  1. You did the very difficult but right thing for Jesse. What a great looking dog. I have a yellow lab that will be 10 in March, he has been a great dog and just follows me everywhere. I retired him from duck hunting this year because it was just to painful to watch him limp around for the next few days after a hunt. This morning after our walk he was limping on his back left leg, usually goes away after a day or two. Hope that I will be as strong as you when it's "Trout's" time to go.
  2. Great lucking buck, congrats. With both you and your dad taking your PB's on the same hunt, that will be a day neither of you will ever forget.
  3. cp what this means, is that if you applied for the late season controlled hunt in your WMU and were successful, you can hunt with the approved weapons, ie shotgun, or muzzleloader, or archery. You can not bow hunt in a WMU that has a controlled hunt this week unless you hold a controlled tag. Hope this helps clarify things.
  4. Wow I've never been to that place, without having the feeling that I have been violated as I pay. Would be a new feeling for sure.
  5. Samsquatches are hard to shoot because they have trained the 'Southern Ontario Cougar' to protect them and cover their tracks. I have also heard that the MNR releases 1 SAMsquatch with each pair of cougars it releases. This is all done to control the feral closet hippo problem.
  6. Congrats on the fine buck. I love those chocolate racks.
  7. Congrats on your 1st deer. You will never forget that one.
  8. Wow Rickster those are beautiful animals. i especially love those chocolate racks. good luck to all going out5 next week and be safe. Weather forecast looks way to warm for ideal dear movement, but atleast we won't be cold in the stand.
  9. Couldn't agree with Bigulgi's comments anymore, well put. We have an 80 year old in our hunting group. When he was young he was one of the hardest working hunters in the group. He has now come to realize that isn't possible and also dangerous for him. He now gets the stand closest to the road, stays home if too cold or wet out and yet still feels like he's part of the hunting group. It would be ideal if someone in the hunting group could mentor or guide him this way, but as is often the case the older we get the more hard headed and stubborn we get. If you really feel it is unsafe for him to hold and fire a firearm then maybe the camera or video angle might work. You could encourage him to go out with others in the group and get their hunts on camera. Good luck with Dad.
  10. Great report and pictures. Sounds like you have a great group to hunt/share stories with, which to me is more important than any trophy. Congrats to Nicholas and to his dad and the group for passing on the hunting heritage. Already having trouble waiting for the weekend to get together with my hunting group, you just made it alot worse. I guess I can just look at some more satellite maps of my area again. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the memories and fine eating ahead.
  11. Yup not many caught by the river mouths, as was stated witht the high water they just blew by. Hearing that the trout are in the rivers and being caught on a semi regular basis.
  12. "Peg 4 is hot" has become a favourite saying out on the lake. Shelley and Courtney...yuk...whatever happened to that fishing show that had the hot chicks in bikini's deep sea fishing. Sort of like soft porn and fishing..now that was entertainment.
  13. Congrats on a successful archery hunt. Enjoy your tasty reward.

Yup noticed that last night, now very tired.
  15. I agree that we should not be ashamed of hunting and our hunting heritage. We should be proud to be hunters and fisherman for that matter. I work in downtown TO and have these discussuions defending hunters all the time. If we respect our harvests and don't waste an ounce of meat than we should be proud of our actions. Yes there are idiots in every hobby/sport, these bad apples in hunting unfortunately lead to deaths or injuries. In fishing it migh be a lure in the head, or watching the idiot snaggers. As outdoors people, be proud of your actions and show them off if you are comfortable about it. Any sensible conversation on hunting is exposure and thus good for the sport. The fishing community should realize that they are in the same boat as hunters. If we allow hunting/gun previleges to be taken away, the next target will be fisherman. A lot of fisherman practice C & R and thus can state that they are not killing like hunters. But the next step then is the antis going after all fisherman asking - why hurt those poor fish?, would you like a hook in you mouth? Poor fish, your holding it out of the water while it suffers, all for a picture? etc etc. Be proud of your hobby/sport whether hunting or fishing. Share the reasons why you do it with as many people as you can and our sports will remain and grow. Thus not having to feel ashamed for what we love doing.
  16. I joke with my dad (Habs Fan) every year and tell him "this is the year, the Leafs will win it all". We'll at the age of 39, I am finding it harder and harder to say this each year, although I still do. I know, I know - rebuilding, make too much money, need dedicated owners/managers,etc. hundreds of reasons. My only worry is that by the time the Leafs actually do win the cup I'll be at the parade in a wheelchair.... ah who am I kidding.... THIS IS THE YEAR, THE LEAFS WILL WIN IT ALL!...haha.
  17. RT all the thingsyou have mentioned I think contribute to the lack of fish and poor fishing in GB.
  18. I see your from Burlington so I assume you are talking west side of cooks bay. Free launch at the end of HWY 89. If you want to Launch at a marina off 89 make a right on Hwy 11 then first Left and follow that to the water. I think the Marina is called Cook's Bay Marina. Better launch at the end of Innisfil Rd in the park but $30 for non residents. Also you can launch in the Holland River off of Queenston and a few other places. Hope this helps, good luck fishing with the new boat.
  19. I would actually encourage you to go out on a hunt with your friend and get a feel for what hunting is all about. Just make sure you don't have a firearm and you stay close to your friend at all times. This way you can't be accused of aiding in the hunt by pursue the animal without a license. I have brought many people out with me to expose tem to the outdoors and hunting and they loved it, and CO have no problem with this as long as you stick to the rules. Another tip, bring a camera with you, you might get some wildlife shots or even better pictures of your buddy taking down a deer. Good luck and be safe.
  20. I find that muskie only taste good if they are over 50". Stuff a trophy muskie with fingerling trout that yet can net at a release site and eat away.....hahaha.
  21. Busy with the ducks and geese now, but hope to get out with the bow in the next few weeks. Good luck all and be safe.
  22. Couple of weekends ago drove up to Huntsville from TO with two hunting buddies for the Central Onario Waterfowl Opener. We drove up Friday night to stay in a hotel and be fresh in the morning to hunt. On the way up a small Pontiac rips by us as we are doing 100km close to Webers. Sure enough couple kms later, the Pontiac is pulled over by 2 OPP. Anyway at the Hotel we are outside chatting and start talking to a early 20's fellow, who states he's not doing to well because his buddy just got pulled over. We all say ahh you were in the Pontiac. Sure enough he let his buddy drive his car from T.O. going to North Bay. They get stopped doing 178km/h in a 90km zone and to top it off the driver blows over because as the kid says "they just finished the first case between them". This kids actually asking if we think his buddy will get out that night and if he would get the car back...lol. Needless to say his buddy wasn't going anywhere for a while. 178km and 12 beers on Hwy 11, nuts lucky they still are alive.
  23. Yuk.......grrrrrrrrrrrrr........who started this non fishing topic....lol.
