Yah, whatever. Oh sorry, I was talking to my wife. Welcome to the board!! Jim

Hi guys, Thanks for bearing with me while I post loads of drivel, almost none about fishing. My new question is about travel. My wife and I are planning a four day knee wobbler to the Bahamas to celebrate our 10th. Jen has been researching flights etc. and we are wondering if we should book now if we think we find a good one (especially since the harmonized tax takes effect on Saturday) or should we wait until closer to the time we are going (October 2010)? What have been your findings? Thanks, Jim
-
Thanks to you both. I have been looking at maps, and am wondering why anyone would make that brutal drop down onto the 401. Thanks again, Jim
-
I don't get it, where's your boat? Jim

That's a classic! Thanks HH. Thanks to all! The anal attitude toward traffic notwithstanding, he's a wonderful guy, honest. And it was the relationship that he has with his son that I was trying to emulate when I chose to get into fishing in a bigger way. I have always wondered about another route from the 407, that coming down Brock road to the 401 only to spend another hour moving through Oshawa is a killer. Thanks again for the great responses. Jim

Okay, here is the deal: I have the B-in-Law trip to Rice (normally it'd be Doe, but we are switching it up this year) and we are there for the long weekend starting Friday night. My one B-in-L tells me that he will likely pack up Sunday night and drive home in the dark rather than stay until Monday, fish in the morning, then pack up and head out. I am gob smacked. He does not want to deal with the traffic on Monday. Does anyone else operate like this? I mean it is Rice Lake and we are in Hamilton for Christ's sake, what's the worst it could be, twice as long (which would be 5 hours instead of 2 1/2)? Is that worth giving up a night with the lads, a morning fish, and a leisurely pack and go (not to mention the logistics of now having to split food/ accommodations/expenses into different amounts because of one less day)? I guess what I am asking is, should I drop his sister so I don't have to invite him up next year? Thanks for what I know will be sage advice. Jim

I am not sure what it is, but I love Jiggy Jiggy photos. Thanks! Jim

Speaking of not always working so easily,I have to ask this Cliff: How did your neighbour know how many fish they had on board from shore? And what would the OPP had done if they had been within limit and no OOS? Jim

Kicker motor for my new ride....
Radnine replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
I was talking to Charlie Wray at the boat show and he was showing me (and everyone else) his new boat. It was a 22'Crestliner with a 250 Merc and a 9.9 Prokicker. I couldn't get over how small and kind of underpowered it looked, but because of the gearing and the prop (like Wayne just said) it does a great job. Jim -
It's tough to get away with anything in this technologically advanced world, just ask Tiger Woods. I am glad to hear that the OPP responded in a timely fashion (as opposed to the old "called and no one showed up 'til two days later"). Wouldn't it be great if poachers have met their match in the cell phone and an educated public. Now, can Big Cliff halt infidelity.... Jim

I hear you and I used to love Joe too. He was at his best when he was with Harry Neale, now that was classic TV. The problem that I have with Joe now is that he essentially is a Leafs broadcaster and is super biased (Holy Mackinaw! the Leafs got it over the blue line!). And as I get more and more sick of the establishment, I consider homies a part of the problem (yah, I know he's getting paid by them). And he also gets stuck with uber idiot Greg Millen. Do you know I actually heard Millen say during a Leafs Atlanta game (while Andropov was being booed by the Toronto fans) "I don't know why they're booing, he had a lot of good years here" Joe should have said "Holy Mackinaw, you're a dumb ass!" They missed a spot. Jim

Good, I hate the Germans, they bombed my chippy! Jim

BINGO!!! Jim

How about the fact that the guys that they bring on are always cement heads? Matt Barnaby, Tie Domi, Bob Clarke, etc. Agreed. I never said he was good, just that he is the go to guy now (for better or worse) Jim
-
Agreed. It used to be super-brutal when it was him and Greg Millen (who is a complete moron). For the most part they have both been shifted. Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson are the main dudes now for Eastern games, and who cares about out west. I love TSN's coverage and hate Sportsnet's coverage (of regular season games, they are Leaf TV on main cable). Bob Cole and Don Cherry need to be put out to pasture. On a separate note, when my kid watches video of Gretzky's goals he says "Dad, I could have scored on those goalies, they were crap". There is tomorrow's fan for you. It is time to stop giving air time to guys that keep referring back to players and play that have been dead longer than most young people have been alive. What the hell does Darren Pang or Greg Millen know about the game today? Thanks for the opportunity to vent. Jim

Perhaps because they have caught fish there before when you weren't there? Jim

That's good stuff right there. Jim

I have not met you Cliff, no, but I know that you are held in high regard on this board by many (me included). I am sure that your intentions are noble, and you would not make a post like this one unless prompted by an extreme level of frustration. I guess I probably think that not all people that follow a line of thought like the one proposed would be as level headed as you. What do you do when you politely tell someone what they are doing is wrong and they tell you to screw your hat? How long does it take before things escalate? I go back to the thread that I brought up and would bet that the boat bully was sure he was doing the right thing. I fully support your idea of calling the MNR as many times as required. Jim

Wasn't there a report on here a while back from a fellow that actually had a guy come up to him on a lake and put his hand on his boat and intimidate him regarding his fishing? If I recall he was an OFC member of Asian decent and everyone took up for him on how wrong it was etc, etc. I mean how far removed is that from what you are talking about Cliff? 'Cause you can't have one (groups of do gooders watching everyone like a hawk)without the other (vigilante know it alls that hold their level of what's right higher than others). If there is a number call it; If you have influence over those that you inspire and teach, use it. But forming groups to police the waters? Sorry, you've lost me. Jim

I remember when I first got my boat I used to run around it like a looney. Now as Will gets bigger and has his own tackle bag, and I have mine with a separate bag for plastics, with four rods for me and one for him, it seems tiny and very busy. It fills up fast. I guess what I am saying is there is such a thing as too big of a bag (or is it too small of a boat). Jim

Buying a used boat is a pain in the arse!!

Sounds like you got the best of both worlds there. And starting a relationship with a class act like Proctor is never a bad thing. Jim -
At which high school are you a student (if you don't mind me asking)? Jim
