Awesome video man! That lake is unbelievable! What software did you use to edit the video? -
Awesome pike - is that the same lake as your post a week or so ago? If it is, that's one honey-hole you've got!

Gravlax is one of my and my wife's favourite way to eat salmon. The 3 days we let it sit and cure in the fridge is almost unbearable as we can't wait to slice that baby up and eat it! Here's our recipe!! Gravlax.doc

Great info for anyone planning a trip up to Beteau. Unfortunately, the bank account says that won't be me this year I really hope to get there some day. No, I don't hope - I KNOW I will get there some day. When exactly that "some day" will be is the current unknown. An otherwise perfectly healthy guy at work dropped dead last week from a heart attack. 59 years old. You just never know - so you can't put off things like Beteau in your life forever ......

Sweet thick pike! You got some awesome lakes around you! -
Interestingly, I live in Vermont (though I'm from Ontario) and they are a "Gold Star Open Carry State". Although it is allowed, you rarely see anyone actually carrying. Vermont is also a Unrestricted Carry state, meaning you can also carry CONCEALED without a permit (only one other state in the US allows this and that is Arizona). Is it any surprise that Vermont has the lowest violent crime rate in the US? Open carry laws of loaded handguns (www.OpenCarry.org) YELLOW Gold Star Open Carry State ORANGE Open Carry Friendly State GREEN Licensed Open Carry State RED Non Permissive Open Carry State GREY Rural Open Carry State Permissive Open Carry States which means the states have passed full preemption regarding all firearm laws. These states permit open carry to all law-abiding citizens without a criminal record without any special permit or firearms license. The open carry is legal for a citizen on foot or in a motor vehicle. The states that allow this are Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Virginia, Alaska and Kentucky. Licensed Open Carry States allows open carry to all law-abiding citizens once they apply and are approved for a permit or firearms license. They can also carry on foot or in their motor vehicle. The states that require a permit or license for open carry are Utah, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Massachusetts. Anomalous Open Carry States open carry in these states are generally lawful, but the state itself may have other stiff restrictions to deter citizens from carry a firearm open. The laws in these states are very grey and could cause you a lot of problems if you go toting a gun around openly. The states that have a lot of grey area on open carry are Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Louisiana , Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maine, Delaware and New Hampshire. You shouldn't carry open firearms in these states just to avoid a charge of bringing terror to the people which only requires a citizen to see you carry open firearms and saying they are in fear. You will get charged.

Just Another QC Update! (HUGE PIKE)
lhousesoccer replied to Fishing 24/7's topic in General Discussion
Well - you've got it figured out! You need access to waters that grow pike like that first to be able to catch them, then you gotta figure it out. Nice job! One last question - I generally hang my dead bait a foot or so off the bottom, generally on flats close to drop offs. However, I've heard from a number of people that putting a big dead sucker or something just under the ice, like a foot under, works great - even if you're over 20, 30 or 40 feet of water. The theory is the pike cruise right under the ice looking for dead fish, which will often float rather than sink, and get pinned just under the ice. I'm going to try that this year. Have you ever done it? -

That's a beauty Esox! Out of curiosity, what are you hanging under ice for bait? Sucker? Whitefish? Smelt? Dead or alive? -
The single best used boat website for fishing boats I've ever seen is on Walleye Central. There are hundreds of boats for private sale there. https://www.walleyecentral.com/classified/new/searchresults.jsp

Bob Izumi had a show up north somewhere with Gord Pyzer, where they were hanging giant dead, frozen whitefish on tip-ups under the ice for big pike. You can watch it here: http://www.realfishing.com/rf/player.php?f=200904

First Lake trout report of the year.
lhousesoccer replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Limey et. al: Great jigging video, but you guys don't know wind! Check out this video I made last February on Lake Champlain (in Vermont), ice fishing lakers. By the way, I'm all over that Rattlin' Rap this winter (if we get any ice). Nice tip! Maybe it will make those pesky lakers in my video finally committ to hitting! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K44KPBNuQ4 -
I had a chance to go to an AHL game last night in Glens Falls, NY to see the Adirondack Phantoms play the Binghamtom Senators at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The Phantoms are Philly's farm team. Pretty good hockey, and the guy who hooked us up with the tickets has 7 season tickets at ice level right in the corner. There were alot of smashed faces in the glass 3 feet from my and my 5 year old son, who just started playing hockey this year. He was psyched, but I had to talk to him during the game that checking was only for "big boys". The thing I thought was most interesting was the optical illusion of ice space. These guys were huge, and there looked to be no room on the ice at all when 10 players and 4 refs were skating around. I kept thinking to myself, this ice surface has to be small than NHL size. It just looked totally cramped out there. But the giant TV's they had hanging at each end showing replays looked just like watching NHL on TV. I'd watch a play in real time, with a guy coming in over the blue line around a couple defencemen and taking a shot on net. How did he squeeze through there? Then, I look up to see the replay and it looks like he's got 20-feet of open ice around him! It was weird! I checked on the ice surface dimension later and the Civic Center's ice is exactly to NHL specs - 200' x 85'. I've only ever been to 3 NHL games in my life and have always sat way up high. Never at ice level. A completely different perspective. Senators beat the Phantoms 5-3, by the way, and Michael Leighton (many NHL games under his belt) was in net for the Phantoms. He didn't look great, but apparently is recovering from back surgery.
