‘‘Tis almost the Season. Fuel stabilizer acticle
Hack_Fisherman replied to captpierre's topic in General Discussion
Good article! I didn’t know there were stabilizers specifically for marine. Also very good to know they have a shelf life. 1-2 years I try to use my fuels up seasonally as much as possible. I don't have oil injection so I can’t use it in my vehicle at end of season. Anything left in the spring gets mixed with Fred fuel/mix. I read that premium doesn’t contain ethanol but it also doesn’t burn as quickly. I’ve been using stabilizer with a glug of seafoam and a shot of Lucas on every tank and so far so good.... but I will switch to a marine specific with a 2 year shelf life -
Black bear encounter leads to sudden death

My bad, I was thinking of yet another attack and have my facts mixed up. It was 2005 in s different PP. very tragic story. Couldn’t imagine the nightmares and what if scenarios he still must have. http://www.ottertooth.com/discus/messages/35/2949.html?1129419592 -

Black bear encounter leads to sudden death
Hack_Fisherman replied to FishFishing's topic in General Discussion
I think it was a couple that was attacked, he survived. She was a youngish doctor from Cambridge ON. He couldn’t get it to stop. It ignored all the food they had thrown at it to get it leave them alone and went for the kill. Your thoughts are interesting,. I always thought rogue black bears were ones that like you said, were remote and non human educated but also bears that had learned to hunt moose calves and developed the taste for fresh kill. I never considered the early weaning thing. I don’t think i’d ever do interior camping without protection, legal or not. Bear spray wouldn't make me comfortable enough. Just as well, I’m too old now anyway. -
This is an interesting thread. Every time we camp or rent cottages we both dream of living up north. We could never afford to own a cottage AND a home in the city at the same time but your thread has me thinking again...we could afford to sell and relocate. My job could technically be remote also and her career is one that’s in demand everywhere. But like all the good folks here have mentioned, there’s a lot of drawbacks. We spent a lot of time in the Huntsville area in every season considering the move. 3 things turned me off; 1) food culture. Someone mentioned it earlier. No great dining choices. You cook your own gourmet meals 2) Locals vs Cottagers. There appears to be a real defined us vs them attitude both ways. I’m seeing it again this week. Our beat up starcraft super sport is a little out of place in Muskoka. Camp hillbilly just arrived....sorry, still running filthy 2 strokes... 3) is the biggest...black fly/mosquito season. i don’t know if I could stand living at a 4 season cottage those 2 months a year. We are dog people, so that means several trips outside daily. We go up north any month of the year except May & June. But I totally get why you want to move up. First day anywhere north of the Severn River and I am relaxed.

I’m off this week and fishing for large and small mouth bass. Also looking for pike. Ive used various swimming/diving baits, small& large spinners, tube jigs, grubs and small spoons. Tough few days and I’ve thrown nearly everything at them. Do you guys have preference for early fall selection, choices or techniques? the lake I’m on is tea stained. Colour suggestions?

Or Cerka in Milton (if you’re close)

It’s a nice little park. The river like another poster said meanders. used an electric trolling motor, But found I could only go so far before turning back. Neat place to explore. Got a somewhat nice pike upriver. You could launch in the river in the park. The lake is short skip and jump away from the launch. I saw people there with Motors. don’t be surprised to see big black aircraft flying low and loud overhead. We saw some heavy military planes flying in formation. Found out there’s an airstrip right across from the park. Not sure if they use it a lot Also, there appears to be a crownland lake on the way into pembrooke. Hwy 62. Has parking and a dirt launch. Never tried it but it looks like it’s used.

Cerka in Milton for any trailer part, axles etc. If you only need bearings and seals, go to a bearing supply house.

That’s a dream fish for me. Well done

Do you guys think small town Ontario is still hardest hit per capita versus city centers? My wife and I love Road tripping and stopping through a lot of smaller towns in around southern Ontario. It feels to me like there’s some pretty heavy down and out people whether it’s drug use or not in places such as Owensound Midland Collingwood etc. And eastern Ontario such as Peterborough And Perth. It almost seems to me like they’re more visible in the small towns that in the cities. That being said I don’t go into the GTA too often. I’m not sure what the core looks like. The reason I’m asking, is because I’m wondering if there’s a correlation with the availability of good work. If the area is economically depressed, so too are the people? We often consider moving places when we retire and we’ve crossed off an awful lot of them. Just too rough ( I hope I don’t sound like an uppity dick)

Wow, that’s not worth it. I can get full sized panels for a couple hundred bucks. I wonder how well they would work. (Not for camping per se, but for daily charging at home -

Wow, that’s pitiful. You guys serious?? -
Good grief, 1 quart per 3000 is crazy. That’s like a 250k motor thirst. Shame, because the 5.0 went like a scalded cat. Great looking truck, let us know how you like the eco in regards to power and fuel economy

Boat that can be transported on top of vehicle
Hack_Fisherman replied to Sketty55's topic in General Discussion
I know what you mean. And surprisingly low for such a big car. I love the 60 Impala/wagon/El Camino. The one I saw last night was killer. I never thought I could want a wagon until I saw this one. Super rare and super cool -

I had a 1960 Chevy wagon go by me last night. It wasn’t the wagon your pop drove in the 60’s...lowered on billets and sounded awesome. Coolest wagon I’ve ever seen -
Perth area camping and fishing?
Hack_Fisherman replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, I hadn’t considered that one but it does look like a beautiful lake. I’ve picked a tough weekend to go it seems, nearly all booked everywhere. I may have to tent it and take my boat with a kicker. Anyone know how fast a trolling motor charges with a Coleman solar panel? -

I want to watch the launch -
I might have the opportunity to get away in the Perth area for some camping and fishing one weekend late August Any suggestions for on good places to camp and really nice fishing lakes? I’ll be going solo. Prefer camp sites with hydro as I will need to charge my trolling battery. I’d either be taking my tent trailer and canoe with electric motor or roughing it with a tent and bringing my boat for gas and electric motoring. Both Silver Lake and Sharbot Lake PP’s are all pretty much booked right up (electric sites) Thanks in advance

Drilled. I was dealing with solid rivets. What I found work best was to centre punch the rivet head on the underside of the hull. Then I drilled slightly larger drillbit than the rivet size itself so 1/4” for 5/32 rivet. Before I got too deep I used a small cold chisel to knock the rivet head off. It won’t budge if it’s not ready At the point of head removal, I switched over to a 5/32 Drill bit and drilled until I just got past the outer skin. Then I used a short shaft 5/32 punch to drive out the rivet (was about 10 bucks at the Brafasco. Much better than the craftsman/Mastercraft long straight punch) Sometimes they were stubborn but for the most part they popped the remaining rivet out in about 3 to 5 blows of the hammer. Trying to drill the rivet out right through proved to be a little sloppy in some cases and driving with the rivet out was much cleaner. If you don’t drill partway through the hull, you can’t often drive it free due to the swollen part of the rivet that may have expanded between the rivet and the rib if there was any gap. I don’t recommend using a grinder. It will be hard to see what is rivet and what is hull once the head is gone and aluminum plugs up your discs/grinding stones Drizzle a fair bit of 3M 5200 around the rivet pin and rotate to drag it into the bore for good measure. ( pop rivet or solid)
