  1. Dude's I fish Port Dalhousie & the Niagra..so I bottom bounce, guys from toronto to london come down hereing how good the fishing is thinking all you gotta do is throw on pencile weight and fishing is great. Then they get here and the fishing sucks, but I got 3 or 4 Why because I'm running round ball weight, different drift from the round ball, slower, what ever its diferent. Somtmes I run bells, or bottom bouncers, I always change because I get a different drift, if there not hitting change up after i go through different weights and no hits it's time to go home hahahahhaa. Bottom bouncing is the same up north, there's agresive bouncing and not....lots of times you just know by the water, but that will you fool you. Trust me the thing is trouties are no harder catch then perch, just learn their crap
  2. True but thats a float zinging under while you smashing bottom is not the presentation you want, a float hinders the bounce. Bottom bouncinig corectly is a science my friend, it takes alot of drifts and knowing whats happening on thise drifts. It may look easy when I'm hooking-up but sometimes it aint so easy thats why some days I get 8-10 fish and others go home.If your float is hooking on bottom your not getting crap, if I'm bouncing right I'm catching thats a fact dude.Float fishing is a science aswell, you need the right drop and such, it's the same bottom bouncing, no different the key to the whole thing is give the fish the bait they want to hit. Whether your bottom bouncing, Center Pinning, throwing spoons, spinners......the key to the big game is getting the fish to hit. We may all go about differently, some like it that way....others this way it all ends up thr same ENJOYMENT
  3. not to get off topic, but all our fish in niagara are still swimming, the tricks down here are weight control. Lots of guys come down here and can't hook-up because you think bottom bouncing is as simple as putting on pencile sinker and bouncing bottom. The secret is to carry a variety of lead, somtimes I bounce bell weights, somtimes round ball, sometimes lindy weights, sometimes penciles. Not only is the size of the weight important but the presentation from the weight is big time important. When I fish Port D or the Niagara I carry 3 or 4 different types of 3/4 and 1 oz weights, my drift from a bell is diferent then my drift from a pencil.I get a more agrresive bounce from a pencle weight, less agressive from a ball, lindy weight or bell some where inbetween. Somtimes in norhtern tiribs I used to run only shot, I've changed to running 3/8 and 1/2 bottom bouncing lindy sinkers, I'll go dowm to 1/8 oz but the secret is to get the bounce.Bottom boucncing is an art form not many steel headers still do it, but is as good if not better then pinning, the problem is reach a pool and 10 guys are pinning what do you do? Sneak in check out the drift and weight, cast to the sweet spot bottom bounce your fish( it only takea a cast) then let the pinners damn around hahhahahahaha
  4. Hey Solo....I gotta a join the 20th freaking centry and join the centerpin crew hahahhaahhaa......it's just to much like perch & crappie fish'in, I like bottom bouncing a pool, or dift....it's like a wierd ole school thing for me, I mean steelheading was such and art before pins&floats and now every dude gets a $700 set-up and is a steelheader.I fished steelhead up north for 20yrs, I walk into a pool now and bottom bounce I'm the idiot, untill I limit out twice hahahhaaha. It 's a different game out there now, never under estimate the value of a good bottom bouncer hahahhah
  5. Hey Solo I think your a great angler and enjoy your posts, from steelheading to up in the wilds fishing you are holding down a family and living the dream. Don't change a thing my friend, I just wanted to coment on the pin thing, but I would still personally like to say your doing alright my friend, 2 thumbs up.It may not mean much but, from your posts and such your doing alright big time. Don't change a thing and I hope you intrust alittle of that solo into your sweet kids, that will be a blessing to our world !!!!! feel free to drown your pin in any steelhead stream hahahah
  6. Good answer...hey I'm not a pinner, I'm still an ole style bottom bouncer( lost art I might add), but I still can't see me droping a $300 reel in the sand, perhaps and probably because I don't fish one. I appologise to all the pinners who drop there crap in the river hahahahahaha
  7. Hey z-man even fish'in some down river drifts may pay out, lots of bows in the river now, water is good , clear wind isn't effecting to much, now is killer time
  8. I don't get it is it normal for pinners to stuff $500 reels $ $500 rods under water to get a pic, I see so many posts of use guys shoving your reels underwater or in the sand, I use a spinning reel stradic, wiskers and such and I would never think of it hitting the sand. In fact I'd rather drop a fish then let it get screwed in the sand, yet pinners have no problem droping $500 in the river for a pic , I don't get it, to each his own
  9. SUCKS...hahaahahhahha, I've had some problems you'll get worked out....still lke the site
  10. Good to fantastic, the ice boom hasn't let go yet, lots of hold over browns a steelies area around . If your new the boat ramp at queenston is fine fish the back drift out front, there will be some fish there, if you want to travel up to the power dams, ask a the dudes out there or follow they'll show you the way. It's a crazy ride somtimes the first few times you do it, but the fish'in and sweet drifts is worth it.
