  2. Missed the late fall open water window to make my first visit to Quinte ever, so now a friend and I are planning on giving it a shot on the hardwater this winter. I was hoping some OFC'ers might help us out with a few tips. Not looking for your secret spots etc. Just some generalizations. Big 'eyes are the target, of course. Is last ice the best time, as spawn approaches? Or maybe timing doesn't matter that much and you can get them all winter long if you're in the right spots? Speaking of spots (or maybe "patterns" is a better way to put it), are you looking for a certain depth, and would that be deep or shallow, or on breaklines etc. I've caught my share of walleye through the ice in small lakes, but I'm thinking Quinte might be a different beast, and with a limited amount of time, I'd like to try and narrow things down a bit before heading out on the ice. We don't have sleds or 4-wheelers, so we're not as mobile as some of you, but we don't really want to be pinned down with a ice hut rental either. We'll probably be on foot. Do you need to be way offshore? Thanks everyone!
  3. I have come to rely more and more TripAdvisor for planning my travels. You can find User Reviews on destinations, resorts, hotels, restaurants, and tips on excursions, booking charters out of certain places. I never go anywhere for a vacation anymore without first reading what other people have said about the place. The place you're talking about in El Salvador has been reviewed by 999 other people who have stayed there, and it got an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The breakdown is 338 gave it Excellent (5 stars), 347 gave is Very Good (4 stars), 150 gave it Average (3 stars), 87 gave it Poor (2 stars) and 77 people gave it Terrible (1 star). http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1556951-d594674-Reviews-Royal_Decameron_Salinitas-Sonsonate_Sonsonate_Department.html Of course, be cautious when reading the reviews. There will always be people that find something to complain about, and will rate the place low. Look at the average rating, out of 5 stars, and take into consideration where people are from when you read their reviews. Americans tend to complain the most about tiny little insignificant things (an AC that was too loud in their room, or it rained 4 out of 7 days they were they, like the resort could do something about that) and so they give the place 2 or 3 out of 5 stars. On the other hand, Europeans, especially from Britian, think anything bigger than a broom closet is luxury, and if everything's not covered in black mould, then it's a 5-star palace. Of course, these are generalizations as well, but I'm just trying to explain that you have to take much of what you read with a grain of salt. One way I've learned how to interpret other people's comments on TripAdvisor is to read what people said about places I've already been to, and then compare them to my own experience and impressions. TripAdvisor also has a forum page, with sub-forums for specific countries etc. I checked, and they have one for El Salvador. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g1556951-i13597-Sonsonate_Sonsonate_Department.html So, join TripAdvisor, and post your questions about the resort, and fishing charters there. Good luck!
  4. I thought airplane jigs went the way of the Banjo Minnow .....
  5. My first reaction is just disgust. These guys are arguing over money?!?! A video like this definitely does NOT make me want to pull for the players, and I don't want to pull for the owners either, so I guess I'm just essentially done with all the rich boys of the NHL - both sides.
  6. I fish because the voices in my head tell me to. and My biggest fear in life is that, when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it.
  7. Phenomenal! Some day, I hope to get to Quinte for a late fall trip. I'm always worried about towing my boat in snow and slush. Maybe this is the year - no snow yet!
  8. I had never heard of them so I checked out their website and watch a couple videos. I've never seen anything like it. The sheepshead video .... I'm speechless. I don't know what to say, other than I couldn't stop watching. It was the most odd, amazing, mesmerizing, entertaining fishing video I've seen, possibly ever. These guys are gonna do alright!
  9. Isn't a kitchen party and a funeral the same thing on the Rock!?!
  10. Wish it were true! I think they're here to stay though. Unless DOW Chem comes up with a gobi-cide!
  11. The term "guest" implies that at some point, they will leave Not the case for these buggers, unfortunately ....
  12. I have both the 7.5" and 10" Monster Tubes from Red October .... how'd you work them? Jigging, or ripping? When did the hits come? On the drop? Nice skis!
  13. Sorry all - that's about the only thing that came to mind after reading that diatribe of a post ....

  17. That does not surprise me at all, Dana. Not that sweet goes well with fish, but rather that you think it does, based on your potentially-disturbing-for-children avatar! Now, before you flame me like my mother-in-laws grilled cheese my kids refuse to eat, it's all in jest Except for the disturbing avatar part ....
  18. I have a question that's probably stupid, but I've always wondered ..... who is Bettman's boss? He must answer to someone, and why hasn't that "someone" fired his ass a LONG long long time ago? I'm guessing it's some Board made up of the team owners or something like that, so that's probably why he hasn't been, because he makes them too much money, and doesn't really give a crap about what the game really is or means to the fans across Canada and the US. Personally, I just can't stand the little NY weasly twerp.
  19. When men were men.
  20. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to ask that question!!! I'm pretty sure it won't be answered! If you have a place like that, you generally keep it to yourself! None of this It sure does look magical though!
