Ya, I love them too. and you're right, I don't look at the photo section. I love to look at those pictures and see that some things never change, and hopefully never will. Thanks again, Bernie. Jim

Here is another tip....SLOW DOWN

What a fantastic post Anton. You have beautifully conveyed what fishing is all about: excitement, camaraderie, and most of all, enjoyment! What else but fishing can make grown men act like kids on Christmas morning. I am thrilled that your research has paid off in some fine catches. Jim

The only ones I have ever seen have been driven by people that are paid to drive them (on TV). That is not necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think that they have caught on here yet. Jim

Thank your lucky stars that it was a brilliantly welded Crestliner boat. Had it been a riveted tub it would have been smashed to pieces spraying shrapnel in all directions, possibly hurting innocent bystanders. Perhaps if you hit it hard enough with a hammer you can bash the tiller out of it and make it into a side console, as God originally intended. Jim It might even look like this:

Being a bit judgemental aren't we?

Congratulations! And good luck with your search.

When I first started to fish Erie (out of Port Maitland) the fellow at the bait shop there told me "when you see the white caps start to form, head for shore". It has worked out pretty well so far. The guys are right about everything mentioned so far. Don't even leave the house though without a favourable weather report. Jim

If you've won three times already you are spending too much on coffee. An extra large a day will cost about $45.00/month, put that money in an index fund (low MER, safe) and when the TSX is back up around 14000 points you will have almost doubled your money. Buy a dividend fund that holds lots of bank stocks and you might do even better. Jim

It's the best time of the year? Your brain must be frozen. I am not sure that anyone that thinks this way is fit for team 8. When it gets warmer I am going to talk to Bernie about trading you to another squad (perhaps for a set of proper winter clothes for me). Jim

Perfect day... perfect ice conditions. N/F !

Now I really am jealous of you up north types. Are those Champs on skis (judging by the CF reg. I would say they are) or are they home builts of some type. They look like homebuilt paint schemes but classic Aeronca lines. What a day for it eh? Thanks for the great post. Jim -
me too

Does anyone know why there is an R bend? Why aren't they all closed loops? Jim

I use AVG for free and it has worked out well so far. Jim

....and the ultimate stroke of luck would be that he score clock falls on both teams while they are having a team photo taken so they can both start over. Now that would be a rebuilding year! Jim

OK, this is definitely a winter subject. What is your favourite "Up North" type town? Those of you from the north might not get this at all, but your towns and bodies of water hold a fascination to those of us that are not. Mine is Bobcaygeon Ontario. I know that it is not really the north, but it is a place that I have very fond memories of, and where the cottage/fishing lifestyle was implanted in my brain. I remember walking along the break-wall down Front Street to the damn, and sitting on the railings at the locks looking at boats and girls. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was goal setting. I now take my family (and my boat) there whenever I can. We still love walking through town on a sunny day and fishing for everything in Sturgeon Lake. What makes it even better now is that I get to enjoy a pint of draft on a patio bar somewhere. Sorry if this comes off as a little juvenile, put it down to cabin fever. Jim

I don't know what to say. I'm not envious, perhaps curious would be a better description. Wow. I'm stunned. Jim

Just long enough for Cactus Fest eh.
-
Are you sure that the surly fellow from the bar wasn't from here? The description and the habitat seem to fit.

Thanks to all that responded. I actually think I get it now. Jim

#1 The yelling during a curling match. Man it is starting to annoy me. I've curled, I get that you have to communicate but it's getting stupid. Half the time you've got the shooter yelling "hurry hard!!" and the skip yelling No!! on the same rock. Shut up already (same goes for tennis with the grunting). #2 People (media types mostly) saying that it's OK for the Leafs to suck this year because it's a rebuilding year. I mean what have all of the other years been, years that they sucked for no reason whatsoever? Do you remember the year after the lock out, with the new rules and all the league was going to be better and faster etc.? The Leafs first signing in the new era, Ackie Burg and Wade Belak. I remember the announcement like it was yesterday. It is the moment I became a Habs fan (honestly, it's one of those where were you when moments). #3 Being cold. I stepped out the door this morning to drive my son to a buddy's house and was immediately cold through. Bless all of you that make a go of it in winter (fishing, sledding, etc.) But I'm bloody fed up with it. Thanks for listening. Jim

You've lost me, what is lining? Jim

So is it like horseback riding, not the most efficient way of getting around, but a time honoured tradition?

I watched a fly casting seminar at the fishing show. And I watched Mercer's episode on fly fishing for Gar. My question is this: What is up with the line everywhere? I also saw that show called "What a Catch", and the host was fly fishing in the middle of a grassy field. She stood about 15 feet from the side of the stream with line all in the tall grass and stuff and casted into a thin stream. Why not stand at the side of the stream and just flip the fly into the water? Why not use the reel to reel in the fish? Is the idea of fly fishing to do everything as backwards a$$ed as po$$ible? I just don't get it. Jim
