I like counters on everything. Rigger, reel etc. That way if I was catching fish 42 down and 85 feet off the ball I can get back to that instantly without counting passes or watching a screen. I wouldn't own a rigger without a line counter but everyone's different.

Grandpa and his buddies let me shoot a couple mergs when I first started hunting. Then he made me clean them and cook them. Then I got to eat. The big commons where the worst... Well, lesson learned I guess! I did run in to some guys on cooks bay a few times at least 15 years ago that shot all they could and said they loved em! They where from the Rock and I guess they liked the strong flavour.

I agree Dan, but it's a start I suppose. They are also proposing to amend the FWCA to allow cormorants to spoil so that will remove the table fare concern and put them squarely in the nuisance category. They've also change the initial bag limit of 10 to 50 it seems. Too little to late if you ask me.

If fishing was crappy I'd probably spend the money. Fact is last season was incredible both on Lake O and Erie. This season was so good on Erie that I only ended up on Lake O a couple times in the spring and then near the end of the season for staging fish. I know lots of guys had to grind this year mid summer on Ontario but when I finally showed up late August the fishing was pretty targeted and quite good for both 2 year olds and stagers. No doubt I'll find the 1000 bucks when I find the fishing really slows down.

The fishery is fantastic. It's harder to get keepers over 18.1 but even that has improved. I fish it a few times every summer and numbers are gery good. Perch fishing is pretty darn good too and even though we don't specifically target them we always turn up a few nice pike each trip. Truth. When I started downrigging for salmon, (not quite that long ago Dave) we would drop a cannonball down 40-50 over 100 and catch fish never wavering much from that, and sometimes higher in the column. Now its routine to be down 120 over 200 on Lake O during the day. I can often see lures down 30. Erie is a lot of fun because while walleye will definitely run deep and hug bottom in a lot of fisheries including Erie but a lot of the time they suspend 20-25-30 down, and that's where lead, jets and dipsys thrive. I still run my riggers on Erie pretty regularly, but there are times when the fish are 20/25 feet below the boat and the bite is way more consistent out the sides rather than off riggers. I think I prefer it that way, because it's made trolling interesting and more technical than it ever was when your running 6-8 rod spreads with a bunch of different presentations.

Yeah I have no problem trusting my GPS. I have 3 of them on he boat. 2 in my sonars and one in my terrova. None of them are ever off of each other by more than 0.1mph. If you want you can spend $1000 on a fishawk and clip a probe to your rigger and it will give you your downspeed. Lots of guys swear by them but they are spendy.

You can buy 2 part rod epoxy at most tackle shops that carry rod building supplies. In the GTA that would be angling specialties. If your in the Guelph/KW area the. Kingsway tackle should have it. I've done it many times and I just paint it over top of the blemish. Works good if you have the patience to rewrap a broken guide as well. I always have some around. If you don't get the mix right, it will stay tacky for a long time though.

Most marinas carry adapters for about $8. I bought one for my oil pump. My kicker also has a much smaller port than the big motor. Only made sense.

I have a striker guardian. Very warm and I really like it. I bought it out of a shop in Hamilton. Way better than my old one piece.

My boat sits outside all winter. I empty all compartments and if they are dry I close them and that's that. If I am going to uncover and fish the Niagara mid winter I throw my gear in a milk crate and a couple of life jackets in the boat. All safety gear other than life jackets stays on board.

Good point. Nothing makes me happier than 4 guys in the boat juggling an 8 rod spread. Especially if rods are popping. Fire drill!!

Spelling is an entirely separate matter from the issue at hand. Bass will eat beer cans with hooks attached and walleye are harder to catch:)

They work well and I use the green ones for splitshot in my steelhead bag, but they aren't near as durable as the clam boxes. Now that you brought this up I'll have to grab a couple spares as they are the best terminal tackle box I've ever used and that means they'll stop making them eventually.

As soon as it gets closer to winter sail will probably have them. They're excellent hook/terminal tackle boxes as well!

Not nessecarilly. Sure, I couldn't afford to buy our family cottage. It was bought on prime land not to far from the GTA 40 plus years ago. It's worth a lot now. I've looked around, there are still affordable places if you are willing to travel a bit more or buy a water access or don't mind being on a river accessing a lake etc. But there are definately some cash barriers for premium property's or popular locations, especially for someone paying a millions bucks for their principle residence as well.
