Life goes on. You made a conscious effort to do the best you can to ensure a healthy release, and there is definitely a chance it survived. I've seen bass and pike with missing gill plates and damage to their gills and still be in good health. They are heartier than a lot of people think, and I don't think the GB bass population is in trouble. You can bet whenever a tourney rolls through your water they leave many more casualties behind than your day out on the water

Sounds like you aren't yet sure what you're looking to get out of your boat. I would suggest buying an old 14/9.9 rig on a trailer (dime a dozen on kijiji) and get a feel for what you like and don't like about it, and more importantly get familiar with the level of maintenance required to keep a rig in tip-top shape (likely more than you think if you e never owned one before). The big things you need to know when looking at a used unit is seeing the motor run (ask about lower unit seals and impeller, gear oil etc), compression tester if you have one, age and condition of trailer bearings, tires, leaky rivets. You'll get a good idea from how the seller responds as to how well the boat was taken care of.

It holds lots of lake trout and atlantic salmon. If you know how to fish for trout you'll find fish! I'll be out there once or twice next week trolling around. The thermocline will not be deep, but the fish may be, since the primary forage (smelt) are typically deep water bait fish.

I'll probably be downrigging for atlantics on Trout lake haha...wont be bass fishing anyways!

Sand flats are my number one walleye 'structure' to look for in most instances too.

Trolling! Googling the lakes around here is useless and there are no depth charts or crowds to follow... I usually start trolling with somewhat of an idea for what the fish are going to be doing (depth and what type of bottom they will be holding on etc...) and go from there depending on my relative success. Usually when walleye fishing I will simply cover as much water as I possibly can on unfamiliar lakes until I can pinpoint a couple of spots I want to target at dusk.

Amazing yet again. I think I look more forward to reading about your meals at camp than the fishing or anything else haha Very cool about the 'blue bacteria' being a recent thing. Most of the lakes around here produce 50-75% blue fish (some VERY blue) and it's always been like that from what I've gathered.

Can't speak for Temagami in particular, but the walleye up here are generally still holding in shallow water, as the water has yet to really warm up (low 60's on top and much colder than that just below the surface). In the evening, I'd concentrate on 6-12 FOW on whatever likely structure you end up finding.
