  1. PM me .. bout that .. Im a hard core -lead-core speck fisherman .... if you've got some fancy new 'micro' version .. I'd love to try it
  2. Yep .. me too ... actually had a Beemer race past us (on a curve) just as an oncoming car was approaching (that we could see but they obviously couldnt) and as they swerved back into our lane in front of the car I was a passenger in - it flipped onto its roof and did three cartwheels before landing right side up about 50 feet into a farmers field. (This was on the way home from the Kawarthas about 30 years ago - before anyone had cell phones) ... I saw it all happen in slow motion ... watched this car flying end over end and stuff flying out as the trunk popped open .... when the driver of our car stopped the two girls in the front seat ran in the opposite direction (I found out later they were running to the farmhouse to call for help) and I ran straight into the field ... at about 20 steps away I was sure I could see smoke coming from under their hood and there was a strong smell of smell gas .... the driver had already staggered out into the mud but his passenger (a girl in her early twenties) was hanging out the passenger window ... I was sure the car was gonna catch fire - or worse - any second so I grabbed under her arms and dragged her out the window - through the mud about 20 feets away .. I honestly not even sure I remember doing it .... well afterwards I really wondered if I could have done her more harm than good ... but there was real imminent danger in my opinion and as it turned out she walked away with only minor injuries. Of course we were on the scene for several hours and again in court .. but if god forbid it were to happen again ...I would do it again ... perhaps with more experience I would have taken a step back to do more assessment before reacting ... So yes ... I would definitely help ... but in your friends case (and perhaps if it were me) I fully understand that if the folks on the scene appear to have things under control they dont need distraction from other well meaning bystanders and I probably would have left too - after a little pause to see for myself.
  3. Two words ... google earth ... never before have you ever been able to 'fly' the area .. look for tribs you didnt know about ... see the real lay of the land in 3D and look for features on land and lakeshore that could hold a clue ... and see hidden back lakes mere meters away from your 'haunting grounds' that you never saw before ... and it just aint the same looking at maps as it is flying the terrian like a video game .... my new 'off-season' pass-time
  4. Got some lunker pike (at least 4 40"+) this year using great big flashy spoons (silver bronze combo seemed most productive)... I believe they were *' or more ... anyways whatever ...big as they come ... just get out there and enjoy ! By the way I have caught plenty of smallies at 40 feet over 100 feet of water while fishing for lakers with "Monsters-only-please" sized baits ... go figure
  5. X2 on the Mountgay XO ... nuthin better (if you re a Bajan at least )
  6. I fish in Muskoka (hardwater) and have been checked almost 50% of the time I have been out there .. maybe I am just on the 'route' but I am not seeing this .... having said that, my favourite eastern trib which I have fished for over 40 years ... never once seen em ... but trust me we 'the people' do our own policing ... and more than a few would-be offenders have wandered sheepishly away seeing me saunter in their direction with my brushcut and green cap
  7. I carry a ultra strong magnet on a long rope for just such occasions .. and especially...god-forbid ...car keys etc
  8. Yep .. wouldnt drive north of Barrie without em .. gotta get some for my wifes car next year so she can bring her car to the cottage too
  9. Bass Pro sells one designed to be a transom mount clamp that you can attach/bolt your xducer to ... I clamp a piece of 1"X2"X3' to form a tee at the top of the hole ... and my graph just sits on the cooler (to keep it up off the ice) and the xducer goes down the same hole as my minnow ...that way I can easily mark my minnow (a separate hole makes it very hard to mark your minnow at 40 - 80 feet)... in my case I can watch my minnow swimming around and getting all 'worried' when a fish is approaching - even before I mark the incoming fish
  10. Gonna be up in Muskoka ... but there is a small chance I'll make it down for the day (weather permitting)
  11. Hope today was a success Wayne. would love to send her to another Hockey game
  12. Sail sells a porta-bucket-potty .... basically a 5 gal bucket with a toilet seat ... use the white kitchen-crapper bags .... I dont ... as in REFUSE ... to answer natures call when out on the ice ... but then in 'emergency' ...theres always a Timmys near by somewhere
  13. I used mine for year on the ice ...and it worked like a charm. I actually screwed the transducer (where is screws onto the suction cup onto an old hockey stick shaft and made a little T at the top with a single screw so I cold fold/turn it flat in the Trunk Worked like a charm (the stick was only about 36" but that was plenty for where I fish.