  11. once a worm dunker...always a worm dunker
  12. Thats a sweet set-up......Tailgateing dream kitchen. you can also run a propane hose directly to your spare tire hahahahahaha
  13. I don't care if you drive 3" on a propane filled tire, your an idiot for even doing it.Listen propane gas is a volatile substance, it's not somthing we should mess around with, one mistake can lead to an ugly outcome. If you don't beleive me, take a propane refilling course, these people are great to work with and they will open your eyes about propane, trust me I learned alot about this volatile gas. I agree it's not dangerous if you and everyone treats it properyly,it becomes dangerous when idiots misuse it to fill tires and such
  14. Gotta get'em when the suns out shinning right now...still early but if you can get out when the suns beating on you, still early season the bite will improve but you get the bigguns now.
  15. Dude I smoke, but get into accident with tires filled with propane and watch the fire ball......give me a break, your disrespect for your own safety puts others at risk, you may walk away from a accident but how about the others that got caught in the fire ball. You think it's OK, like most but dude your putting other peoples life in danger driving on propane filled tires, don't you get it smart'en up a tire&rim is not a safe propane storage area. Are you really that dense, think about it filling a tire with propane is just idiotic, I can't beleive I'm arguing about this, your a moron and this is why the government puts restrictions on propane, obviously they need to restrict it more! !!!
  16. I agree propane is safe as long as you respect the gas, filling tires with propane is stupid, just imagine an accident with a vehicle filled with propane tires. This is however is what we deal with on OFC, remember people you are dealing with this mine set, no freaking respect untill someone gets hurt or death. The government puts in alot of precautions to help us deal with idiots who have no respect for death or hurt to inocent others. Can anyone imagine getting into accident and finding out you lost your love ones because some idiot filled his tire with propane instead of air.The same thing goes with filling your 1lb cylinders at home the government does not want to deal with the fire ball or explosion that may happen, if a regulated technician is at fault so be it.The fact is the government knows how dangerous propane can be, so regulations are put in place, but we still have idiots filling there spare tires with it, I have a propane filling Licsence, have had one for 15yrs, my advice is respect the propane, learn alittle about the gas and then make you decsion
  17. Stelco awards.....let me know who wins for the most lead shoved in a chinny's belly award....Stelco fishing club hahahhahahaha
  18. There is a neighbourhood in Toronto that may debate you on how stable propane gas is. Fill a tire up with propane hahahaha.....people wonder why some people blow them selves up, that just answered my question
  19. Peter's tackle in St Catharines is having there annual Open house this weekend, there are some great deals. If your in the St Catarines area drop by they have great selection of Steelhead stuff for fishing the Niagara River, aswell as a great selection of all other tackle
  20. I have J.P Sauer 16ga double shotgun, sweetest rabit gun I ever used nice for phesants aswell. It's quick to point, beautifull balance just a joy to hunt with, they make a quality firearm.
  21. The record numbers of fish in the early 80's were abnormial in the fact they were a combination of heavily stocked fish aswell as naturals and the caused a population explosion. The population did take a drastic drop as the population had to rely on naturals, the population is leveling out now. The Ganaraska in it's current state may only be able to produce and maintain a healthy run of 5-10 thousand returns at best.
  22. I would like to add the that a 1 fish limit in New York State is only for tributary caught fish. The New York State Lake Ontario limit is 3 Rainbows, if Ontario adopts a 2 fish limit we'll be less. The LOMU right now is understanding that lowering the lake limit will have a very small impact on the fishery.Personally I tried to understand there way of thinking, but the way these guys interpert data makes your head spin. The LOMU only beleives data that is convient for there decisions should be used even if other jurisdictions have success in management of the lake. One of the biggest hurdles in the management of Lake Ontario is the LOMU,the monies spent and data collection , interpertation and such is amazing and yet we never get any answers or recomondations.Nothing concreate is ever achieved it's millions of dollars for
  23. Nice fish....lots of Brownies around this year, every trib on the South shore had strong runs and lots of stuck around.
  24. Thats not exactly true, Bronte Creek has been degraded to a point it can't support healthy populations of trout. Dams built by Golf courses to create ponds have raised the water tempertures and reduced the flows so much that the spawning beds are silted over and the river has lost it's cold water. On the bright side Bronte is said to be getting a much needed restoration. As for the Credit, I get upset when so much attention is given to this river in the way of stocking and restoration.Millions of dollars are invested in this system and yet we block the Rainbows and for that matter Salmon form reproducing. This river has the potential of being the one of, or the finest Steelhead fishery in Ontario, yet it has to be stocked and only a very few fish which have to be moved by hand ever reach the spawning sites.
  25. On the one hand the MNR wants to cut the Limits to sustain a population, on there other hand they don't want to allow Rainbow trout to reach the spawning sites needed for a selfsustaining population. They are treated as non native speceices but recently have been upgraded to desirable, if you want to increase or sustain the fishery naturally, spawning habitat must be available and needs to be the #1 priority.Cutting limits, banning roe, closing seasons and all these other band-aid solutions won't fix the problem unless the management of the spawning sites is fixed.
