Finally got out to fish on the grand
canadadude replied to n8tivebigguy's topic in General Discussion
The closing of spring spear & dip net season has alot to do with the increase in Pike populations,no longer are the fish harassed and killed during there spring spawning rituals.Lots of Southern Ontario populations are rebounding well since areas have adopted closed seasons protecting the spawn. -
They are a Bait Holder style, to hold live minnows or leeches on a barbless hook.Another trick if using barbless hooks is to use a small piece of rubber band poked on the hook after the minnow is baited.

Onaping Lake up the 144 is a big lake 48 miles long, it does have it's rocks and shoals like any shield lake. There are downloadable maps of the Lake, there are lots of unspoiled areas in the northern section and lots of places to camp. It has good Walleye, Pike, Bass and Lake Trout in the deeper sections.

It really dosn't matter who is in the right or wrong....it's all about having alittle repect for everyone on the water. Sometimes I may be fishing a drop off on the channel and boats may be all over me, but show some respect and most do, I must say and friendly wave is given, not very often a boat blasts by me they are ussually very respectfull, I fished the Karwathaw lakes and yes alot of boat traffic but most are very polite. There are a few.....but I; ve got nothing good things to say about the kawartha's

Red hooks work on a trigger thought to fish, fish don't think, they hit bait on a trigger thought, fish are dumb they don't have the brain capacity to think,Red hooks work because they trigger a fish to hit , the fish only knows that the red hook is different and may be a predator or somthing.I beleive in using red hooks on cranks and stuff, it dosn't hurt and ussually will increase your catch, it gives that little bit of trigger, on whats catching. -
not yet, he lives around the corner from me so I see him quite often, especially now that Bass season opened up. Unfortunatly this is his busy time around here, lots of unethical poachers on the peirs now.
-
Good luck with that, I asked the local CO, he laughed and said if your in Ontario waters with 1 fish over the limit your busted, it dosn't matter how many liscenses you have.
-
sweet my NYS liscence just doubled my limits on Erie, funny though Randy my local CO dosn't see it the same way. He told me if I do that I'm busted, try fighting out in court and good luck.
-
It dosn't matter where you live,or where you caught it matters where you are when you are checked. If your in a jurisdiction that only allows a said number of fish to be your possession and you are checked in that jurisdiction if you possess over the number you will be fined. If I'm in Quebec and am allowed to possess 8 walleye great, if I come into Ontario and possess 8 Walleye I'm 4 over the limit and will be fined simple.
-
possession limits is the number you are allowed to have in your possession on hand,in cold storage,IN TRANSIT, or anywhere. Read the regs
-
If the possession limit in that FMZ is 2 while in that FMZ you can only posses 2 if your caught with 4 you will be fined. It's simple abide by the limits, Daily catch and possession for the area your in.
-
The CO is giving you wrong information, In Ontario you are only allowed to posses 4 Walleye,it dosn't matter if you have a NY state Liscence or not, it dosn't matter where the fish are caught. It's simple 4 walleye only in your possession anymore and your in violation and will be subject to fines

May be a problem with the bail, it may be bent causing the line not to load back up on the spool properly. -
NYS Fishermen Fined $1000 for fishing Canadian Waters
canadadude replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
The way it's done on the Niagara is either the Canadian MNR boat or the NYS DOF boat has a Canadian CO, and ussually a Police officer aswell as a DOF officer and a Sheriff on board. They cooperate together on the patrols and can inspect and lay charges regaurdless of the boarder. The above metioned charge is ridiculous, shame on Canada!!, as for the US boarder patrol chasing boats in Canadian waters this is a myth, don't beleive all the stories you read on the internet. If this does occure you can bet it's done with the cooperation of the Canadian authorities -
Muddy bays heat up faster then rock, mud absorbs the heat throughout the day and releases it slower at night, rock reflects the heat.Darker the mud the more heat is absorbed which in turn warms the water.Water temperature is probably the single biggest factor in finding fish in the spring, at least feeding fish.

Looking for new pike spots first week June
canadadude replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Nice answer.....anyway Lakair Lodge has lots of pike action in June, not many monsters but lots of 2-5lb snot rockets with the chance of crunching a monster. There are some bigguns around, there is also a few walleye not far from the lodge in the slot size to give you a fish fry hahahha, If your looking for good spring pike head to Deaux River on the Ottawa River, June is late for the lunkers....to be honest sept is the month for pike, but june always throws a few lunkers. -
Don't matter on OFC about fish'in techiques and such this board gets more hits on the latest CBC news and bull crap stats......is it possible for the keepers to maybe bring it back to FISHING....IT'S A FISHING SITE not a hug me/ I love you site....is it all possible to get member's into fishing and slash the lovey clique crap.