  14. ok ... the real question is .... why ?
  15. Thanks guys ... it was special ... they made me feel like I was a true Leafs Alumni !
  16. Well ... this was definitely a bucket list item ... and " A THRILL" doesnt even come close to describing it ... what a great bunch of fellas ... A couple of pics for the wall of fame !!! Yours Truly and Johnny Bower laying down in front Front Left : Mike Palmateer, Darryl Sittler, Darcy Tucker, Mark laForest, Gary Leeman, Bill Derlago Back Left : Greg Hotham. Lou Franceschetti, Rick Natress, Kevin Maguire, Jack Valiquette, Dave McLlwain, Mark Osborne I even managed to find the back of the net
  17. Great report Moose ! Boy did that ever bring back memories ... I was there about a year ago ... how'd you like the drive up the wrong side of the highway to beat the border crossing at Nicaragua ... 20+ miles of 18 wheelers waiting for the border to open at 8am? wasnt until we got there that we realized why it was so important to get there before 8 ... there was another 20 miles of trucks waiting on the Nicaragua side to come south ... we'd have been there all day ! we also fished in Nicaragua off a small boat right at the beach at San Juan Del Sur ... inshore. Our best fishing day was right at Coco beach back in Costa Rica... off big 40 foot boat with riggers and all the right gear - and yes a fighting chair ... dont think it even cost us $100 for a full day and they took us out a good 20 + miles and worked their butts off as we gave up on the billfish and started into 30+ lb groupers one after another (about 10 of them) in about 300 feet of water -
  18. Oh .. Rosseau is frozen (at least where I go)... about 6 inches of decent ice down towards Port Carling. Was on my spot for about 3 minutes before Icing the season's first laker (a nice 3 pounder) ... didnt bother with the pics (derby doesnt start for another week or so
  19. Shut the front door !!!!! And I was one of the first 100 or so
  20. Sorry fellas no pics, suffice it to say it was absolutely beautiful out on Tyne L. ... and although the rumours of 5 lb Brookies and monster Splake abound ... I managed only one little Splake about 7" which barely saw the light of day before being reunited with it's year class.. Didi manage several hits and the megadump of snow made for some interesting driving .... next time ... I am thinking Widgeon or perhaps Emsdale ... any tips from my Burks Falls/Sundridge/South River brethren ?
  21. Actually I have many times convinced some poor soul (sans Licence) to come spend an hour or two with me in the great outdoors .. and watch me fish ... I would fight that one all the way to the supreme court ... of course I never let em touch my rod
  22. I've always had a big (6" or more) old stinky sucker (frozen from last summers left overs) ...lying right on bottom as my second line .... and though it normally averages less than one hit a day ... it is ALWAYS something with 'shoulders' Having said that my PB was in about 30 FOW and I actually saw the flash about 10 feet below the hole so I dropped back down to it and it hit at about 15 ft (mid water) If you dont already have one a flasher (or graph) is essential. White is definitely my color of choice for artificials .. but I like the 2" shiner on a small octopus hook with a single split shot about a foot up from bottom when fishing for the table.
  23. OK ... Send me a great big 8" silver/Gold or red/white spoon (like a Wobbler) and I'll getcha some pics of Lakers (on the downrigger), send me a little itsy bitsy white spoon with red polka dots (like a 1.5" mooselook .. and Ill getcha some pics of pretty ice out specks Send me a nice fuzzy fleece or sweatshirt with your Logo all over it (I'm happy to pay for it) and I'll even wear it in the pics
