  1. Might help you if you just practice making short pitches first to get your thumb timing down pat.Hold the rod at 10:00 with about 4' of line out,hit and hold release bar/line,now gentley get the bait swinging by bringing the rod up to 12:00 and back down, when the bait is swinging away from you let it go.Once you can do this well a side arm cast should be pretty easy.
  2. Both good,take your pick.
  3. As long as it's just gel wear and not down to the glass mat (look closely and make SURE you don't see glass matting) you won't get any water intrusion and don't need to touch it up,just apply the guard over it.
  4. $300 Albert, that is a pretty standard rate for what your doing.
  5. I think the point Muskygreenhorn is making is that once the money goes to BPS it no longer circulates within the community (he's referring to area in the outlying GTA I believe).I agree with you JP BPS does do alot of good things and yes having a shop where I'm located I do lose business to them but I don't begrudge them or my customers that shop there (95% do at some point),people work for their money and if BPS has a deal that saves them dough then hell I tell em you better jump on it lol, we don't live in a vacume, there is always competition. Now with Walmart because they park there stores right in many smaller communities I do have issues with their business model. They suck money out and all that remains to circulate is the minimum wage they pay.My 18yr old out of the blue started telling me he didn't like Walmart because of the negative effects it has on small towns, blew me away that he had on his own grasped the whole idea of capital moving around ie. Joe pays me to fix his house and I pay Ed to fix my car etc.,if too many business's suffer in sales Joe can't pay me so poor Ed loses because I have to fix the car myself and it goes on like a wave. There are small towns in the US that ended up ghost towns because once too many people lost thier jobs due to the ripple effect and had no money Walmart pulled out due too poor sales, leaving no jobs never mind minimum wage.Muskygreenhorn is a great customer of mine and I am thankful that he supports my business.Go easy on him guys,he's just expressing his social conscience with concern for his community.
  6. It is not the same line, leader material will not spool very well, mainline flouro is softer but not nearly as abrasive resistant.Take a piece of each and run it across something abrasive and see what happens.
  7. If you get bibs make sure you can easily have a leak:)
  8. Greg I think you have missed the fact that ice fishing and it's impact on the fishery were taken into account when the studies were done that were used to set new limits, the limits used to be higher on sunfish without the 7" restriction. The MNR has set limits they feel will protect the fishery and allow for ice fishing at the same time, very progressive thinking on their part,it's good to see they are following the US's lead in setting limits based on the ecosystem in question VS the old province wide blanket regs.
  9. This is getting very muddled. The readers digest of it all is simple,a special interest group is trying to change public policy concerning a public resource for it's own benefit. The policy was arrived at based a degree of science/study,I have yet to see any such validated science/data put forth by the rlta that supports their postition and justifies the change(s) they desire.I fish there often and have rented cabins and do spend a few $'s while visiting and feel for the hit the resorts have taken as I've seen a few go under and low occupancies etc. but I'm sorry you as a group are still a whisper among the many voices of groups/people that should have a legitimate say in Rice lakes future.
  10. Hehehehehehehe, the Maple Loafs reputation preceeds itself again!!!! LMAO
  11. Mustad makes a replacement hook but size 1 is the popular size and there is zero stock of these available right now,Mustad is out.
  12. It looks like it broke a reed or has a broken ring Albert,1 new piston and a head minimum, likely a sleeve and re-ring em all.Your looking at a few $'s bud.
  13. They are a super sweet rod,I don't know of a rod under $200 that is even close to them, yup not even a crucial will touch it and I can fish any rod I want yet will have one of these in my hand this season for sure w/ a Revo Premier.
  14. Garney we gotta stop agreeing so much ,if your running alot of electronics off your cranking battery a 3 bank would be a good idea, even running livewells can run it down and if you have a dfi engine then 100% you want a 3 bank or it's just a matter of time before your stranded because they need a big draw to turn over.
  15. Albert as much as you want a nice setup,if it was mine I'd be looking at taking care of the basics like carpet, seats, wiring, steering cable,GC seals and do the glass work myself (don't worry about it being factory perfect) while spending as little as possible (under 1k for above if do it yourself) and enjoy the boat. It's not worth putting anymore into it as your investment would far exceed it's value when done.Just use it till the bugs bites for a bigger boat cause it will lol.
  16. I'm with you Roy,what do people expect?? How is the tackle over priced???? is it more expensive than your local guy??? No it's not and as far as deals they were everywhere if you looked.People need to realize it's a show not a GARAGE SALE!!,every dealer discounts some stuff but after they spend thousands before making a single sale to be there should they sell everything at cost????? I think the idea/benefit of having a show is as mentioned regarding boats, you see everthing under one roof, many people don't have huge shops near them and you can't order one of these and two of those from 10 different websites without paying a fortune in shipping. As Garnet said with free parking I'd call $14 pretty cheap.
  17. Bonjour TJ, I see you have been emailing a bit with my boss at Hirk`s Fishing & Marine. I will be helping him at the show everyday and I`m looking forward to seeing you when you drop by.Are you bringing Tookie with you? Take care & see you in a few days.... Best regards, Jean Robitaille
  18. One point nobody has touched on is how important lense quality really is.High optic quality means less/no eye strain and if you fish often you owe it too your eyes to wear good optic lenses (you only have 1 set of eyes).Maui's are the cream as far as optic quality, have been told by several optometrists.
  19. "If" it is lower unit oil ( I bet it's fogging oil though) you as Irish said can fix it with a seal,as long as your gears are good and shaft is straight no reason to replace it bud.Take it to a MM for a complete seal kit cost you approx. $180 installed?
  20. Here's the skinny,if your right handed you have better fine motor muscle control therefore it's more comfortable to turn the handle with your right hand (spinning reels are an exception to this due to a larger turning radius making it easier for your clunky hand). The other issue is as Gary says is your grip, you want to fish a baitcaster in your hand, not behind the reel yet you have to be behind it in order to feather the spool when casting. This issue has been addressed with the drop gear low profile baitcasters now allowing you to move up on it and palm it with one hand after casting so if you fishing a bait with the rod primarily such as when you pitch a righty can use a baitcaster comfortably, not so much so for fishing on the reel though as in cranks, spinnerbaits etc. because of the clunky hand issue.Clear as mud right?? lol FTRecord, right handed golf left bat left hockey left guns right throw left spinning left casting right
  21. #1208 TJ, near the seminar area,I'll have a sign up top, wear the hat so I recognize you .
  22. The retail space is all booked up,I was on a waiting list.As far as manufactures are concerned I think other than the odd "they aren't coming" due too politics relating to the sportsman show there will be good representation by them.So don't buy into the rumor bud.
  23. Dirk I would guess it will be a better show this yr. than last if for nothing else but because the sportsman show has moved to a new venue, the sportsman show is the "jack of all trades master of none" as far as shows go.The fishing show focus is more on seminars and showing new products, there are some deals but retailers can't pay huge floor space costs and then give everything away either.
  24. Mike I have that rod, there are a few other's I'd suggest you look at for what you want it for that would be very nice as well.Stop in anytime I would enjoy talking bass with you (that's what I do) because you are so jacked about the whole thing, more than anyone else on this site I think.Thank's for recommending me guys.
  25. Vance, stop by my booth,I'll have a few deals you might like
