I went to Sault college in 1980, like you I fished the St Mary's all the time, nice fish you got there and I use to cook them up in the residence alot since food money turned to beer money easy in those days ...If you get a chance to go north about a 1/2 hour outa a town check out the chippawa river, real sweet trib with a good pink run and a nice steelie run, we fished smaller spinners there vibrax 2 and 3 , mepps, panther martins and if you get a hen pink the roe is great for drifting.

Why does salmon have more slime and is more smelly than rainbow?
canadadude replied to a topic in General Discussion
I go with the warmer water as the biggest factor, the fish's protective slime builds up more in the warmer temps. -
Experience with using a FoodSaver to store fish
canadadude replied to Tomcat's topic in General Discussion
Never had a problem with my Food Saver.......by the good quality Food Saver Bags, use properly and yes store fish for 2yrs in the freezer. Don't understand how the sealing puts toxins in the fish unless toxins mysteriously travel backwards in a Vacume! I have 2 units one for at home and one for fish'in and hunting trips I love this unit but by a good one less expensive cheap knock-offs don't do the job! -

Simple it's the greatest fishery in the world -
My theory on why skien works so well is that the fish are teritrorial and when a bunch of eggs invades there teritory they get agressive and lash out at invading egg cluster! Skien works great for fall chinnies but it's a messy bait to deal with! I also cure it in either hot pink procure or rubby red, it's probably one of the best tactics out there for numbers of fall kings.

If your kicker has a portable gas line run the gas out of the motor and take the gas line home!! No gas! No go! that would be the easiest I would think
-
Just starting off the piers now depending on the water temp, if it's warm nothing when it cools below 60 degrees the fish come in.

I agree I've seen many a guy using car parts on there I/O engines instead of using marine grade parts. I always leave the blower going from the time I get on board, better safe then sorry

Live and learn my friend, and perhaps change your weather station the one I'm on is right 80% of the time and it was calling for North winds yesturday 20+km/h. Even with that said if I encounter 6'-7' waves there is noway in heck I'm going to continue my adventure and bringing a 3 yr old out in that crap is beyond me! I really think you should give your head a shake and instead of worrying about the weatherman learn to respect the Great Lakes alittle more. It sounds to me like your a statistic waiting to happen and unfortunatly your indangering the lives of others and whats more sad is putting a young person in harms way. You better learn to use common sense when making your decisions you are the one endangering lives being out there!

I use a Diawa 1600 ss for pier casting with 30lb power pro never been spooled. If I'm getting close I just tighten the drag down and put the boots to them. I usually turn them or the split ring goes the line never breaks but you gotta stop those big ole freight trains or kiss your line, fish and spoon goodbye. If I latch on to a big ole chinny when I'm drifting trouties I usually break them off, not into chasing big ole boots down the river.

He ended up with an $8000 cashiers cheque, not bad I'd say

Exactly right but what your describing is not only unethical but completly illegal. I know ethics come into play big time when fishing aswell as anything else in life. I'm in no postion to judge others ethics, but I will speak up and notify the authorities if I whitness illegal practices. I'm not god and I'm sure my opinions on what I may think is ethical fishing practices and what others think will probably differ. The only real position I can take is if the law is being broken then it is my duty as an angler to report it. Heck I may think someone is unethical if they whitness a crime and do nothing to report it.

Foam swimming pool noodle thingys work great, cut a piece of noodle use tooth pics to hold the leader in place wrap it around the noodle and tooth pick it back in. I use these for worm harness holders aswell.I have even used plastic water bottles in a pinch to hold leaders aswell as shot lines when steelheading. Same idea rap the leader around the bottle and hold in place with tooth pics

This is illegal you cannot party fish so if you have caught your dailly limit your not allowed to catch your partners limit aswell. You can however give your fish away to someone else, but it is still illegal for you keep anymore fish caught that day if you have already filled your catch limit. Catch limits and possesion limits are 2 different things, the dude at the camp could be well with in the law as long as he did not catch more then his limit per day of fishing. The group can keep 20 fish but each person in the group can only contribute 4 fish to the combined total.

Here's a tip to save your trebles....run the eye of the Treble onto the Siwash same manner as a trailer on a spinner bait

This is my first post so don't jump on me dudes, but you may want to go to a 1500 or 2000 style reel, as for those 20$ micro light rods there pretty sweet given the right oportunities to fish!! I use mine with 2-3lb test line drop shotting in marinas for perch! I realise there very soft so I only use them cold water situations after ice out or before ice in and I'll tell you dudes they up my catch rate 70% used in the right program. If your a Diehard percher the 20$ micro rods are sweet
