if I can get a photo of it this evening. It is in a shower stall and I looked for a name or model number but couldn't see one. Thanks Mike. As far as re grinding the seat, that might also be an option, I'd rather replace it if we can.
-
That does it, I'm coming down to your place this weekend, I can't seem to find any decent numbers of crappie up here. Nice catch!
-
I don't think it is the header, I do believe it is the seat that is the problem! I'm just not sure that we can just replace the seat. If not, it means replacing the whole valve assy. which means a hole in the wall! You are a friend! It's a given!

warm winter and early spring thoughts
Big Cliff replied to rmarentette's topic in General Discussion
OK, How is this for scientific information. I'm 66, In the last 40 years I have seen huge changes. I can remember having to break ice to go duck hunting in Sept. Not once but most of the time. Heck, I can remember walking out to my duck blind on the ice and the only open water was just beyond the blind. I can remember snow banks so high that you threw the snow toward the top and hoped some of it didn't come back down. I can remember snow banks so high that when you walked on top of them the hydro wires were even with your waist. I can remember never planting anything before the May 24 weekend (even then that was pushing it) I can remember having to battle ice just to get our boat in the river on the May 24 weekend. I can remember the first diesle engine coming into our town, everyone was at the station to see it! Hell, I almost bought a Studibaker LOL. My first car was a 1948 Plymoth, thing was built like a tank, paid $200.00 LOL. Global warming is happening, I wouldn't be upset if I had coconut trees growing here someday (I'd like to see it in fact). The fishing will change, we will adapt, life is good! -
Congratulations on your new position! Enjoy your two week paid holiday (and extra holiday pay) and if you have any problems at all, just call the Ministry of Labour. NO employer wants to deal with those A Holes!

A friend has a leaking tap. We have changed the washer (black rubber thing) that seems to be the seal that should stop the water. Didn't work! I think is is the seat that is the problem and I seem to remember a long time ago using a tool like a hex key to remove and replace a seat. I'm just not sure and don't want to go causing more problems. Am I on the right track? Is the seat something that CTC would have? I have no idea of the brand or anything, all help would be appreciated. Next question: I have a friend looking at a pontoon boat, It's about 28' long, 8' wide, three pontoons (aluminum) A tandum trailer, (axles look quite heavy)and it has a 1996 Mariner (Maximum) (Magnum) (It's grey I have CRS LOL) Package seems to be old but in nice shape. I haven't done any testing on the motor yet but would before advising him to buy it. Just trying to get some idea of a fair price. The pontoons are all welded aluminum, they have to be worth something alone. Again, all help much appreciated!

I too ran my own business for many years and Simon is bang on the money. It is fairly standard practice to let an employee go once they have given notice depending on their position. Not all employees are honorable when they think they have nothing left to loose.

There were a few crusing around, one of the young lads did set up a line but didn't get any takers. I went through 3 bags of corn feeding them last year and no one ever showed up to fish for them. Puppy is coming along well for a 10 month old, I doubt she'll ever be into retreiving fish though, perhaps stealing them if she gets a chance LOL.

It all started Friday evening with Pikeslayer and his son-in-law coming up. Wiskeywizard was part of the plan and offered to provide Friday night's dinner. Man can that guy cook a steak!!!! They were the best steaks I have ever had! He left no stone un turned, salad, wine, brachettia (sp) it ws so good! Saturday morning we got up and went down to Mike's (Wiskeywizard's) place to help him launch his new boat. Wow, what a beautiful place! So, it didn't take too long with the 4 of us to get the boat in and all set up. We left Mike to do his thing and we came back here to put the last section of my dock in. The work done, it was time to go fishing so fishing we went. It was slow to say the least, the wind was brutil and we had problems anchoring and holding a position but we did manage a few small crappie. Enough for an appatizer for Saturday night's dinner at least. Simon had very kindly supplied Saturday's dinner. An excellent dinner choice BTW and by the time dinner was over there wasn't a hungry person in the place. With full stomaches it wasn't long before people started to fade toward their beds, lol the older we get the earlier that seems to happen! Sunday was supposed to be rained out according to the weather man, (only job I know of where you can be wrong 85% of the time and everyone still believes you). Anyway, we did a bit of work around here this morning (nothing too big) then headed out fishing. Again, the catching was slow but the fishing fantastic. We did manage a few smaller crappie and a few blue gills but that was about it. Anyway, a wonderful weekend with wonderful friends and we even got to do a bit of catching!

Ok, I have been getting out every chance I get looking for crappie (on a lake I can't mention). Well, it hasn't been very productive but I don't feel too bad, no one else seems to be catching them either but it has been entertaining. Last Saturday a local cottage owner walked down to the shore line and announced that some jerk had parked their van and boat trailer on a private road and blocked his driveway. He then announced that they had 10 minutes to move it or he would have it towed (I'd have just had it towed) but he is Canadian, I'm just old. There wase some grumbling from a boat but I couldn't understand what they were saying, it wasn't in English. Then it turned out that one of them had had a dump right beside his propane tanks, (how nice can you be to a guy who's drive way you have just blocked)? Oh wait, there is more: A boat was observed keeping OOS bass, they were advised and they just laughed, the CO was called who showed up! Unfortunatly they saw him coming and dumped the bass (no law against releasing OOS fish). Why do people have to be this way then complain that we discrimnate?

I tried retirement again for about the XXXX time and I just can't do it. Retirement is for old (or rich people). Well, the old part I might be getting close to LOL. Anyway I happened to stumble across a job posting for a Purchasing Agent for a company located just 7 minutes down the road from my house. Well, I decided to submit my resume not really expecting to hear from them but what the heck. They needed someone with a background in electronics, purchasing, and inventory control and I had all of those. Well, three interviews later and they offered me the job and guess who the new purchasing agent is for Carma Industries Inc. is? Now, I have already got some quotes on some parts I need from OFC members (and I'll be working on those in the next few days) but I am going to be looking for some contacts in the electronic component supply business, circuit board manufacturing, and a variety of other related businesses. Yes, we do have suppliers for everything we need but I will be giving first choice to OFC members. Quality, dependibility, and price in that order. If you feel that we might be able to do business then please email me ([email protected]) I will do my best to help you as long as you are doing your best to help us! If I don't get back to you in a day or two, please don't panic, I have a huge task in front of me! BTW, anyone on here really good with FoxPro? Cliff Oh, and I promise, this is the last time I'll retire!

I am looking for some steel plates, 8.25" X 8.25" 14 gauge, need (4) 1/4" holes drilled in them, they can be galvanized or painted/powder coated. Annual usage in the neighbourhood of 1000 pieces. If you are interested please email me [email protected]

And that is exactly why we might as well just bend over. We have over 7000 members on this site and about 7 of them might be willing to give it a try. Pathetic!
-
Boycott them until the price hits .99/L, not just for one day

Well, I might be wrong (what the heck, I often am) but I was under the impression the modifying a life jacket in any way (including marking your name or anything else on it, even with a magic marker) made the life jacket illegal to use, it was "altered"! So does this rule not apply to fire departments?
-
Thanks! I think I might just give him a call! The older I get the more important comfort seems to be LOL.
