  1. Great job-I applaude you for your ambition to plan and carry out the work and your patience for it to grow in Personally I look forward to the summer months when the grass drys up and doesn't need cutting so often..
  2. Good job by the CO and OPP. I only wish these guys had been hit harder.
  3. I do remember seeing something similar however it was in the afternoon when I was a kid likely about 9-10 years old. I was in downtown Toronto playing in our schoolyard and a streak like that flew over the skyline. The way it looked, we thought it landed around Centre Island. Being a paperboy for the Telegram at the time I looked for a report and read the next day about the occurance and it said the metorite that was visible in Toronto had landed in Southern Michigan.
  4. A great perspective and something we should all keep in mind for ourselves.
  5. No finer looking fish than Specs on the ice-well done! And I agree with Dabluz on the colour difference.
  6. Born in T.O. finished High School in East York and went off to Kingston for a few years. Left there to make sure Tweed was suitable for Elvis to live in. After that I found Trenton to my liking and have been here since '77.
  7. While crossing the southern bridge in Trenton yesterday late afternoon I saw a boat fishing the mouth of the river-no sign of ice;I didn't go by the ramps so I don't know what kind of shape they're in.
  8. Beauty fish-hitting the water in that kind of weather you deserved to be rewarded-congrats.
  9. thanks; now I know why I gave up trying to flyfish-I was doing all my calculations in Imperial measure and didn't do a proper conversion to Metric....
  10. looks like an amazing day-great report; I had planned on hitting the tribs today but couldn't get away from work -all day I thought about what great weather to be out there and now I see your report and boy am I envious; even had I been able to get out I'd never dream of having the day you did
  11. Congrats on the cover photo and article. I always look forward to your reports and you never disappoint, thanks for the great read. So sorry for your family's loss.
  12. Welcome aboard-as you can see I'm quite new here too. I've been fishing Quinte for awhile and it seems every walleye opener either myself or my buddy who's been fishing with me for 25 years have the same conversation when we catch our first sheephead of the year. "Ever eat one of those?" "Nope." "So and So down at the legion say they're good to eat and very tasty." "One of us should keep one and try it." "Yea we'll have to do that-not this one though-too big(small could replace big,so could shiny,dull,pretty,ugly,etc-I suspect you get the picture...lol)." Anyway,we've never tried them;how about you let us know if the guys at the legion are being truthful and then my buddy and I can have a different conversation.
  13. It’s late but I’ve finally gotten around to writing my report. A group of us have been going on a spring fishing trip to the Shining Tree area for a number of years. Our usual departure time has been the week starting on May 24 weekend. However we had a couple of years where it snowed the first few days we were in camp and as a group we decided to look at a different time to go. After discussing our thoughts with Derek; our host at http://www.duenorth.net/shiningtreecamp/, we chose Sept 20-27 to go fishing. Typically we’re used to catching walleye, pike, bass, splake, specks and lake trout and except for the specks all were co-operative in Sept. as well. One thing that really piqued my interest in a Sept trip was the possibility of someone getting an Aurora Trout. It’s something that’s not an option in May as the season opens in August and closes in October. By Thursday we’d caught numerous fish and I talked the guys into taking a walk into an Aurora lake. We found the lake easily and did try a few casts from shore, no hits but my interest was even higher in trying to catch one of these fish. One of our crew agreed to go with me early Friday morning to give them a solid shot, and armed with oars for the small aluminum off we headed. Our lines hit the water about 8:00. My friend using a small spinner, me a firetiger Little Cleo. I rowed slowely and as quiet as I could be while we trolled our hardware well behind the boat following the shoreline. About 20 minutes after we started I had a hit-FISH ON!!!!! It was a great fight-seemed to last forever as I was afraid my one shot at an Aurora might be lost with a thrown hook or broken line. Thankfully I landed the fish –a nice 19” female. My fishing was done on this lake as the limit is one and there is no catch and release. Until noon I rowed around that small lake trying to get my buddy a fish as well but he never had a hit. Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures from our trip as I forgot my camera-however I did borrow one before going for the Aurora Trout and have a picture of it. I use it as my desktop background and think about that day whenever I see it
  14. I will be posting a report (hopefully later today) on my Aurora Trout outing from late in Sept. I stayed at Shining Tree Camp inexpensive and great hosts. A few of the lakes that have Auroras are very close to them.
  15. Great report! Those skinny trout sure look odd. Awsome part of the continent-I hope to get there one day. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Yes they did the right thing. This cat obviously had no fear of people as it was "resting" in an urban area. Had they not shot the cat and somebody was injured or killed these same officials would have to put up with the wrath of the citizens while also living with guilt of playing a part in allowing this animal the chance to harm someone. Unfortunate for the cougar but I believe the 50% against the shooting would sing a different tune if someone got hurt.
  17. Good to see the CO's out and causing these kind of people some financial pain; my first thought was a longer suspension of his licence would have been nice but from the sounds of what he was doing he'd likely fish without a licence anyway.
  18. Hi All; After "lurking" for a long time I've finally registered to be a member of this fine community. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with good fishing opportunites (Quinte) however my most anticipated fishing time is a yearly week long trip to Northern Ontario with good friends-just accross the bay from where "Terry" goes in Shining Tree. Catching fish is not as important as it once was; enjoying the pursuit and all aspects of it are now much more important. My lurking in the past has been to enjoy the successes of other members through their stories and pictures; who among us doesn't enjoy the exploits of Moosebunk,Solopaddler and many others. Soon I expect I'll have my own first report up, not as spectacular as others but hopefully enjoyable. My goal will be to give back to the present and future members some of the same interest and enjoyment that you have given me.
