Yep, Seen a very similar ad on Craigslist back in July. Can't these people be prosecuted? Fraud is still a crime is it not?

I use to hunt ducks and geese years ago...
Rattletrap2 replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
Gord, A few years ago, I was fishing in the swampy area just South of the boat canal with a Buddy and his young son. We had just noticed some decoys and even a few motorized ones bobbing around with a few real geese, when all of a sudden three yahoos come blasting their way into the area in a 12 foot tinny. The boat was still under full power when they all started shooting horizontally across the water!! I couldn't believe it! If anyone had of been on the other side of some tall rice there, they would have been shot! That was enough to keep me out of that area! I hardly ever fished in there anyways, but never after that during hunting season! Sportsmen, huh? LOL -
Does anyone recall a number of years back when the City of Toronto slaughtered something like 2,000 Canada Geese along the waterfront in their idea to feed the homeless and clean up their waterfront? Only after they had 2,000 dead geese on their hands, did someone decide to test the meat! It was found to be unfit for human consumption! These are not migratory birds that feed on grains. They eat crap along the waterfront and reside here all year round. Their food and water sources are polluted.
-
Yep, 4 pounds of crap, per bird, per day! The kids will love playing in the yard! NOT!

RUN Forest, Run! I don't have personal experience with them other than one similar to what you experienced! I wouldn't let it go any further than that one annoying conversation I had with them on the phone.

I bought mine at TSC also. There is a store in Alliston if you need to buy one. Raccoons are filthy animals, that left to do their thing, will create a real mess! Once they have a litter of Kits, look out. They will use the same spot as a latrine and it is full of bacteria and toxic stuff. Bait the traps with oranges or pretty much anything, and they will come! Good luck!
-
Gord, Good on ya for taking action on this! I met a young CO on the lake quite a few years back that was a real decent hard working guy. I wonder if it is the same guy. He had dark hair and used his own legend boat if I recall?

There is this one online as well! My link

This is a link to print out a petition that must be signed and returned to David Tilson's (Federal MPP) office. I know it is not the same as an online version, but if you guys could help out by printing this out and collecting some signatures, I would appreciate it. The Provincial Government has allowed for an Environmental Assessment, but we need the Feds to do the same and work together. My link

Sorry for your loss John! I always enjoyed hearing the stories from my Wife's Grandfather about WW1. I had heard most of them several times, but he had earned the right to tell them as often as he pleased. I'm sure your neighbour was a good man, and probably had many memories of WW2, whether or not he chose to recant them.

Very nice work Randy! Did you ask him to get a neutral (or white) coloured siding so you can do the full colour version on a nicer background LOL -
Gord, So far only the Green party has come forward and said hey oppose this. The others are sitting on the fence! There is suposed to be a message delivered by the Liberal party today. We shall see what they say! Linda Jeffery (MNR) blew off the Mayor of Melancthon with a very flippant response, so I wouldn't expect much from her.

Wow, this was not even remotely funny! I can't believe someone on this board would make a comment like this! Of course I also couldn't imagine anyone doing what is proposed either, and getting away with it.

Hey folks! I think this topic is very fishing related as it has the potential to affect many of the rivers we hold near and dear. As you may have heard, a Multi-Billion dollar Boston based hedge fund is behind a company called "The Highland Group" that is proposing to dig a quarry up our way that will be over 200 feet deep (Deeper than Niagara Falls)and consume over 2,300 acres of the best farm land imaginable! They also have their eye on another 5,000 acres that won't be hard to obtain once they destroy the other 2,300! They secretly bought up peoples farms under the pretence that they would farm potatoes on this land. Not so! If this project goes ahead, it could effect the source waters of this whole area including the beginnings of 5 major rivers including The Saugeen, Pine, Nottawasaga, & Credit rivers. They plan to pump over 600,000,000 litres of water a day. The aggregate is destined for the US and China via rail to the shipping port in Owen Sound! They plan to blast 6 days a week with over 7,200 trucks per year hauling this stuff! It would be the largest in Canada and second largest in North America. This kind of thing disgusts me! There is a planned event on October 16th to raise awareness and funds to continue the fight. We cannot just sit idle while they destroy this planet! My link Over 70 of Canada's top chefs will volunteer to prepare food from our land and serve it to as many people as possible. The event will take place on the farms that did not sell out, and that surround this proposed site. All they ask, is for a donation of whatever you can afford. Please do what you can to help out. It will effect a lot more than the people of this area! Thanks! My link

