?? I don’t know what it is man. Just saying it’s probably not a splake. Happy Saturday!

Holy Necro post. Anyway, could you catch an adventurous brookie in Georgian Bay? Of course you could. Many of the streams feeding tributaries of Georgian Bay are littered with brookies. The bay is also littered with lakers. A splake? I haven’t caught one up there since probably 2001. Back in the 90’s you’d catch them pretty regularly to the point it was sometimes a nuisance In the fall because the float would drop and you’d be hoping for a bow and it would be a splake. So I doubt this very old post is a pic of a splake. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Yeah I never experienced anything like that Dan, and at a similar time frame. Nothing but a lot of good times. Sorry to hear it!

Holy uckfay Dan, you where a Wildwood fella too huh. SLOW DOWN lol. Had a lot of fun in that park in my late teens and 20’s. Caught a crapload of bass, channel cats and crappie in the bay and shot a boatload if ducks in the fall! Good times and good memories!

I have installed 2 ipilot kits on terrovas. It is dead simple!

Once you get to a certain age you tend to do stupid things in groups greater than one. When we travel possibly suspect ice, its in a group, with throw lines, spuds and floatation gear. The average age is 50, but we could still help a brother out. There will come a time that I no longer do these things.

Plenty of good ice, even on whitefish water, and yeah I’ve been. If you don’t know don’t go. It’s not the best ice year but there’s fishable ice. Every section of the lake will make ice in varying degrees. Some will be downright unsafe. In other areas you can run a sled or wheeler. But yeah, if this is your first rodeo, go with an operator and fish for perch!

The striker is an amazing suit. This will be season 4 for me and I use it on the ice and in the boat spring and fall! And I have the low end one.

You’ll like the quick flip one. Everything I’ve owned by Eskimo has been top notch, and the one thing I had that was a lemon they replaced quickly!

Public health agencies and CDC etc have extrapolated many many more unconfirmed cases or very mild cases that don’t test. Therefore true mortality is unknown at this point but is possibly lower. How much lower remains to be seen. I don’t know where the 98.5 percentage comes from but if you ask many medical professionals, my brother in law (ER Doctor) included, they anticipate many cases go undetected. If you’ve noted the death rates continues to drop worldwide, with some locales having higher rates, but at the beginning the death rate was showing anywhere from 5 to 7.5 percent in some countries and has dropped considerably.

They probably are even at the cabinet level. They certainly are privately. A lot of people feel the same way that politician does, including just about everyone I know, friends, neighbours a lot of colleagues etc. Not much airplay is being given to anything other than the lockdown theory. It’s clear by the roads alone that there is not a lot of buyin, but hey what do I know.

Used to get them off the canals on shrewsbury side in the spring 25 years ago. I never ice fished for them though?

That’s a good one. I had the original green quick flip 1. It was very lightweight!

I have a frabil recon. It’s pretty light if you pull the seat out and just take a small folding stool or chair. All depends how comfortable you want to be. My back is shot from an old injury. I can hoist it into the truck no problem, but I have to take a decent chair. Bad back and bucket don’t go well together so any way you look at it I’m pulling the weight of something comfortable to sit in.

They work fine. I have used one for 3 seasons. I did make one out of a wire grate midway through last winter that is a lot sturdier and moved on to that, but the roller grill works fine, you won’t see any fumes off of it. I did leave in on the heater for 45 minutes or so in the driveway when I first made it, but I didn’t stick around to watch for off-gassing. No issues ever since.

No. Not yet.

I seldom fish from the front of my boat. The only time I’ve used a foot pedal in the last five years is when the batteries die in the remote and I’ve forgotten to buy a new spare.

Yes, very easy on the ice or in your boat. While being lost in fog or out in a storm and unable to landmark is a very good reason to have GPS mapping on the boat or the ice, and having done all of it is one major reason I have mapping, it’s not the only reason. I mark rock piles, entire weed edges, productive sand flats and other spots that I’ve been successful on. It allows me to go out and do a milk run of all my best spots and find fish. If you are into the precision trolling game, you can also marks schools the minute your on them and make multiple passes. In big water pickeral fishing I have many times marked schools on side imaging, dropped a GPS point on them, spun around and made multiple passes catching multiple fish. Combined with a GPS trolling motor its literally changed the way I fish. No more lining up 2 trees on shore and hoping you hit the right spot!

Still looking bump. Just Winchester 1200/1300 though please. -
What type of drill would I need for a ice auger?

Just use that one, if it’s a ridgid it’ll do fine on a 6 inch auger I’m sure. -

You may do alright for a while with a 6 inch auger. Not sure how the dewalt compare to Milwaukee but I ran a 6 inch for 2 seasons on a Milwaukee compact and it worked just fine. I do know that I have heard of a lot of dewalt compacts packing it in when used on an auger. I’m a Milwaukee guy, I have a bunch of M18 and M12 stuff around the house, and always had good results. When I saw a deal on the m18 fuel combo I snapped it up. No regrets it’s an amazing drill on the ice and I use the drill and impact driver all year long! I’m sure the beefier dewalt will work also. -
I’m no tech genius and they are easy enough for me to use. I wouldn’t be without GPS in the boat.

I have a simple GPS/sonar model. While I like side and down imaging on my big boat, for ice fishing it’s useless and I can live without it on my tin boat. To me the GPS is priceless when in any kind of boat, and as I use the unit on the ice and in my tinner also, I bought a navionics combo. If you where really not interested in GPS then I’d just by the standard sonar. Down imaging is a sometimes useful setting that I can often live without. the cost of side imaging units is high and they always have GPS. I like the side imaging on my Starcraft but again I could live without it and I think a 7 inch screen is the minimum useful size with side imaging.

If you need any more help deciding on a helix 5, let me add to the reviews. I’ve used the gen 1 and now 2 on the ice. Excellent units. I can’t find a single bad thing to say!
