well put, if anybody reading this is renting a waterheater, it's a scam, take the time, make some calls, and buy your rental or get out of the rental agreement monthly payments can really add up over the years these guys are snakes

Took the dog for a walk today, into some trails in a wooded area we often go. The city of Oakville harvested the ash trees recently. I was surprised at the results. I talked to a botanist who was there. She said they don't expect to get rid of the beetle and may not even slow it's progress, but the work was mainly for the safety of people using the area, so branches/ trees don't fall on them. It looked like a giant clearcut. Even the trees far back from the trails were taken. The cross section of the cut trees looked fine, no rot or weak spots. Seems like a big waste of tax dollars and effort to me. On alot of these issues, I think money is often better spent preserving something, rather than trying to rehab something already messed up.

great pictures, lots of big, healthy smallies I've been to this lake a few times, looks like you guys did alot better than we did, I think the outpost is in the better end of the lake too, it's a long boat ride to the western end from the main camp

Looking for Mr Splakey, Haliburton back lake report w/pics
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
commons, emeralds, they didn't seem to mind, there was even a few suckers in there too that got hit we could really notice the year classes of the fish caught, the lake's stocked every 2nd year, any tips on how find the old timers? -
Krupa's destinations are the best, Krupa himself is a little too Hollywood for me, I still love the show though Charlie, I find is hard to watch, he's a bit of a nerd, not quite as annoying as Italo though, I can't stand Italo and I can feel my blood pressure rising even as I write his name, damn!

Looking for Mr Splakey, Haliburton back lake report w/pics
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
yeah, I seem to always want to explore the back lakes, sometimes it works out, sometimes not so much I think the steady, fluffy snow added to our memories of the day, the squall was cool too cool, thanks, next weekend is guys weekend at the cottage, 2 city slickers, fishin', sleddin', and probably some drinkin' the shallowest was 5', the deepest was 20', all depths yielded strikes, only 1 tip-up never moved all day, I'd say optimum depth that day was 8' thanks, the family aspect made it special -
This daytrip was with my Dad and brother. We don't get out together alot anymore, so we went on a trek. A pretty good drive to our starting point. We used 1 snowmobile (2 guys) and pulled a sled for the third guys so we could get everyone in, in one trip. Here's the guys walking the last trail to our destination lake, alot of nice hemlock forests in the area. We couldn't get large emerald shiners, we had some tiny emeralds and some larger common shiners. I was worried the common shiners weren't going to do the trick. We set up the tip-ups, no bites for the first 45 minutes, then the frenzy started. the fish came in waves, all afternoon when the bite was on, it was hard to keep all the lines set, and hard to warm up your hands here's a nice male that looks more brookie-ish we lit a fire in some pines on the shore, flurries all day then a good snow squal later in the afternoon we landed 11 fish on probably around 25 bites, the action would come in waves, then go quiet for awhile We all had a great day, a good adventure, it was likely one of my top 50, all time fun fishing days

I'm ok with that, I don't like the thought of wasting fish/ livestock unnecessarily like they did with the Alberta beef a few months ago it looks like it saves a few tax dollars too, by not having to compensate the fish farmer it could be shock to a consumer who buys a fillet in a package, skin side down, gets it home, fires up the BBQ, then notices some nasty lesions after the package is opened

NF What to do if your vehicle goes through ice
chris.brock replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
I went for a swim while snowmobiling a few years back, the interesting things I remember were -the adrenaline of the situation allowed me to function, and not feel the cold -after almost an hour of trying to get the sled hooked to a rope and on the ice, I suddenly felt cold, and like Trent River Fishin said, I didn't feel totally warm until 2 days after -
Haliburton Back Lake report, and ice hut launching
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
for sure, sounds like a plan I still owe you a back lake trip too -
I kept a small, green sunfish in an aquarium for a while, voracious little bugger, it would constantly harass the other fish, nipping their scales off I came home one day to find that the green sunfish had jumped clear out of the tank and was dead on the floor very cool, unique native fish

Haliburton Back Lake report, and ice hut launching
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
totally, Red Green never mentioned that duct tape burns when used on a stove pipe though, damn! these stoves are pretty popular with cheap buggers like me, luckily the building inspector in Haliburton doesn't look at ice huts -
I wouldn't call that resisting the investigation is likely a load of biased Bull anyways I'd like to see jail time and, bye- bye public sector job/ pension
-
brutal, I hope he loses his job/ pension, and serves some long jail time he's a real tough guy with a gun in his holster and 2 cops there as back-up, beating on a smaller guy these cops seem to have free pass to avoid prosecution though, he's likely at home, with pay, until this gets swept under the rug like Terry said, how often does this happen when there's no video footage?

Saturday afternoon, Steve and me hit a back lake for some stocked lakers. Here's Steve's sled, Tundra 300 LT, it's a great bushwacking sled too. We rode down the side of the road, onto a lake, down the lake, then across a trail to our destination lake. I think this pic will be familiar to a few people. An old heavy duty truck that can be run along the portage in hunting season. I don't know if it still runs. At our destination, Steve punches a few holes, he brought his ATV today Nice, quiet spot to spend the afternoon. A little too quiet, no bites at all Saturday night moon Sunday morn. sunrise Put my hut out on Gull, Sunday morn the red-neck woodstove worked good, it can turn the hut into a sauna Winston waiting for a fish to come out of the hole Another great weekend at the cottage
-
looks like a great day, that's an awesome hut too, what's it weigh?

I'm a useless member so I won't waste anymore of your precious time, good luck on the other fishing message boards, bye

awesome report, looks like a great adventure, you guys are hardcore -
I don't think it's worth the effort and expense for Obama to try and tighten gun laws, bad guys are going to get retricted/ prohibited firearms regardless of legislation. The US is already teeming with guns Obama's motives may include his own popularity though not quite yet I guess
