Long term decline of the Toronto fishing show
Radnine replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
I went to the show on Monday. I thought it was quite good really. I had a coupon out of the paper for $2.00 off admission (thanks Fishing World) and the free parking is a God send. As far as deals go, I thought that there were some to be had (YUM Dingers for $3.33/bag, selected Rapalas $6.00 each), and my nephew bought two reels that were at one vendor for $160, for $120 cash (each) taxes in! There were also vendors there that were out to lunch on their prices. I enjoyed talking to the few factory reps that were there, and I met Lew and his wife (Lew was actually too busy haggling for his new boat at the time, but his wife is charming). All in all a good couple of hours in February. Jim -
Congrats Lew, Is that the one you were looking at when I was chatting up your better half? Jim

Buster, I'm going now!! Based on your positive review. You've reminded me what it's all about. Seeing stuff you might not see elsewhere, getting out for the day, magic. Thanks man. Jim -
Good thing you've got all summer to build a new one. Oops! Sorry, I mistook this for the teacher bashing thread.

Does this show rate? I mean Bass Pro has a sale to compete with the sportsman show. LeBaron is at the Sportsman show and has the no-tax thing at the show and at it's stores. Is this thing worth going to see or should I save my cabbage for the show in March? Thanks, Jim -
Thanks Terry. I would have rathered a Cabela's, but I don't hold you responsible. Jim

The other day when I was watching a Buffalo hockey game the announcer said something about someone buying fishing tackle at a store that will be built where they are now tearing down the old Aud. Does anyone know what's going in there? Jim

The funniest episode I remember was when Carter reveals that he is of native descent so Hogan decides to have him shoot a truck going by the camp with a flaming arrow. He hauls back and hits the divider in the window. Newkirk (Richard Dawson) grabs the arrow and the bow and says "no wonder you lost the bloody west" then shoots the truck. I think you can youtube the scene. It is priceless. Jim

I loved MASH, in fact I still use lines that I stole from that show. But any more, I won't watch one that Henry and Trapper aren't in. Sorry to all Potter/Charles/BJ lovers, but that show lost it when the boys left. And don't get me started on the last three seasons when the show became a "who can yell louder than the others" contest. Not to mention a "let me direct this one, no let me direct this one" contest Jim

Has anyone found any fishing show coupons (2 for 1, 1/2 price, etc.) anywhere? Thanks. Jim

Hey guys, I have never been to this particular show. Are there deals to be had? Will cash get you a break? Is there a beer garden? Jim

Welcome George, Have you bought a cottage on Baptiste, or is that as far as the car gets before running out of gas? If you use the search feature on this forum you may find some interesting things on Baptiste. Jim

It sounds like it could be a little under-powered, but on a positive note you will not need to buy a drift sock. Welcome aboard! Jim

You have got to look for a forum on the web for washers. I have repaired my own dishwasher twice and the fridge once, based on forum advice that I have found. Google "Kenmore washer light flashes" or something like and you will probably find something helpful. There is really not a lot to appliances so if you have any mechanical ability at all and the right info you've got a fighting chance. Good luck, Jim

What else do they have?

You've hit the nail on the head. Do you think that the crime rate is going to get better as people (kids mostly)realize that there are less and less opportunities for a good job? We had better find somewhere for people to work in this country soon. Jim PS. Sorry to be a downer.

So, let me get this straight; You ship most of the manufacturing off-shore so that nobody has work or money anymore. They in-turn, don't buy anything off of other people, so they loose their jobs as well. Boy who could have seen that coming? I am not trying to be a smart a$$ about this, or be disrespectful to those that have lost their jobs. But I am galled that people act surprised at all of this. I also can't believe that people talk about a turn around like it is just a matter of flipping a switch. People need jobs to have money to buy goods and services, that gives other people jobs and pays the country's bills. Period. I keep hearing about investing in technology as an answer. Here is a news flash: Technology looses way more jobs than it creates (at least in the manufacturing sector). To get extreme, we need to get rid of the robots and put people back to work. Robots don't pay taxes, people do. Nostalgically yours, Jim

Wrong! You have quit. Remember, the minute you stop you are a non-smoker, not a guy that used to smoke. Congrats to all! Jim
