Thanks to Robert in the Fishing department at BPS - Vaughan. This past March I purchase via BPS on line a Shimano Tekota 500 LC trolling reel. Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to use it (other than spooling it up a month or so ago) and wouldn't you know the darn thing malfunctions. The free spool lever wouldn't disengage. Try as I might (short of breaking the lever off) I couldn't get it to work. So - call BPS up and explained the problem and the fact that I wanted it available for my trip at the end of this week. The lady explained that they only really provide exchange for the first month - after that I should contact the manufacturer and work with them re: warranty work. That wasn't what I wanted - as far as I was concerned the reel was brand new and broke on its first use and I wanted it exchanged at one of there stores. She suggested I contact the store before going there - sometimes they don't like to do exchanges for merchandise bought via BPS on line and if they refused to call back to see what they could work out. I contacted Robert in their fishing department and after I explained my situation he asked me to hold while he checked to see if they had that reel in stock. Lucky for me they had one left. He told me he'd help me out and would set it aside for me. 2 hour drive later I'm there and Robert brings my reel to the customer service department - and in 10 minutes I'm out the door with a replacement. Needless to say I'm very happy (not so impressed with what I thought was one of Shimano's better reels though - $200 and right out of the box it craps out on me ?). I thought I would share a good news story !

there's plenty on there I don't enjoy, but I don't mind pvr'ing and watching on my time - and skip the commercials (i mean the ones between the info-mercials). Bottom line I enjoy the sport - can't get out as much as I'd like and sometimes this is a next best option. with that said I like watching curling too !!

Somebody has to pay the astronomical salaries some of these hospital administrators get paid (i almost said earn). And then when they screw up and get the boot another pot of money !! All aboard the gravy train !!

I upgraded last year from a 12 volt 55 lb thrust MK to a 24 volt 80 lb thrust MK (Terrova). Amazing difference with power to spare (17.5 ft crestliner). If there's any way you can get up to the 24 volt system I would highly recommend it. You would have all the power you needed then for those windy days or weedy bays.

going back to O'Sullivan's rainbow on O'sullivan lake for the 2nd time. This camp is just outside of Nakina also. It's a drive to camp that Mike B suggested to me last year and after spending a week there my wife and I decided we needed another week this year !! then the rest of the season will be on Lake Erie for perch, walleye and steel head. maybe take a side trip to LSC and/or rice lake depending on time.

do your homework. KNow what you want. find out what the place is worth (not what they're asking). get your financing in place and know your limits before you go looking. location, location, location. HOME INSPECTION - and not from an inspector referred to you by your real estate agent (esp if the agent is working for the seller too !!). don't be afraid to walk away.

Thanks Wayne - that's kinda what I figured. I've got the seat off and the lever doesn't even touch the screw any more. The sleeve the screw fits into moves up and down when I pull it - but there's obviously no more pressure/compression in it. Guess I'll have to do some shopping to replace it !

I've got one of these springfield gas pedestals on the casting deck of my boat. It's got a "banana seat" on the end of it and the unit is designed to adjust hight using a lever on the top of the unit. the unit would rise and fall as you lift or depress the handle (gas powered?). It would seem that the one I have (came with the boat - minimum 5-6 years old) has lost its gas/compression - it no longer rises and when you pull the end up it just falls back down. I'm guessing it's lost its gas somehow - probably a seal is gone. Does anyone know if these are repairable / rechargeable or does the entire unit need to be replaced ?
