  1. thanks Jigger... I won't be out this weekend- the youngest has her soccer final tourney... how about you ?
  2. ...a crapload in their pants?
  3. I managed to get out on Wednesday to play with the smallies. With the cool nights (down to under 50 degrees where we are) the water temps were down below 70. Topwater, lipless cranks and dropshot soft plastic minnows all produced fish-nothing gigantic but some decent 18 & 19 inchers.
  4. bow mount electric for me...curious what speed are you guys generally running when fishing for 'eyes?
  5. Had the same problem once-hairline crack in the insulator of one of the plugs.
  6. awesome-where did you launch?
  7. I leave the winch strap attached until the stern is over water, then unhook it and tie the long bow line to the trailer. Back the rest of the way in, stop quickly and the boat slides off. Once the bow line tightens, slowly pull back up a bit and the boat comes back to the base of the ramp.
  8. Long Point is one of the best beaches in Ontario..love the place
  9. that seems to be the Haliburton theme this year...topwater has been the best for me this year as it seems you need to annoy them into striking
  10. haliburton whenever possible

  11. yep worms with a slip float
  12. I was out last weekend, and the fish are still playing hard-to-get (or at least harder-to-get than usual). The bigger smallies seemed to want topwater baits and tubes twitched just below the surface while only the smaller ones were interested in drop-shot presentations. Fish were mainly coming from 12-20 fow on the edge of sand-weed transitions and drops to deep water. I didn't boat any giants; here's a typical fish.
  13. I also use a high-tech piece of 2x6...I consulted with my cousin who worked for OMC and ran all the update courses for marine mechanics. He's also designed and built boats. His opinion was that the 2x6 distributed the shock and kept the motor off the tilt/trim hydraulics, and there was no need to go with a transom saver.
  14. how did it go...I couldn't swing a trip up
  15. nice fish, Will...how ya been keeping?
  16. that was awesome-thanks for sharing..I've only ever had a snapper go after a stringer
  17. I've had great treatment there as well. Had the side plate come off a few-month old BPS baitcaster and fall into the drink. Called the store from Haliburton (home is in Hamilton where the receipt was) and they said no problem, bring it in on the way home and we'll replace it by looking up the transaction through the credit card record. When I went into the store, the clerk at the service desk looked up the transaction, called a guy at the fishing counter, asked me what pound test and he brought a new reel to the service desk, spooled with line.
  18. Hey happy birthday!!
  19. Over the winter I used the general email submission on the MNR website to report a tagged fish (I identified the species, length, tag #, lake & county in the message) and it was forwarded to the appropriate regional office as I got a follow-up directly from a staff biologist who asked further details.
  20. Great report and glad to see the persistence (and expertise) paid off. Look forward to seeing you out on the lake again
  21. shhhhhhh is definitely the word lol
  22. I went lakerless, but had to head back home for family dinner Saturday, so I was off the water by noon to pack up and go south. How'd you end up doing-did the water warm up at all over the weekend? I'll try not to sneak up on you with that quiet motor next time!
  23. I made a quick trip north looking for lake trout (and to give the boat a run) on Fri, but hooked into this instead. I marked fish at bottom on a slope at about 65' and figured they were lake trout or whitefish & dropped down a jigging rap...needless to say this was a bit surprising especially since I've never seen or heard of a walleye on this lake. It measured just over 18" and was released to swim another day.
  24. I've been very happy with my Misty
