    I would Un share it. A number of the small unknown launches I frequent are still open. I’ll be darned if I’m going to post all these spots for people to flock to. Mums the word in all instances. But, I absolutely applaud Chatham- Kent for their stance. If every dummy and his brother can flock to his nature trail while he’s on mandated holiday, why can’t I go fishing alone in my boat on my days off.

    You didn’t ask me, but I’ve used both minn kota and motorguide GPS units over the past 6 seasons. If I had to settle on 1 I’d buy a minn kota terrova. I like the look of the auto deploy units and I’m sure it’d be great but I don’t want to deal with the potential of failure. The motorguide was ok but I prefer the terrova all things being equal. The one thing I will say is if my motor crapped out tomorrow I’d buy another one immediately. That’s how important it’s become to my fishing. Just my 2 cents.

    It’s awesome for checking the bottom structure. We used them all winter to see if we where sitting on rock and to see if it was holding gobies. Worked great!!

    By tonight that auger machine would Probably get you across the lake. There was only 4-6 inches of slushy snow cover left on Simcoe as of yesterday evening, on the east side anyway. It won’t last long now. The argument between gas and electric in my mind is moot. If you live in a very northern community and require massive extensions then sure, an electric auger is really not for you. I’d say anywhere from North Bay on down, Your probably good to go with electric. I have both a clam mounted Milwaukee and a gas auger. That gas auger hasn’t seen daylight for probably 4-5 years now. As for costs, I had a drill, my 6 inch auger cost me $50 and the 8 inch was free cause a buddy gave it to me and the clam plate cost me $100. You don’t need to buy a k drill or E drill to make this work, although I’ve hefted them and they’re super light and very cool. The big hammer drill is necessary in my opinion though and will be your biggest expense if your starting from scratch. Worth every penny though I’ve used it to remodel my kitchen and do countless tasks around the house so I count that stuff under the household budget! If you do buy a Milwaukee drill, and your a little bit handy be warned, you’ll probably like it so much that you’ll end up with a whole bunch of other Milwaukee tools.

    Same scenario, I’ve never owned one but a neighbour on the lake our family cottage is at owns one and has tracks for the winter. I’ve had a few rides across the lake in winter but never been on a trail with one. It goes pretty good with tracks. I can only imagine it would be a bit jarring over rough terrain. I did know a guy who owned an older model although I never rode in his I do know he was always repairing something before moose season. He was a pretty handy guy so it wasn’t an issue for him. I sure wouldn’t mind a tracked argo for the winter but they are fairly cumbersome units.

    As long as you’ve got a backup I wouldn’t by shy to hunt around the main lake between lakeshore and the channel into Callander as mentioned in 22-25 and If your not doing anything then bang up agains the islands near shore and see if their in tight should be about 14-15 fow this time of year. I wouldn’t camp for long without some fish on the sonar though. Good luck!

    Lakeshore suites in town has kitchenettes and the first one you pass has (there are 2) a little cottage at the end in summer they have great parking for trucks and trailers and the place is always clean. You can access the lake from the end of premier road, and if that is blocked off you can head north along memorial drive and there are a couple of beachfronts and at least one crappy boat launch that could likely be used if you want to fish the main lake. In Callandar there is as mentioned a boat launch on your right as you come into town and it has a big lot. If you didn’t book with Lakeshore suites I recommend you take a look at them. The prices are decent but their setup is quite ideal for fishermen. We stay there when we’re only in town for a couple of days. Good luck and I’d recommend bombing around in 22-25 fow on the main lake if you get a chance and are taking more than one machine. North Bay outfitters by the McDonald’s in town has bait I believe but may not open that early. Nice shop though and bigger selection than Billy Bobs.

    I’ve liked watching the show. I’ve always enjoyed uncut angling, enjoys the Castellano fella and Taro Muratta has grown on me. Conrad brothers are typical Canadian westerners and entertaining to watch. I have tried hard with the 2 yanks, gone as far as trying to watch their channels outside of this 39 hours and I just can’t do it. Particularly the Eric guy his constant yelling of “let’s go” and fist bumping of whoever is near him turns me right off. The Alex kid, he’s not bad just not much personality and I don’t find him very entertaining. I’m sure he’s doing just fine though, so good for him! Anyhow I’m rooting for the Canadians, any of them!

    Yeah don’t be doing that. I’ve been out on Simcoe a bit this winter and the ice is sporadic and varying. It’s just recently become pretty good for machine travel I sure wouldn’t take my truck out.
