What a fantastic post with some terrific photos of a beautiful area. You are very fortunate to have a built in fishing partner. Thanks for taking the time to post and congratulations on some irreplaceable father-daughter time! Jim

I thought my boat couldn't get any more ghetto

Two words: Vice Principal Wow man, talk about having your priorities in the right order; You're an inspiration. Until the new boat arrives you can take solace in the fact that you have won the Rube Goldberg engine mounting competition Now if you can come up with some outriggers to tackle the wind...... Jim -
A classic! I was saying the same thing last week when we were at Rice Lake, the wind has been crazy this spring. It makes Erie an impossibility for my boat and larger inland lakes become dodgy (Simcoe, Rice). Hopefully things calm down soon. Jim

Is it any wonder the manufacturing industry is in the state it's in? Get some ABQ's, get up the grid, and get a new boat (teacher talk for the rest of you). Jim -
Congratulations!!! And cool name. Jim

I love my boat more than most things in life, which I suspect makes me normal on this site. But Crestliner did a nutty thing when they mounted the fire extinguisher right in the middle of a super-handy shelf (see photo, you can just see the extinguisher on the shelf) Any who, I emailed my dealer (Proctor Marine, Simcoe) to see if I was allowed to move it without messing anything up (like, the warranty). I got a return email the next day not only giving me the green light, but telling me of a couple of location ideas as well as an attached photo of their preferred spot. I mean he actually unclipped a fire extinguisher and photographed it in another spot, then emailed it to me. Doug Heighington is the man. I mean, how many guys would do this? Jim

I couldn't agree more. I have personally pulled over at least three times and asked people if that is their kid they just picked up. I mean actually pulled in front of a car that stopped to pick a kid up off the road. Once I followed a car to get the licence number, which I called in to the police to check out. It just looked dodgey, like the kid had to be talked into the vehicle. On that one the coppers even got back to me to tell me that all was good. I'm am not self back-patting here (no doubt there are many reading this that may think I'm a pain in the ass) but I wanted to say that in every case the person I talked to thanked me for stopping. Every time. In my school (high school) there is not an adult that comes close to the building without being approached by someone (can I help you, who are you here to see? etc.). And I know from going into other schools for various things that it is usually the same way. I often have to tell more than one person who I am and why I am there and am happy to do it. As far as I am concerned there is no down side to being aware of your surroundings. Think of how differently things might have turned out in Woodstock if someone would have engaged Tori's abductor, if only to talk about the weather. Jim

Congrats Cliff, on another great memory for you both (and for us!) This is the kind of magic that you can't put into words when your friends are asking you if they should have kids or not. What else are we here for eh? Thanks again. Jim

You know they didn't eat them out of the bay last year Garry 'cause they're still alive to make this post. Jim

Congratulations! Jim

The scariest thing to me is that here are people (her parents) that did what we all do every day; wait for their kid to come home from school. Thank god that 99.9999% of people in this world are decent law abiding kid loving members of society and because of that our kids come home. Because all of the video surveillance, teacher supervision or punishment after the fact, won't stop the .0001. I hate this crap. Creep proof your kid and keep an eye on other people's kids. Jim

Buying Replacement Tires for my Truck
Radnine replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
They look they've had it. If your looking for new I hear the Canadian Tire in St. Catherines is good, and they could use the business. Jim -
Thanks for writing back Rick. At your suggestion I have re-read the post. I still don't see what the fuss is about, but fully support your right to be upset and to shop where ever you please. I also appreciate the inference that my reading comprehension isn't what it could be, I will work on this. Jim

So let me see if I have this straight: You got a flat, the spare worked as designed, the store was closed the minute you needed it, but you had to actually go to the store to find that out because they did not post it on a billboard. Is that the reason you made this post and swore off of Canadian Tire? Did they cause the flat? Was there a reason you couldn't go another day on the spare? Did you really move heaven and earth to get there on Victoria Day? What do you do when the ATM is temporarily off line, sell all of your investments and stuff your money in a mattress? I would be lost without CT, I go there way more than I would care to admit. I buy their tires because they fix punctures for free at any Canadian tire store, anywhere, including towns that I vacation in; To me a wonderful convenience. I hope that they will still sell tires after this dust settles. Jim

I think you might be throwing the baby out with the bath water here Rick. Jim

It was a gorgeous morning and I was looking for something to do. My choices were to get the boat out or go to the Bluejays game. As I was inspired by John F's report about Dunneville fishing, and looking not to spend a whack of cash, Will and I hit Port Maitland and headed up the Grand. We set out to jig for walleye but 10 minutes in, this throwback to the stone ages hits. I was using my new med-lite/fast Walleye rig so it was more of a coaxing from the bottom than a fight. When I finally did get him to come to the surface I could not lift the net with one hand. I did not get a picture with me and it as I am basically scared to death of these things (I told Will they were poisonous so he wouldn't think me a wimp for not touching it, good one eh?) I also didn't get the tape on him 'cause I am super paranoid about not handling fish I'm not going to keep (where'd that come from? ) At any rate, got the hook out toot sweet and dumped him back in, none the worse for wear (near as I could tell). Thanks John, for the inspiration. And sorry to Bernie and the rest of team 8, I haven't made my sign up yet (I never usually catch anything in the Grand, honest) Jim
