  1. If your planning Ice fishing you'll have to wait till next year, the season on Quinte closes March 1
  2. 4th saturday in April so it's the 23rd not the 30th
  3. It has an economic impact on the Band, they earn monies from fishing,it also has an econimic impact on resteraunts who now serve nipissing walleye dinners, and the fish market who sells nipissing fish. The quota system the native fishery follows and supports sustainability programs which means the lake will suport a commercial fishery. Sport fisherman have to relize the fishery does not just belong to them, there are other players out on the lake. Instead of whinning and crying, get on board with the other players on the lake and invest in the fishery. The tourist operations on the lake have been on a free ride forever without putting a nickle back in, they just whine and complain mean while rapping the resource for years, for one thing profit.
  4. I totaly agree there are no simple answers
  5. There is way more comercial ice fishing operations on Nipissing in the last 10-15 yrs,the invention of the "Ice Bungalos" put dozens more operators on the lake.At one time perhaps %50 of tourist operations put huts out and ran viable winter fisheries, now it seems every operator puts out Bungalos, weather they are a lodge or not.The explosion of ice fishing gear also has pressured the populations, now anglers just don't rent a hut for the weekend they come up with ATV's, sonars portable huts the populations take a beating all winter. This along with everything else has beat up the population, the natives are trying to improve on there end but the sportfishers and tourist operators have made no attempt except for alot of whinning and crying.Baning one groups livelyhood to improve yours is not the answer or is it going to happen. As for lake Simcoe the only reason a viable fishery exsists is because of heavy stocking efforts for years, if left to natural populations Lake Simcoe would be nothing but perch and bass fishery
  6. Netting is suspended during the spawn, thats one of the biggest issues that is being policed right now. I know quite a few locals who crushed the eye's this winter with more 5lb-9lb fish then ever, these dudes however worked to find the fish and didn't rely on the same old traditional spots. The fishery has changed and if you keep getting poor results you have to adapt or just keep getting the same results. The locals who are getting below average results are mostly the ones who don't change along with the fishery. The Southbay areas have taken a beating in the last 10yrs, day huts and the "ice bungalos" have trippled out there and people wonder why the area sucks. Thats easy constant pressure has taken it's toll, the funny thing is the fish are still there just alittle harder to catch.Walleye rarely slam spoons and jigs anymore but have turned into very light biters, sometimes you need your finger on the line to feel the fish as they are very warry of taking a bait.
  7. The same old whining and crying about Nipissing walleye populations, which has gone on for the last 30yrs.The populations fluctuate on Nipissing just like every big lake and the Southern Ontario weekend warriors cry when they can't limit out everyday.Sure the fishing changed, 3000 registered huts and more pressure then ever has an affect, as far as the natives nothing has changed except there regulating there harvest more now then ever before. If you think the native harvest is something new your wrong, it's been going on for years, even when Nipissing populations were high and long before Southern Ontario tourists decided Lake Nipissing is there playground. Anyway locals in the know caught plenty of Nipissing Walleye this winter and if Lake Nipissing isn't your cup of tea anymore go somwhere else and whine & cry about that fishery.
  8. Peter's Tackle in St Catharines $85.00
  9. Roland Martin is the grandfather of professional fishing, him, Al Linder and a few others created the multi million dollar markets of angling.Pro Bass fishing, Walleye fishing, the invention of Bass boats, electronics and million other tecniques were all invented by a few of these anglers with a vision.Without the work done by guys like Roland Martin the fishing industry would be years behind the market it is today, and Professional Bass and other tournament fishing would probably not exsist.I say cut the dude some slack he's just trying to make a living.
  10. I always found on Nip in march the Walleye slow down drasticly, there entering the prespawn and don't feed nearly as much. They are also migrating and staging closer to the spawning rivers and shoals. This being said they do still bite, but like said the window of oportunity is shorter maybe a 20min-45min bite at dusk.I use to fish closer to the French at the end of the season, the eye's seem to migrate towards the river systems. It is tough to get on fish and since the bite is ussually short if your not set-up at the magic hour you end with noth'in, it's a feast or famine type secnario this time of year. I usually know the prespawn is coming when I start getting lots of herring in my traditional walleye spots
  11. Try fishing Queenston, lots of fish from shore, easy access and the boat ramp is there. You will get a good idea of the ramp and the drift so if at a later time you wish to bring your boat you will have a good understanding of what to expect. It is a good shore fishing spot and I'm sure you'll meet up with plenty of other anglers that will show you the tricks.
  12. The press release is a little misleading, the hunter was fined $300 for not producing a valid game tag, he probably had a hunting Liscence but had already used his tag.The reason the fine is only $300 is because he did not kill a Moose without the proper tag, therefore the actual damages is lower, the fine would have been much higher if in fact a kill was made.
  13. 2 million stocked 80-100 returns you be the judge
  14. I agree there on the pricey side but Grant has put alot of attention into the details on his cranks and they work.It may just be a confidence thing, but the bottom line is these cranks catch fish and for a few extra $$$$ I like the confidence aspect that I'm throwing a winner.I think they are one of the finest baits to hit the market in long time and from the results of alot of anglers there definitly a proven goto bait
  15. At the very least Burke is making it interesting,he's always cooking up some moves and has made a ton of cap room. You never know one day he may come up with a winning combination,I gotta hand it to him for trying.
  16. I know how you feel 4th day fighting off the H1N1....this is by far the worst flu ever
  17. get rid of the commercial ice hut operations
  18. I hope this style is only for the restricter plate races, which are boring anyway. The best thing about Nascar is the bumping and paint changing thats what makes the sport,if you take that out you might aswell watch the indy go carts go around in a circle.
  19. I agree, there's no racing till turn 4 of the last lap, what a joke daytona is going to be.
  20. perfect hahahahahah....noth'in better then that
  21. To be honest I already thought it was law for a hut to have reflectors on it, if it isn't it should be.If you ride trails in the north, bridges, trees, curves, signs etc are all clearly marked with reflective tape or paint.Accidents are still going to happen no matter what, legislating reflectors on ice huts is hardly a dumb idea.
  22. Putting reflectors on a permanent ice hut is common sense to me, your putting a man made obstruction out on an open lake and it only makes sense to me to have it well defined. Obviously it may not stop some idiot, for what ever reason from driving into it but it does make a big difference at night for most people to see your hut.For the time and low cost involved it's worth the effort. When your out at night on the sled the headlights pick-up the reflectors instantly,it makes a huge difference,I really can't understand why anyone would not put reflectors on a permanent shack.I also don't get why people would think it's a dumb idea, maybe just people that don't sled on lakes at night think it's a waste.
  23. Had a cottage there for 15yrs, there still is a few Lakers around, it's a pretty busy little lake now. Try the deeper waters 85-100' depths, I know of a few spots along the North east shoreline where the water drops off that had Lakers. I believe there is a " one rod per angler restriction " on Oxtonge for winter fishing. Some of the nearby back lakes had good populations of speckies, not sure if they stock them now.
  24. thankyou....I have read your posts and I understand your reational, I may not agree with it, but please understand my concerns aswell, you guys do a great job I will admit!!!!!! but sorry I like to critisize somtimes, and I still think I,d like to more on this fish ladder hahahha,. I'm a crap disturber dude so anyway, I'll be honest learned alot from the thread and sorry if I infact derailed it badly. I may not agree but I am open to everyone's opinion and this one is a can of worms I and as you people there is alot of opinion on the Credit River, more then I would of thought and acctualy some great points on both sides
