  1. Could/would you share where this guy is or how to contact him? Stoney Creek is close for me. Thanks
  2. pretty much all the Gull watershed lakes are at record high levels upstream of Minden...the Parks Canada site has maps that link to all the dam sites and give current water level readings at the dams compared to historic low and high levels-many have gone right off the top of the scale or are above the historic high water recordings http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern/visit/ne-wl/trent_e.asp
  3. be careful on the water as there will likely be way more floating hazards than usual in the spring with the crazy high water levels...lots of stuff washed & floated into the lakes
  4. based on the number of suckers that were lifted over the barrier last week, the run is on
  5. me too!...Please let us know how those winds do!
  6. yes, thanks & please update if you can...ice out lakers are a spring ritual
  7. Curious if anyone can provide Minden Haliburton updates?
  8. some 'bows have been moved through the carp barrier into Cootes
  9. Will, glad to see you've been out...got me beat that's for sure! Nice brown!
  10. if you have a minute, please post a report when it starts to go...our place is over Carnarvon way and I'm trying to plan some early season laker fishing
  11. anyone been on the Highway 35 corridor between Minden & Dorset? wondered if there's any progress on the ice out there...
  12. I've owned a 2002 Suzuki DF40 for 8 years now and have found it incredibly reliable, and the routine maintenance is easy. The issue of dealerships hasn't been one for me as Northland Marine in Carnarvon near Minden is a Suzuki spot. The other advantage is that Suzuki made 4 strokes painted and labelled as Johnson back in '02, so I've been able to get oil filters etc from Bombardier shops.
  13. Sweet, looks like an Easter trip to the cottage is in order-thanks!
  14. Based on what I've been reading, and the weather forecast for the week, I'm hoping there will still be some ice fishing on the Easter weekend in the Minden/Carnarvon/Dorset corridor. Any updates on the ice conditions would be much appreciated.
  15. I have a 2002 Suzuki DF40 which is the same base engine, and have no regrets in the purchase. Parts (I've only ever needed replacement filters and drain plug gaskets) have been easy since Suzuki was building the Johnson branded engines of the same size in 2002. Also, more dealers are now available as fish_fishburn said. This engine always starts, is super quiet and is nice on the fuel consumption.
  16. It was tough sledding but 4 of us went out yesterday. Lots of perch with steady action all day except for one 10 minute lull-we never had to move. Fish were hitting on minnows, small jigging spoons and jigging raps; I kept a dozen decent ones for dinner.
  17. guys please be reasonable & respectful on the harvest levels of these smaller lakes
  18. Depending on the vehicle, it's often possible to get bungees of the appropriate length clipped into the trim of the roof liner. You can then slide the rods through (rotate so the guides point to the side), and they're up and out of the way. No worries about rod tips getting closed in the door or someone bending a guide.
  19. please keep me up to date...hoping to be up after New Years !
  20. I too carried out the sad ritual of winterizing today...the only good news is the Haliburton nights are below freezing all week, so with any luck there will be safe ice for the January laker opener!
  21. thanks Jigger... I won't be out this weekend- the youngest has her soccer final tourney... how about you ?
