  1. One phrase. MNR and Crown rights
  2. Picking up the shirt at the event sounds good.
  3. I like this one better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc2xfWooktg
  4. Until relocating 2 years ago, our home of 20 years relied on wood heat. I could not find an economical hydro alternative for our location that was also legal.
  5. Finakky got to ice fish down here in Niagara yesterday. Albeit, I was punching a hole through 1/2" of ice from a shore ledge
  6. Warm winters like this happen. In the early 80's we had a few wimp winters. No snow til February, very little safe ice, 1/2 the HCSA trails were closed. A Minden dogsled derby, or 2, that trucked snow in from Quebec. 65F on XMas 83 in the Sault,..... I also remember freak snowstorms in May. Most recent was 2 years back in Orillia. Extremes happen, what is different is the severity and extended time frames.
  7. Cheapest Canpost parcel rate is $8.40
  8. Once the others here get wind of that it will be gone in 2 hours
  9. I wish you all the best success in your fight.
  10. Started a thread last week with minimal response. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60206&st=0&p=663121&hl=OFC%20Tourny&fromsearch=1entry663121
  11. Dip them in a little clarified garlic butter, and a slice of good crumbly bread and you got it made.
  12. Having done a lot of fishing the past week, the body's a little tired. The larder is also looking a little bare. So took some time to do some very necessary bread making. The oatmeal loaves will be great with a thick bowl of soup or stew. Livin is good.
  13. A black or blue 2x for me. Need price, and where to send $$$
  14. There'a a distinct difference tween sowing seed and sowing wild oats
  15. We had a couple of years like this some 20 years back, with only 4 weeks of an actual winter. Animals coming out of hibernation before time and before food was available. I was sowing seeds in February with results in early March.
  16. Looks like Saturday was the day. Well done.
  17. Regular moderate activity is a big plus. Cold and damp can make life plain miserable. I've had mild arthritis in the hands for decades, and in the hips due to my spinal disorder. Nothing I have not been able to manage thus far.
  18. Socks are a big part of the footwear equation. So much so that the military developed a "combat sock system". All jokes aside, when you have manpower living in their boots 24/7, it was necessary to come up with footcare practices to prevent blisters, skin ulcers, athletes foot, trenchfoot, etc.... They have a three layer sock issue. Works pretty good for most. I could not wear the inner liners as they would disintegrate in one day. Worst socks to ever wear are cotton gym socks. Spend the money on good boots ""and"" socks. Don't cheap out.
  19. I know a couple of guys who run to the west end of Erie for whities every spring.
  20. Solitude is , more than anything else, a state of mind. Some of us need to cut ourselves off entirely from the civil world to achieve that state of peace. It can be exhilarating, I must admit. Like going out for that dawn paddle/row knowing you only share the lake with the loon. Not disturbing the serenity with the sputter and whine of an outboard motor. I may not always be able to find places in Niagara without that background noise of civilization, but I do find isolated niches where I am the only soul around. Free to focus my thoughts or empty my mind and drink in my surroundings.
  21. As long as you got out and had a good time, nothing else matters.
  22. To some of you, this may sound strange. have you ever been hiking in a pair of combat boots. My CF boots were excellent hiking boots back in the 70's and 80's and lasted through 10 years of abuse.
