That looks great! That’s what I’m going to do. Thanks!
-
That's also a good idea I will have a look later today when I get home. Would the bracket still be able to receive the motor if I cut it? I have a 14ft Crestliner Sportsman and there wasn't a trolling motor before.
-
That was my initial thought but, I wasn't sure I would like the finished product so I may opt to replace the piece altogether. Didn't think of that, thanks! Would it make a difference if I bolt it inside as opposed to onto again?

Hey guys, as the open water season approaches I want to do some modifications to my aluminum boat. First is replacing the carpet which should be easy. Secondly I bought a Terrova and now have to install it, which doesn't seem all that complicated however the aluminum triangle on the bow of my boat that I thought was big enough, is not. Would it be an issue to remove it and replace it with a bigger piece of aluminum to accommodate the bracket for the trolling motor? I have found a place that I can buy the aluminum from but should it be welded on or would using rivets like the old one be sufficient enough with the motor on there? Has anyone done this before? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What's your best boat ramp argument or funny story?
Musky Plug replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
Pulled up to the public launch to launch the boat, some guy was pulling his boat out so I had to wait. the guy loaded his boat on the trailer, as he was driving out of the water and makes it far enough off of the ramp to have the winch rope snap and I watched in horror as this guys fibreglass beauty slide off the trailer and onto the pavement. I felt so bad for this guy. -

Looking for new graph...how important is side imaging
Musky Plug replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
I think it’s worth the extra money, it can be useful for trolling in my experience. I use side imaging in addition to the other views on the graph. I use it to mark structure and bait when trolling for musky. It only reads until about 20’ or so. -
Nothing fights like a tarpon. I’ve caught some descent skis , but nothing will compare to the strength of a tarpon…well maybe a bigger one! Lol You’re a lucky dude! You will have a blast! . Hell Im excited for ya! Lol

I went yesterday as well. Was hoping to goto the musky seminars as well but didn't have enough time. Looks like I missed on a good one. Did walk around for just over an hour. There weren't any deals to be found, from what I could see. Mostly just store prices. Did buy some stuff but mostly things I couldn't buy at local tackle stores.

Drove by today, was at least a dozen huts out in the bay and half a dozen more in the bayfront park channel.
-
I'm not sure where you're looking, but the main basin of the bay is drops to about that depth.

Have you used a whopper plopper style lure?

I like them, have caught a few fish with it. More pike then bass though from my experience although I do use the bigger sized ones. I'm looking to get my hands on a small one and I use a flouro leader, doesn't impede the action at all. -
This was my exact thought when I read the article. It was nice to go out there and see one, or two boats max fishing. IMO most stay and those that do leave the bay probably may never return. The bay is pretty deep, somewheres around 70-80ft if I'm not mistaken, maybe they wouldn't be affected by the algae bloom?

X3. Spend the extra cash, get the Terrova. You won't be disappointed.

X2 with the above post. Spend the extra cash and get the Terrova.

Purchasing a used boat from a dealer % rate
Musky Plug replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
I am in the same boat as you, so to speak when it comes to looking for a new boat. I'm pretty positive that the rates are higher compared to buying a vehicle. I was at the boat show last weekend and was in both the Lund and Alumacraft booths, and looking a couple different boats. For that we were looking at the monthly payments were much higher then I pay for my new truck, which blew my mind. So I have decided to go the used route for now. If you are considering new, shop around at different marinas and find one that will give you the best deal for what you want. -
I've found a minnkota, price is ok but it's been refurbished. Anyone have any thoughts on buying a refurb motors or should I just steer clear of that?
-
Didn't know this. Will Definitely not do that, thanks.

Does it mess with the graph?
-
On a side note, since the motor runs on a 24v system would I be able to run 2 graphs (if my old graph is compatible), recirculation pump and the motor from those batteries? I have a 12V battery already and run one graph (helix 7) and a recirculation pump off and on throughout the day. Just a though, trying to eliminate unneeded weight.

I have read bad things about Lowrance customer service. I would try contacting the place that you purchased it from and explain your problem.
-
That's what I was concerned about, spending the money on the PD and kicking myself in the but for not buying the Terrova. It seems the consensus is to get the Terrova. I read that on other forums when I began looking around that that was one of the pitfalls of the PD. Can I use any sonar with the motor? I have an old Eagle fish finder that still works. Would it be adaptable for the Terrova? The added peddle would be nice because I fish bass sometimes as well so trying to slow fish pads or certain areas would be a pain I think with the remote.
-
Can you use the spot lock feature with the foot pedal or is feature used with the remote? Sorry, I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to bow mount trolling motors
