  1. why not offer to do the demo yourself ? might save some $'s that way ? and lets' face it, if you're anything like me - ripping stuff out is a lot easier that putting it back together.
  2. Thanks very much for sharing. Most of us have nothing to complain about compared to what people like that young lady takes on !! You must be very proud !
  3. Now that's a darn nice lookin rig - I'm going to have to get me some of them !! thanks for sharing
  4. I'm about to do the annual winterizing. Up until now I've always gone to the trouble of taking the trolling motor and cranking battery out of the boat (after putting a good charge on them) and putting them in the cold room of my basement. But I'm now wondering whether it's worth the trouble. I store my boat in an unheated barn and I'm not worried about someone stealing the batteries. I was thinking I should leave them in the boat and once or twice during the winter plug the on-board charger in to top them up. It sure is a bother unhooking these things and dragging them indoors - esp now that I have 3 batteries to deal with (24 volt system on the trolling motor). I'm in southwestern ontario (london) so it's not like I'm dealing with artic winters. What do the members on this board do - leave them in or take them out ?
  5. I would support lower catch and possession limits - but more importantly I would support more and better enforcement of our existing limits/rules. As someone said earlier - unfortunately some people can't be trusted to do anything by the book - take a limit, put it in the car and go back and start again ??? Those kind of folks should be fined, have their equipment taken away and be banned from the sport !! But we need enforcement.
  6. That's a fancy looking rig there Lew. I'm sure you'll be happy in that one. Somebody's going to pick up a nice, used red 2010 in great shape too !!
  7. Thanks again for taking us with you on your trip. Great way to spend a rainy, cold Saturday afternoon reading thru your posts.
  8. I added a few pic's from our visit to the park last weekend - some from booth's rock trail. enjoy
  9. We got out on the booth's rock trail last weekend. scenery was spectacular !! here's a few pics
  10. thanks guys - looks like I'll wait another week. weather isn't supposed to be so good this weekend anyways. I was just a bit worried about things happening too fast/early (season for just about everything is early and short this year).
  11. My wife and I are planning to spend the weekend in huntsville this weekend and hope to take a drive/hike through parts of algonquin or arrowehead provincial park. According to the ontario parks website the colors are just nicely getting started (40-45% color changed). I know there's people on this board from that area - will this weekend (sept 22) be too early ? or should I wait another week and go the weekend of the 29th ? Any first hand knoweldge /current condition info would be much appreciated. Thanks
  12. Wonderful account of an obviously amazing trip. Roy and several others used words like jealous & envy - but the only thing I can feel right now is awe ! What a fantastic adventure this must have been. Obviously something you'll never forget and frankly sharing this with us gives us all a bit of a taste of what it must have been like. Thank you so much for sharing and spending the time to do so. It is much appreciated !!
  13. thanks for some great info - i've got more homework to do !!
  14. I'm not much of a photography person - but I like to take pictures every now and then of special events, people and places. I use a simple point and shoot - canon powershot A720 IS and it's served me well. I also like to try and shoot a bit of video every now and then and this camera really doesn't do that well. I'd like to find a camera that does things well, doesn't require a college education to learn to operate or a mortgage on my house to purchase Recently I've come across digital cameras that are somewhere between the unit I own and a more complicated SLR type camera. Not sure what they call themselves but an example is the Nikon cool ix P510/canon sx40HS and the panasonic FZ150. They're all in the $350 range +/- and all appear to have decent zoom + video capabilities without having to have a bunch of different lenses or a separate movie camera. As far as videos are concerned I'm not looking to produce motion pictures - just short clips every now and then. I know there are some camera people on this site and I wondered if any have any experience with these units ( Good or bad ) . Thanks.
  15. looking to do some rainbow on the grill. Anyone have any good ideas they 'd like to share ? I was thinking of trying the cedar plank thing - but I've never done it before - are they any tricks to doing it right ? thanks for all the input
  16. long point's a great place - been there many times as a kid and later as an adult also. early in the bass season pitch a tent in the park and you're at the launch in the bay at 5 am easy-peasy. Unfortunately I'm sure you're aware of the area's notoriety for deer ticks and the undertow that lake erie is famous for. I'm already looking forward to your report on your trip north !
  17. take the money it would cost you to move and put in a pool !!
  18. glad to hear you're ok. did that thing have a roll bar on it or were you in a cab ?
  19. fantastic report. great reading. thanks for sharing !
  20. an inspiration to all !
  21. Yes they do Ron - but the sound is hardly noticeable.
  22. Just a quick report and thanks to solo-paddler for recommending this drive to camp. My wife and I just returned from a week at O'sullivan's lake. After our 1500km drive (but it was worth it) We stayed at the O'sullivan's rainbow camp. The camp was great. Camp owners Bob & Shelly Richards and their staff were very accommodating. The camp and cabins were functional, clean and had everything we needed, yet it was quaint enough to fit into the remoteness of O'sullivan Lake. The lake is large - and during my stay I only got to explore about a third of the lake - mainly because I found all the fishing spots I needed, and I preferred to fish vs explore. Walleye fishing was fantastic. I caught more than enough walleye I to satisfy me. Other anglers at the camp pursued lake trout and pike, and a short trip into a back lake in the area by one of my camp neighbours resulted in limits of brook and rainbow trout. Loons and eagles entertained us during our stay (never missed the phone, internet or tv !!). All in all a fantastic trip and we very much look forward to returning. And again - thanks to Mike for putting us onto this lake and Camp. Relaxing on the dock Sunrise One of many eyes Our home for the week Dinner - steak and walleye !
  23. Some really great suggestions - thanks people !!
  24. I'm looking to buy a new knife. I've got my old rapala wooden handle but I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind spending a bit more to get a bit more quality. Of course I'm not talking about going nuts - some of these $200 knives look nice - but even the sales person says this isn't something you should take with you to the cottage or the boat. Anybody have a recommendation on a mid-good quality knife ? .... or should I just go spend a few bucks on my old knife and get a new edge on it ?
  25. I'm no historian, but from what I can gather there was a big difference between WWII and what occurred in Vietnam. I have all the respect in the world for the fine men and women who served in WWI and II (and Korea, Vietnam, Irag, etc etc etc) and I thank the good Lord for everyone of them ! With that said, it makes me sad to think what horror people can inflict on each other. And I think the memorial to the Vietnam vets is a fantastic tribute to their sacrifice.
