No problem with associations, but they should not overstep their bounds. And as far as I'm concerned they have when they do things like this.

European versions of North American fish
Dave Bailey replied to Muskieman's topic in General Discussion
Nice stuff, a shame they don't get bass though. Sounds like we have the same problem, I buy mine in the generic 42 pack and they last me maybe a month. -
It is once you get it set up correctly. The first time we were in it my father-in-law had his sailboat parked at Chimney Bay, Beausoleil Island. He picked us up at Honey Harbour to take us out, and said that he was going to have to take the boat back to the marina because it wasn't performing properly. I noticed immediately what the problem was but didn't tell him right then. I waited until we got back to the sailboat, everyone but me went aboard, and I said "Hand me that pump." They watched in shock as I did the one thing they had completely forgotten to do - inflate the bottom! It was just a bunch of loose rubber flopping around in the water creating the same drag as a brick. I also noticed that the motor was set on too much of an angle, driving the stern down which of course sent the prow high into the air. After I got it set up properly I said "Watch this", started it up gave her the juice, and took off like the proverbial chiropteran from Hades. It skims across the water almost like a hovercraft, since it's mostly air there's little weight to push, and because there's little weight it means it isn't sitting low and pushing lots of water out of the way.

If I understand correctly, that is not the point. It's about landowner A telling landowner B that they must not allow anyone to transit landowner B's property. Landowner B should tell landowner A to stick it where the Sun doesn't shine.

As I mentioned a few months back, my father-in-law sold his sailboat, and the new owner didn't need his dinghy. So we are now the owners of a 10' (I think, haven't stretched it out and measured it yet) Zodiac with an 8hp Mercury. A lightweight thing like that goes like DA BOMB! when you get her wound up, and with a really shallow draft it's almost as versatile as the canoe when it come to tight spots. Haven't quite decided if we'll try to get a trailer, might see how easy it goes on the roof. Whatever, it means that I'll hopefully be spending more time on the water, and I'll no doubt be bugging you folks even more for info!

What we need is an ultra-light, or a helicopter, on floats, they can't prevent air access.
-
Unrelated really. The owner of that property could stop access from there, but they probably have no legal right (and certainly have no moral right) to prevent other property owners from allowing anyone they wish to access the lake from their own property. That's no different from someone on my street saying that not only aren't my guests allowed to park in his driveway, but they aren't even allowed to park in front of my property. Total Bull, and I hope the person throwing their weight around is trimmed a bit.

Yup, it is.

I used to think that ice fishing was nothing but beer, dirty jokes, and flatulence. Then I thought, "What's the downside of that?" But I still can't get over the cold problem.
-
Is it spring yet? Please? Sorry, as a good and loyal Canadian I should be enjoying ice fishing, but I simply can't. A run-in with some bad water many years ago has left me with irritable bowel syndrome, which is getting worse as I get older. A number of things set it off, and one of them is cold. A cold draft across my abdomen can have me running for the nearest solid waste disposal facility within moments, and I'm popping Imodium like Smarties. And I'm sure you know what it's like to try to unencumber yourself from a dozen layers of winter clothing in order to have the required sit-down. So is there anyone else out there who is in the He-Man Winter Haters Club? Those who will stand proud and say 'TO HELL WITH WINTER, KILL IT AND BURY IT! REAL MEN DEMAND SCORCHING HEAT! AND OPEN WATER!' I'm not a wimp. Honest...

Which fishing year would you consider to be your very best?
Dave Bailey replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
Believe it or not, 1965. I've caught more and bigger fish since then, but '65 was magical. A friend of my father's had a cottage near White River, and we got it for a week. To a 12 year-old it was heaven, and I got ton's o' bass, my first pike ever, and just generally had a blast. -

Isn't that illegal?

Those who only target walleye will never experience the greatest thrill in fishing - watching and feeling the smash of a topwater strike. Walleye may be tastier, trout may take skill, but seeing that very visible indication of the upcoming fight is a massive rush.

Could this be Gold......Updated
Dave Bailey replied to Whitespinnerbait's topic in General Discussion
Just checked the local figures. For this season the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch in Whitby had 2 golden eagles, the High Park watch in Toronto had 11, and the Iroquois Shoreline watch near Brooklin had 32. The Holiday Beach Migration Observatory in extreme southwestern Ontario, the area many raptors would funnel into before crossing the border, had a season total of 119. -
A guy just a few blocks from us even has his own web site, Wright's Lights. There's 3 houses together on that street who go all-out, they can probably be seen from the space station. They collect for food banks, if you go to see them take some cans.

Dave Bailey replied to Whitespinnerbait's topic in General Discussion
I believe the upper one is a golden. If I recall correctly the bill of the bald eagle is yellow in the first year, can't remember for certain though. There are quite a few in Ontario, mostly in the far north. Can't remember how many were seen on the local fall hawk watches this year. -
OFAH comes on board with the Cobourg Harbour fishing
Dave Bailey replied to Ron's topic in General Discussion
?! If anything, there's a good reason for having a day when we all go out and fish, publicity! What we need is a ruling that we can print out and carry with us, so that if Goderich or any other municipality tries to run us out we can show them the law and tell them that they can take a flying leap. We need to get this issue resolved once and for all, province-wide. The legal ruling we seek shouldn't just deal with Cobourg, but all of Ontario. -
That's how northerners do it? I thought they cut a 50 foot slot in the ice so that they could cast. Oh hell, where can I hide?

Excellent news Ron, get some more muscle, and some with experience too! The more I think about it the more I can't understand the town's actions. If there is a problem with littering, then charge people for that. If they are hitting moored boats with fishing tackle and causing damage, charge them for that. If they are sitting there getting drunk, charge them for that. But why prevent people from legally fishing if they aren't causing a problem? -
I can remember, back in the 70s, tooling around Cameron Lake and there was a houseboat on there fitted out like a chipwagon, with the normal fast foods such as hot dogs and burgers, fries, ice cream, etc. I even have an old Super 8mm movie of it. It just went around the area, maybe through some locks too, and boaters could pull up and get themselves a snack or a meal right on the water. Just wondering if it's still out there, or if there are any others. Actually, as I get older I'm thinking a floating washroom might be a good idea too!

Yeah, whoever was leading that platoon was really on the ball, they honoured the boy in return.
