I would start your seed indoors now for best results, then transplant out at 2nd or 3rd leaf (appx 5") As for thyme and rosemary, real slow growers. I would have started seed indoors last fall, you might want to consider buying starter plants. They also don't care for hard, cold winters. Our annual herb plants for market (May 24) are already 1-2" out of soil. First of the tomato plants at 5". All in greenhouse. If insisting on outdoor seeding, look up the appx last date for frost in your area, and plant after that.

I have caught a number of Rudd in the niagara and Welland rivers the past couple of years. Nothing spectacular, 8-10", all quickly despatched in due diligence. Today's specimen is a clear indication that the species is here to stay in the Great lakes. She weighed in at 2.71lbs.

The smelt and shiners are running together at the moment. many of the smelt I cleaned had fresh shiner down the throat.

Yep, smelt was on the menu here as well. Casey had his feed, and a few left over for a snack tomorrow. That might just be a plan.

Finally got out for some smelt. It really stunk not beeing able to jig the smelt on ice this year. I more than made up for it last night. . We averaged 20-50 smelt with each dip of the net. Not huge numbers, but enough to fill the big roast pan twice. I just finished cleaning them all. Now to clean up the disaster in the kitchen.

That's one of the surprises inherent in fishing. You target one species and wind up catching another. Fish only know they are hungry and the bait looks good.
