Beans, ask them if you can get permission to clean up any wind falls for fire wood. I know when we lived up in French River we weren't allowd to cut trees on crown land but we could get permission to clean up wind falls. (There might have been the odd time we helped the wind a little when no one was looking if you get what I mean) I'm sure me and a couple of boys with chain saws could clean up anything that was "already down or leaning badly" and haul it over to your wood pile.

Whats the best way to slow my boat down for trolling?
Big Cliff replied to coreyhkh's topic in General Discussion
Well, I haven't had a heart attack in over 60 years but that doesn't mean it won't happen tomorrow. Towing a dingy behind you would slow you would slow you down enough to troll for walleye But what are you going to use to get the dingy back to shore? Oh, wait, a kicker motor! Why not just leave the dingy at home and take the kicker motor -
So, I wonder how much antifreeze we would have to put in the bottle and if that would have any effect on it. Might be a good way to add a light to an ice hut! Might be a good way to add lights to my boat house too.

Saw a thing on internet the other day where they are using 2L bottles of water with a bit of chlorine in it and using them as a light. Apparently generates 55W. They put them in the roof of a building and the sun hits the bottle and I'm not sure how it works or why the chlorine but I saw the results. Was very impressive! Science is so amazing!

That is so true! I know there is a good population of them in this lake and I sure know how to find them in the spring but summer and winter they have eluded me and I have tried everything I can think of. Since they seem to be a very popular target it would be nice to try to figure them out. I have fished a lake up North where they were off a deep point in the middle of winter, I have fished them on Scugog where you had to fish shallow weeds and mostly in the evening, on Pigeon and Simco where you fished from shore in shallow back bays early morning, on Jack Lake where they were suspended over 28' of water and they were 12' down and would only hit a pinhead swimming free under a split shot. Here on Sturgeon where the only time I got good action was when the water was 58-62. I can't seem to find a common pattern anywhere. Walleye are easier to pattern!

OK, so why is that? I am interested in knowing!

OK, but what is it costing me /liter for my water? I have a well with an iron sulpher remover, a UV system to make sure there is no bacteria in the water and a 5 stage RO system to make sure that my water is absolutly pure. I guess you'd have to factor in the cost to maintain the well and pump, the hydro to pump and purify the water, the amount of water wasted by the RO system, the hydro to run the RO system and time, the cost to maintain the septic system because of the extra volume of water produced by the RO system. Now, that doesn't include the health costs associated with drinking chloraneted water, the dental costs because of the lack of floridation in my water. Far too complicated for this old brain to figure out! I think I'll just carry on knowing that I don't have any chemicals added to my water and it is as pure as I can get it.

I haven't used them but I see no reason why they wouldn't work! I don't use live bait because you'd spend too much time rebaiting. The plastics seem to last a lot longer = more casts to the fish.

Well, about the only help I can offer for spring crappie is: shallow bays, with mud bottoms, very close to shore, water temp. 58 - 62°F. a float with about 12-18" of line and use small finS minnows or grubs.

Very nice, I still haven't been able to find them here on Sturgeon Lake through the ice but soft water cometh!!!

Well, I don't know about you, but I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous

Is Lakair even going to happen this year? I've heard stories about it being up for sale; they weren't going to run it anymore; it was being closed down. Can anyone confirm or dispell these rumors?

Big Cliff replied to Bing's topic in General Discussion
Fished Quinte for many years May 24 weekend. We use to fish by marker 46 off Big Island and always did well. -
Lots of firewood for next winter Norm Gust (yes, I spelled that way on purpous) as a side note, the cottage that used to be across the lake from us in now our new bunkie!

Whats the best way to slow my boat down for trolling?
Big Cliff replied to coreyhkh's topic in General Discussion
I guess I could put a kicker motor on my boat but I don't do a lot of trolling I really enjoy drift fishing but until I got this drift sock from Beagledad last year I had always had a hard time controling my speed. days when the wind was 25K+ seeemed to be the best fishing days but I was always moving too fast. Last year Shane loaned me a drift sock to try, what a difference, I can get out there and fish when the lake is rough but still drift slow enough to pound the walleye. Made a huge difference for me in the number of walleye I can put in the boat and now I actually prefer to get out there when there is a good wind blowing where before I'd be moving too fast to catch anything but those stupid muskie. Fun to catch but not on 6 lb test line with no leader in 25k winds. -
Actually Skipper might be on the right track (well sort of). Paul, I am sort of like you (only older) and I really try to be careful about things like falling too. Perhaps a pole attached to your trailer tounge just in front of the winch and extending up to where you could easily reach it for support would help. A couple of step plates welded to the winch stand on the left side as you are facing the bow from the truck and you could easily step down off the front of your boat. The pole doesn't have to be left on all the time, just prior to launching and after you put the boat on the trailer, just disconnect and store it.

Now that was priceless! Good job my friend!

Whats the best way to slow my boat down for trolling?

I'll have to try that this summer, I had a hard time stearing last year as I had it trailing out behind the boat off a side cleat. (first time using one) but it did really help to slow me down even when drift fishing. -
A wonderful intro, super pictures, and a fantastic looking family! Welcome to our little community!

Well, I had planned to go fishing today but I'm re thinking that one. I'm just going to stay here and work in the shop. Got a bunch of fishing related stuff to do anyway. -
CPH and I were out on Simco last year looking for perch and we hit into a school of them, it was nuts, you couldn't get your line down through them to get at the perch. We finally gave up and moved. I would love to see the season opened up on them again even if the limit was only a couple of fish. I've had them smoked before and they were delicious!

I have sold a few things on Kijiji, even had one person offer to pay me more after I told them it was already sold. Couldn't do that though, I held it for the original purchaser. I have also had people call me up and tell me they were on their way then didn't show up. Some have tried to super lo-ball me but for the most part my experiences have been very good. Every spring I have a "garage sale" on Kijiji and get rid of a bunch of stuff that I have collected over the previous year. Works well for me and I prefer it to Ebay.

Got a feeling this is going to be the earliest spring
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
I don't think the Scugog river ever did freeze over this year. Most winters you could drive a sled right up the river into Lindsay at some point. Where did you have your boat in Sinker?
