Not bad for a blow-up from a glorified 'point and shoot'. Not great, but not bad. Still practising to find the limits it will go to.

I think there should be some leeway on this. If someone says "I was fishing below the falls in Fenelon..." how is that giving away any location that will increase pressure? Everyone and their great-aunt has fished there and will continue to. There are many locations that are already pressured and well known, and some of them continue to produce. The causeway at Mitchell lake comes to mind, or the narrows at Loughborough Lake or Dalrymple. We're hardly giving away secrets with any of those. Are we?

When I was a kid the legend was that 'they can bite through an oar!' If I recall correctly, the best they've been able to do in lab tests is put a respectable dent in a pencil. Not saying they can't give you a nasty injury, but they aren't deadly. I've removed hooks from their mouths by wedging the mouth open with a thick piece of branch, an inch diameter or more gives you room to work.

They will go for things dangling from the surface but if your whole body is in the water with them they are absolutely harmless. They invariably try to swim away as fast as they can, in fact I've never been able to get an underwater picture of them because they won't let me get close enough, they can really turn on the jets when they want to.

Dang, I was waiting to see you lip him and kiss him.

Algonquin Park - September for Brookies

Anglers lie?! Say it ain't so! -
That was going to be my reply, just about word for word (I'm on Grenoble Blvd.). We called Ontario Hydro years ago about it, they said it was mostly squirrels getting into the transformers. I told them that if that were true there wouldn't be any squirrels left in town.

I figure that if you come back from a vacation feeling as if you need a holiday to recover, you've done as much as you could, seen as much as you could, and been as many places as you could. In other words, you had a damned good time! Great pictures too!

Bombshell Turtle web site.

I don't mean to sound cynical, but something about this story just doesn't ring true for me. I hope I'm wrong.

Ontario parks web site says "Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Yellow Perch, and sunfish". Doesn't mention stocking.

Simple situation, he didn't obey the regulations. No different than someone fishing or hunting without a license, or with 3 lines in the water in the Kawarthas, fishing in a sanctuary, or all the other things we go after other people for. I have no sympathy for him. It isn't like he was in any danger from it, turtles can't exactly chase you down.

Live on a houseboat.

Since you're in Pickering I would head down to the beach on the west side of Frenchmans Bay and put it in there. You'll have a fair bit of room to practise your launch without getting in the way of other boaters, and the bay is calm and easy to putter around in.

minor rant....border crossing into USA
Dave Bailey replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
When my daughter (Darth Meagan) was about 3 we decided to take a trip across to the Niagara Falls Aquarium. We were greeted by a polite but business-like U.S. Customs man, who gave us the standard questions and a good look up and down the vehicle, and then he waved us through. Seconds after starting to roll my daughter said rather loudly "Phew, that was close!" To this day we don't know where she learned the phrase or why she said it, but we do know that if she had uttered it a few seconds earlier we would probably still be there trying to explain our way out of the situation Women are pure concentrated evil, and that goes for little girls too. They hide behind a veneer of charm, coiled and ready to strike... < appearance < reality -
Haven't had that in years, might go shopping tonight...

From someone calling themselves axe1112: Can't see this one getting any traction. There are probably cottagers on the lake with more than 40hp, what are they supposed to do?

You can if you can afford it, but I can't. I tried to set one up there once before, they wanted a few hundred bucks for liability insurance or something and they wanted me to pay employees for parking control and other stuff. Don't remember much detail other than my mind saying 'No way!' I figured I would need at least thirty boats to break even, we usually get about half that. I always hope and plan for more, but you never know how many you will have until blast-off.

Sure, all sorts of fish pictures, but where are the ones that really count? Excellent report, sounds like we'll have to get up there, haven't been in that area since before I met my wife. Was up there with my ex, but she wasn't into anything other than make-up, celebrity gossip, and keeping me away from my friends. Monica, by contrast, loves the outdoors, so we could have a great time too.

I've heard that Head Lake is a great bass fishery, never been on it myself. But I was thinking that it might make a good venue for the Gals 'n' Pals tournament, a lot of our participants have smaller boats and don't feel comfortable on larger lakes like Couchiching or Simcoe. I took a virtual drive-by on the computer, and the launch parking area off Monck Rd. seems adequate, especially with the seemingly available grassy verge on the east side. I assume the launch is free too, if it isn't that's probably no big deal. So could any of you experts give some input on this? We would need parking for at least 30 vehicles, just in case a lot more show up than normal (our largest turnout ever at Haliburton was 33). NOTE: I am NOT talking about the Head Lake in the town of Haliburton, but the one north of Balsam Lake and west of Norland.

Friend of mine had something similar happen years ago. His daughter noticed someone peeking into her basement bedroom window late one night as she was getting undressed. She shrieked, the guy ran, and my buddy called the police. They turned up, looked at the window, and then at the shoe-prints in the fresh dusting of snow, which they then followed directly back to the guy's front door less than a block away.

Nice stuff! But remind me to never shake hands with Cletus!

Took over a bunch of bags of plastic a while back from a friend, he decided he wasn't in to fishing any more. All of them were doused with anisette, and I was thinking 'what a waste of good liqueur!' I've also heard that vanilla extract is a good one. But a lot of the stuff nowadays is already impregnated so I don't want to mess up whatever is already in there.
