Cookslavs "Specktacular" Algonquin adventure
Radnine replied to Cookslav's topic in General Discussion
What a great report and trip. But, Latex gloves in the bush? Which one of you had to carry the bidet? Jim -
My centerpin bearings wont spin anymore

I think that you are correct sir! I am ignorant of both types (or just plain ignorant) and a fan of neither. I am wondering though, if you can buy Bearing Buddies for your centre fly pin float reely thing. I drive my trailer in the water all the time and have not had a bearing problem yet. Jim -

Don't you just let the rope you use just lie in loops at your feet? I mean does the reel really need to turn at all, can't you just wrap it around like on a Yo-Yo? As you can see, my expertise is in bearings and what affects them worldwide and regardless of protection; contamination. And not in the type of fishing that necessitates standing in water and laying your equipment in same. Jim -

Look at BillM's avatar (and your own for that matter) and the mystery of what happened may be solved. While I am no rocket surgeon, 20 years of millwriting has honed my trouble shooting skills to a fine edge. Jim -
Yes, know better than to post pictures period. The holier-than-thous might actually be giving the know-it-alls a run for their money.

"It was the way we had over here of living with ourselves. We'd cut them in half with a machine gun and give them a bandaid. It was a lie, and the more I saw of them, the more I hated lies."

I haven't seen an efficient use of space like that since Das Boot! Well done. Jim

I think that you also need to keep in mind that there are people that wouldn't pay five bucks for a kidney to save their lives ("Vell, I tink I can yust make vone or sho). I looked and looked for a suitable package and there wasn't one to be had. If this one suits your eye (and the one owner thing is priceless) then go for it. Do yourself a favour though, when it is all said and done, forget about what you paid and get on with enjoying it. There will always be someone who got the same thing for half the price and by default, there will be someone that paid twice what you did. Buy it and enjoy it!!! Jim

When I was doing my research last year (or was it the year before) on new vs. used boats, I found that boats lost about $800.00 per year. Now this is stricktly anecdotal, but give it a try. Find out what your smokercraft is worth now (easily done thanks to the net) then do the math to see if it jives. Jim

Kind of makes you wonder what all of the fuss was about, doesn't it? Jim

Congratulations to you and your family! There is a fellow on Hwy 6 between Caledonia and Hagersville that repairs props and by all accounts I have heard, is quite good. Jim -
Speaking of PU'd wives, WOULD IT KILL YOU TO CLOSE THE CUPBOARD DOORS?

I am not sure how to link you there properly, but if you did a search on "sucker rig" this would have come up. I think it will answer most of your questions. Jim http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...p;hl=sucker+rig

I don't have a thought on this one way or another (because I don't have a clue) but I wanted to say the quality of responses on this thread have been top notch. This is what makes this community great. Jim

Could you put your cart on a barge or something and get off the land completely? Sell your doggies on the water side of the Rotten Ronny's. In other words think outside of the box a bit for your solution. Also try to keep in mind that there is someone that has invested in bricks and mortar and sees you as a threat. Council is supporting them for a reason (like they employ people to work on the building, fix the pinball machines, local plumbers, what ever). Somewhere in a parallel universe there is a forum where everyone is supporting the arcade owner from the invasion of the transient cart people!! I think that there has to be a solution here once issues aren't clouded with partisanship. Good luck. Jim

I have an H2Oc. While I am sure it is a terrific unit it is a pain in the to get to know. They should run a course on them (like good photo shops do when you buy a digital camera) when you buy one. Actually the only thing that keeps me even remotely calm when talking about mine is the fact the the kid at Grimsby tackle ran me through a bunch of features on mine. H2Oc = lots of features, HUGE learning curve. Jim PS. I'm also still pissed at the fact that they are useless until you buy a card, which is as much as the unit itself. It's a principle thing.

I used Fireline all last year (with 3 or 4 feet of Flouro as a rule). I liked it fine. Yes it sort of frays a bit, and it takes a bit to get over the dental floss look, but it is stronger than your Uncle Fred's aftershave. I have bought some more for this year, in 6lb test for my walleye set up. Jim

That looks like a happy kid! Congratulations! Jim

My boat has a brilliant small dry well behind the drivers seat. On the 17' it's an aerated livewell, on my 16' it has become the snack-well. I usually stock it with granola type cerial bars and juice boxes. I love to take a thermos full of coffee, but last year it was responsible for more stains in the boat than any thing else and I am strongly thinking about banning it this year. My B-in-Law has a theory that fish can smell the Doritos on your hands and will not bite. So when fishing in groups he always makes sure to give the bag of doritos to the guys in the other boat. Jim

Congratulations, you have managed to make a vacation sound twice as difficult as staying at work. Jim
