  1. I have a dealer about an hour south of me in Bonfield, which is where the motor is being sold from. Sounds like my decision is all but made. The motor is priced at $2000 for brand new non-current 9.9, which is good considering that I'm seeing 2-4 year old Merc 8 and 9.9's going for upwards of $2500!
  2. I've got an opportunity to score a great deal on a brand new non-current (2013) 9.9 Suzuki manual start. Having trouble finding much info on these newer motors. I understand Suzuki's to be a fairly reputable name in the world if outboards, at least with their older 2 strokes, but these 4 strokes I don't know much about. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. Still feeling like February here, but that big angry ball is starting to throw out some heat during the afternoon at least!
  4. Trailered my boat to a local splake lake May 1st last year and I should have brought the sled, shorelines had barely opened up. Sureeee hope we don't have another one of those.
  5. Last week I caught a 14 incher coughing up a 5" perch. But one of the fish from today had a few pebbles in its stomach, which explains their bottom orientation.
  6. That boy is growing like a weed! Awesome report as usual Simon
  7. I've been lucky enough to get out fishing quite a bit these past few weeks, so I decided I'd snap some pics for once today since it was reasonably warm today. Working shift work = lots of weekdays off = lots of solo fishing. So I loaded up the safari and headed to my favorite local lake trout lake. The zone 11 lake trout hard water season is only a month long so I try to maximize my time targeting these beautiful northern lake trout while I can. This lake is known for numbers, not size. I typically won't see many trout over 17" here, so I was happy to see this beauty come out of the hole... Plastered right to the bottom in 80 fow (right where they usually are), I get another good strike that is obviously another larger than average fish... Fished a little more, then packed up and took the scenic ride home and bounced between a few lakes on the bush trails and eventually back to the truck. And the ultimate winter prize...
  8. Sometimes ya gotta poke and prod to get the family members out there eh? Sounds like a memorable trip, where's the laker pic?
  9. So are you saying you quickstriked that poor bunny wabbit to put that monster carp on the bank???? Love the report, especially the trootz, and the sink is an absolute beauty!
  10. And nobody knows a thing about what has really transpired since then except for the frontline workers making strides to assist. It's easy to demand death to strangers, apparently.
  11. Some interesting opinions here. Some people seem to talk like anyone getting into vegetarianism has automatically been swayed by misguided/misinformed opinions. I would argue that most people that opt out of eating meat have done far more research on food production than the average non-outdoorsperson that consumes lots of factory meat. I guess a lot of people associate vegetarianism/veganism with people and organizations that pose a threat to hunting/fishing, and I don't believe that's true in many cases. Many people I know that have tread down the path have done it for 'green' reasons (carbon footprint and all that good stuff) as well as all the typical ethical reasons pertaining to factory animal rearing, and quite honestly, I have nothing but respect for their choices, just as they respect mine to harvest animals from the wild. At least they belong to the ever-shrinking percentage of our population that actually has strong convictions and a passion for something. Anyways, glad your daughter has come around Mike!
  12. I understand your predicament Mike, but I would have to agree with the others and let her go through this her own way. I plan on having my daughter fully involved in my hunting trips as soon as I possibly can.
  13. Awesome Nick! Sounds like the little man is starting to figure out where his food comes from...you're doin it right! Interesting to hear about the Simcoe herring, because they can be downright nasty from Nip haha. I guess that's why the southern guys always disagreed with me haha
  14. Cool little motor!! Does it have a built in fuel tank? I've thought about seeing how fast I could get my sportspal movin' with my 5hp merc!
  15. Looks fantastic! I'm looking forward to my brookie/laker mix for dinner tomorrow from this weekends travels. Tough to beat fresh trout (under 16") filleted skin-on, fried in butter with a healthy amount of lemon pepper.
  16. No kidding! Even up north January and December were both very relatively mild without a ton of snow and all of a sudden it's a brutal winter after 2-3 weeks of seasonal weather. It's only February people!!
  17. Kind of hard to say this early on whether or not it will be a late spring, since it's not even march yet
  18. Just about every river and creek from there north crossing the highway hold brookies, that alone could keep you busy the whole trip!
  19. Nick bagged a pike in the 23" range, and I think I caught the biggest pickerel, but it was still only about 16" or so, so I'll give Nick the honors.
  20. Everyone had a great time. Got lucky with great weather and iced lots of fish!
  21. It's only February and we're living in Canada here people. Good lord, go buy a snowmobile, a pair of skates, snowshoes, or one of the other million things out there to keep you occupied and healthy during the cold weather months.
  22. Full coverage is called full coverage for a reason
  23. Typical jiffy behaviour! Glad you got things sorted out without a fuss.
  24. Can't do much when they operate in countries where such laws don't exist. I've never had a call like this, actually.
  25. All it would take is one big wind, regardless of temperature, and the ice is gone. No way will people be walking out on lake O