Very nice Randy! Pretty good fishing for only an hour! That is the way I have always cleaned my fish as well. I was taught by a relative of my Wife that lived in North Bay, but we were fishing at their camp on Temiskaming. It was one of those lessons that has stuck with me for many, many years. What about the cheeks? Ya gotta get them too!
-
Joey, That is one fantastic report! The pictures are all awesome, but the wildlife shots and particularly the birds are really cool! Well done!
-
Very cool Terry! Do you believe the old adage that 90% of the fish live in 10% of the water? I sure do! I spend more time watching the fish these days than I do fishing for them!

I was there last week and we stayed at the Flamingo. The room was reasonable, but everything else was expensive! IF I was to stay in this hotel again, I would insist on one of the renovated rooms. Ours was clean enough and comfortable, but a little dated. The carpets are in need of changing. They are redoing all the rooms and we just happened to get an older one. Things have changed a lot since we went there last. 11 years ago, food was cheap. Today, the food is way over priced. A glass of orange juice is $6. a bottle of water is $4. A $3.99 breakfast at home is over $13.00 plus coffee ($4) and juice. I did not get to do any tours, but if I ever go back, I will definitely make time for the grand canyon. It was between 108 and 112 deg. F every day...which is just "stupid hot" in my opinion!

Hate to break it to ya Mr. B, but I was in Vegas last week and saw him wandering the streets several times!

I always liked to cook Pike that way (or whatever species we had)and then chill it like Fish Farmer says. Served with seafood sauce is great. My kids would devour the whole bowl done that way. I think it is probably one of teh healthiest ways to cook fish too. It is cooked in heavy salt water, but that gets rinsed off at the end before chilling.

Serious towing with a Safari / Astro Van?
Rattletrap2 replied to Rattletrap2's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Bernie! I'm glad to receive your expert opinion on this. You must have seen a few set-ups similar to this over the years? Brakes on the van are a sore spot. I have 16" wheels and disc brakes all around. The van does not get used as a daily driver, and thus only 90K on it. Rotors constantly rust up and even right now, something is wrong with them. Noisy and full of vibrations stopping the van alone! Is there a better rotor available? I had something different installed on my little Rav 4 that is "supposed" to be better. The rotors are a little heavier and have a groove scored into them all around the surface. My previous ones warped with only 20k on them. Pads were hardly worn at all! -
Serious towing with a Safari / Astro Van?
Rattletrap2 replied to Rattletrap2's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys. This particular set-up is rated for a trailer weight of 4,900 lbs. with the 3.42 rear end. If I had the 3.73 rear end, the available trailer weight would only go up by 500 lbs. Changing out the rear end is cost prohibitive for that small gain! I ordered it with a tow package when I bought it, but that only included a weight distributing hitch and 7 wires run to the rear doors. I need to get a brake controller for sure. Any suggestions on those? Even towing my boat around all these years without brakes makes me wonder what I was doing all this time! From what I can find, the curb weight is 4,068 lbs. for this van empty. The empty trailer weight is 3,700 lbs. By my math, this leaves me 1,732 lbs. Now, out of that 1,732, I have to carry fuel for the van, both of us, & our food and gear. I would be pushing it close to the line. I figure I could keep this stuff down to about 1,000 lbs. That leaves me 732 pounds below my rated GCVWR of 9,500 total. Yikes!!! -

Yes, I know Wayne but that was an aluminum boat so I don't imagine it weighed over 2,000 lbs? I thought of Lew and his Safari / Astro. -
Guys, I am looking at doing some pretty serious (I think!) towing with our 2005 GMC Safari van. It has the 190 HP 4.3L Vortec V6, 3.42:1 rear end. The manual says this combo has a GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating)of 9,500 lbs. The curb weight is listed at 4,068 lbs. I am thinking that with these numbers, I have a total of 5,432 lbs available to tow? I realize that occupant weight, fuel, cargo, etc. have to be deducted from this last number. A lot of people feel these vehicles make poor tow vehicles. Do any of you have experience with this package? I am looking at installing a Tranny cooler (external), brake controller of course, and load equalizing hitch. Thanks
