  1. Wow, who'd of thought! Commercially harvesting goldfish for the table! Thanks for posting that Ohio. Fascinating. I was especially fascinated by the Michigan Biologist who said; I think most purists and biologists would prefer not to have them as part of the wild environment, but I'm not sure they meet the classification of harmful," said Goniea. For that reason, they aren't, per se, "invasive." Here in Hamilton( Lake Ontario ), they've been pretty much demonized. lol
  2. Just saw an article in the Hamilton Spectator last week that said there have been several catches of Tilapia in Hammy Harbour as well as a Chinese Crab and this catfish found in the aquarium trade. Not just reproduction to be concerned with but the transfer of diseases to native species.
  3. That's unbelievable about Burbot in Erie. I know a few people catch 'em icefishing on Lake Simcoe up here, but I've never heard of one being caught in Erie. You certainly don't think of Erie for Burbot, anyway. Man, I gotta get out more!
  4. Hey, the Harbour is clean now and everything's great.
  5. Here's a Hamilton Harbour shot I took at sunrise yesterday. Talk about red sky in morning. Well, I hope sailors took warning because the sky opened up around 2 in the afternoon with wind and rain that made it look like the world was ending!! PS...Gorgeous Simcoe Lakers there Brian!
  6. That's really exciting news Ohio. I love when efforts are made to repopulate our waters with native species, especially ancient ones like sturgeon. I've never ever seen a sturgeon in the wild in my life!
  7. Definitely a productive time of year, wantabigone, but not at the spots you fished earlier in the season. Those springs spots( like river and creek mouths as examples )may have worked in May and June are usually void of fish by now. I find that deeper waters that have finally warmed up to the carps liking at this time of year can hold fish, and hungry ones! Good hunting!
  8. Earlier this year, I was carp fishing along a quiet shore of Hammy Harbour. All of a sudden, around the wooded shoreline comes a dozen, then a hundred, then thousands of cormorants. I'd had never seen such a big migration of the birds, and they all began landing and settling down right in front of me. After I got over the spectacle before me, I got up, moved towards the water and waved my net over my head frantically. This seemed to spook a few, then more, and then in unison, thousands of them took off like they were never there. Quite something to witness.
  9. Wow. I can't imagine why anyone would even think that's a good idea to do. You shake your head.
  10. Some nice ones there, Kokemachine. And good work on the videos, particularly your animations. You definitely get across the point that carp fishing is fun! Cheers!
  11. What an awesome trip ckewley and a great report for all of us to enjoy too. Fabulous photos by your better half too. They really capture the 'big country' out there. Brilliant!
  12. Hey Adam, good luck exploring. I wouldn't go by anything you find on Hook and Bullet, though. I dunno where those reports come from but the species are usually waaaaaaaaay off.
  13. Very true! Things have really turned 180 degrees since the "Charles Wang era" in New York.
  14. If anyone can make Tavares stay in New York it will be Lou Lamarillo. I bet that's one of the reasons why he was hired.
  15. Careful Kev. Hook into one of those big girls and you might get hooked too. lol
  16. All sales final would be the final time I visit. Many products today are poorly made, and a store that won't stand behind 'em is not worth the potential headaches down the road. Buh bye..
  17. I think the walleye fishery will be safe in the harbour. Of course, some people will consume the fish, but I'm betting the vast majority won't. Also, it's not a shore fishery so most will need a boat to fish walleye. I believe eating fish out of the harbour is a big mistake. The toxic Randle Reef, especially now that's it's being disturbed as it's being capped, as well as the old Woodward water treatment plant spewing into the contained harbour and toxic algea bloom every summer are just a few of the reasons. Also, people who choose to windsurf in the harbour do so at their own risk, me thinks.
  18. I used to enjoy walking out to drill a few holes for perch on Cook's Bay every Christmas Day. Mind you, that's years ago when our winters used to be colder and more stable. Anyhoo, it used to be me and a bunch of Russians and other ethnic fellows who celebrate Christmas on January 7th.
  19. Growing up in Hamilton in the 70s and 80s, anyone who thought that we could have a walleye fishery in the harbour would have been considered delusional. A walleye was a fish you had to travel north for. But here they are. Wow.
  20. Lots of blue/green algae in Hamilton Harbour as well unfortunately. It's kept me away from carp fishing the harbour for weeks now. I just don't like to play around the water there when it can make you sick if you're not careful. (
  21. Shhhhhhh...listen....... It's the sound of Sens fans planning a parade route! ( Actually, it wouldn't matter which route they picked 'cuz no one will show anyway )
  22. To get rid of the 'muddy' taste on some fish, try cutting out that dark area of meat along the lateral line of the fillet.
  23. It's a craft flown by the government to read people's minds. I just knew they existed!
  24. I don't think the Cats problem is the coach, Old Ironmaker. I think it has more to do with not knowing who all these new players are? I've never heard of most of these guys. And as mentioned before, the guys you HAVE heard of are all playing great on other teams. lol
  25. I actually prefer watching the CFL game over the NFL. With less downs, more is at stake on each play. Also with CFL, the game is never over, unless of course it's 60-1 ( lol ).
