Every year, my sister invite us over to her cottage for the weekend and every year I look forward to being there This past weekend was the time my family and I get to spend quality time up there for the last few days of our vacation The cottage is situated on an island and surrounded by water... only way to get there is by boat Tranquility and peace is what I look forward to when going up No hydro, phone, TV, computer to play with but there's lots more things to do for the whole family like going on the beach and sit in the sun with a cold drink and when it's too hot, hit the lake Water skying, fishing, hiking in the bush or going for a boat ride are all great activities to do Here's a view of the beach and a few more Here's a few shots of the cottage and the landscape Inside views There's also water skying for those that like it... sister here getting ready Brother in law getting ready to go My daughter Mélissa tried water skying for the first time and compiled a video of her attemps... she almost got it <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid732.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww321%2Fleechman1%2FSoftwater%2520Season%25202012%2FCamp%2520Danielle%2520et%2520Phil%2520-%252028%2520Juillet%25202012%2FFamily%2520Getaway%25202012%2FMlissaWaterSkyingAttemps.mp4"> There's also fishing to do for those that like it Here I was anxiously watching my daughter take on water skying for the first time Miscellaneous shots last but not least... the residents All in all my family and I had a great time but this morning, reality hit hard... it was back to work Ah well, there's always next year Hope you enjoy! I was up at my sister's cottage this weekend and planned on fishing live leeches for smallies wacky style Bought a dozen of them and thought I'd share how I rig them Well, fishing wise was tough since the reservoir / lake, had 4' of water missing in it Most of the structure that used to be under water, was above it Oh well was still fun trying Made this little video to show you's... enjoy!!! Another eventful session this morning while I was about to have my hot brew in my favorite corner As I'm about to go outside, I notice the female & male waxwing were flying all over and landing on different areas of my deck.... found this odd So I grab the camera and stepped out... one of them landed between my wooden bench and table so I took this shot She flew away but didn't go far... landed low on my pine tree After this shot she flown up into the maple tree So now it's got me intrigue, I'm thinking.... what are they doing?? are they trying to get my attention away from something?? So I walk up to the stairs to get down on the grass to have a closer look when from the corner of my eye, catch this standing still Here's a closer shot Now that I know what the parents were trying to do, decided to leave the chick alone and went inside... 15 minutes later, I go back out to check on the chick and to my surprise... there's 2 now So now I'm really scratching my head as to what to do with these 2... I go inside and go online, Google to see what can be done to save them and to my surprise, I found something Here's the link Caring for Baby Birds... Here's an excerpt of what it recommended I do *****Quote: Uninjured Baby Birds If you find an uninjured young bird you will need to determine whether or not it is really an orphaned bird. The best way is to determine if it is a nestling or a fledgling. Most young birds that are found are really just young fledglings that can't fly well.... In order to determine whether the bird is a nestling or a fledgling allow the baby bird to perch on your finger. If it is able to grip your finger firmly than it is a fledgling. The best thing to do in this case is to place it in a nearby tree or shrub and leave it alone. The parents will continue to care and feed it on their own.... *****Unquote So I did and determine that these 2 were fledgling, so I immediately place them back into the tree where the nest was and left them alone But before I did, snapped this shot of one on my finger Cute little guy Now my good deed is done for the day and feel they have a better chance at getting fed & care from the parents Tight lines TJunkie

Nice pics Joey and Lew We got hammered pretty good last night... actually twice with heavy rain, extremely strong winds and hail (some the size of toonies). My cousin who lives 15 minutes away from me, his neighbor's house got hit by lightning and caught on fire I saw him on the 6 o'clock news and he said that he immediately called 911 after he saw the bolt and smoke coming out of the roof... while they we were waiting for the fire fighters, they used their own water hose but it wasn't enough The fire was spreading fast The good thing is that no one was injure.

Yep I'm talking about leeches here Sinclair not craws and frogs... they're illegal up here in QC Your right about the ones you mentioned above... talk about senkos, one I like throwing at them is a 7" Minnow Gulp cherry seed rigged wacky style on a 4/0 wide gap octopus hook They just can't get enough of it -

Smallies definitely love live leeches and it's an effective bait to use wacky style... up here in QC it's the only live bait I can use other than dew worms as live craws is a no no. How I rig it is simply put it on hook, cast and let the presentation slowly fall to bottom, no split shots required. I can assure you, if there is smallies around, your presentation will not get to the bottom How to place on hook is as follows: place a leech in your hand and let it suck for a few seconds (don't worry they don't byte lol) stick the hook into it behind the head and careful not to poke your hand... it will roll on itself causing a ball. Pull on hook to release it from your hand and you will hear a pop noise like a suction cup grab it's tail, unroll it and pass it onto the hook again... it will roll again in a ball and as soon as it hits the water, watch it expand and try to swim Yep... you'll get snag. -
Good time Paul & Bro That's what it's all about

Nice Davey!!! Sounds like fun

Thanks Dan!!! I wish the lake I fish had some of those 22"er but reality is, they don't last long... Every year it's stocked and the lake is very easy to access.... one just need to stop the car, get out and cast... doesn't necessary mean you'll catch them but you get the picture. Up here, the big native brookie lakes are deep in the bush and one needs an ATV 4 wheel drive to get to them I don't own any or boat, so this little pond is perfect for me This is the third limit I get out of this lake in 4 years of fishing it from shore... I'm pretty happy about it
