Nice Hut on Wheels! Wish there was frozen water close by and I would have been working on a similar project. Nice RX7 in the back!

I highly recommend the Volvo xc70. One of the most versatile vehicles. can carry 5 adults, lots of cargo space and can pull 3500 lbs and has AWD and Volvo Safety. Not to mention one of the most comfortable rides in its class and never rust!. Its great for dog lovers as well since the rear cargo space is ideal size for them.

Thanks for the replies. I have been checking up on them and the suckers seem to just sit at the bottom and the chub is the one looking to stir things up lol. I do have a 2 inch shiner in there so thinking of using the chub for some fishing within close proximity to where I am within this week. The only place I can think of is lakefront promenade since I hear from a lot of people there are pike there including tackle shops in the area. I haven't seen one or had any bites in the few hours I fished there on multiple days. perhaps a nice large juicy chub will do the trick

In preparations for ice fishing, I picked up half dozen sucker minnows since I was in the area of the tackle shop and didn't want to miss out purchasing them last minute. I asked for the bigger size ones (for pike) and was told that they would be 5-6 inches long. I should have checked the size properly but upon bringing them home, they seem to be longer than I was expecting which is fine, however they seem to be too crowded in my small tank. I had initially bought a 5 gallon tank for leftover shiner minnows so now there are 5 suckers and 1 chub minnow in there which are all in the 7-8 inch range. The chub seems to be the troublemaker and goes all crazy every little while which makes the suckers jump. I seriously thought one would come flying out of the tank so I had to put some weight on the tank cover so it wouldnt fly open. My question is, will they be fine for 2 weeks in the tank? Do I need to feed them? I use to give the shiners fish food I had leftover from my goldfish days and they loved it. I don't have plans to get a bigger tank so I just want to keep them comfortable in whatever space is available in the tank and keep them fed for the next 2 weeks. worst case, despite my efforts and intentions to keep them alive, if they die I will freeze them. Thanks

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully I can find some sucker minnows before heading out. I will use those and resort to my dead shiners when I run out. I'll keep some store bought frozen stuff too as backup.

Thanks. forgot to ask what type and size of hook is recommended?

Congrats! All the best to you and the family.

So I have booked a hut on cooks bay for the first week of February. Will be fishing for perch mainly but want to be prepared for the odd pike that will swim by. I have some frozen 3 inch emerald shiners from my last trip out and was thinking of jigging those. I have read that many people catch them with sardines, or other smaller fish that can be bought at the grocery store. whats is my best option if I were to grab some bait from the grocery store and what size bait? Any other tips? We are not using tip ups and I will have one rod dedicated for the pike so would like to have the best chance. Thanks

Congrats on your new truck! Nice color too. Not sure if there is a option for running board or step, but that would help avoid door dings from careless people in the parking lots. -
happy holidays to everyone!

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will give Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance for a year and see how it goes. I think its worth it for with 30% discount.

but but, I was looking forward to some ice fishing .

Never tried their sweet stuff lol. I usually go to Dunkin Donuts in the states since my friends are pro starbucks ( I'm not a fan) and we settle on the Dunkin Donuts in the end. One time I asked for steeped tea at timmies in Detroit and they kept asking me if I wanted sweet tea. I gave up in the end thinking they may not have that on the menu and asked them for hot water and tea bag. My american friends actually liked it lol .

Good to know. I assumed it was just canada.

You have a point. I guess it's kind of like insurance. I have been towed a few times in the last 8 years of having CAA but have used it multiple times to help out friends and family. So far, I feel it is worth it. I once broke down in Ottawa and the closest place I could have gotten it towed was my dad's place in Montreal. Didnt cost me anything for a 200k tow. I am paying $150 approx with CAA per year. Canadian Tire Roadside assistance is $100 and they have a promotion with Options card that will knock off 30% of that. Well worth it compared to $150+. Just need to see if their service is good.

I have been a loyal member of CAA but I'm getting a amazing deal (50% cheaper than CAA) with Canadian tire roadside assistance for almost the same amount of services. I usually take the premier membership with CAA which includes 350kms for one of the 5 tows which is the only extra benefit I see at this point with CAA as compared to Canadian tire's Gold Package. I understand I probably won't get coverage in the US with Canadian Tire, but I usually rent a car anyways when going south of the border. The deciding factor I guess is finding out if their service is good? I have never had problems with CAA and hoping I can get equally good reviews for Canadian Tire. Thanks

to add to your post, for those filling up premium gas, CT price for premium is a 13 cents margin over regular whereas other gas stations are 16 cents. so saving of 3 cents per litre for premium users at CT. I use premium since my car is turbocharged and the car loves it.

Any good card that will get at least one free flight in Canada as signup bonus?
-
Options master card rules! I use it for everything and buy my fishing related stuff for free most of the time. I usually rack up $20+ per month using it and no annual fees.

cross country canada trip is on my bucket list but probably not going to happen til 2017 . Have done (eastern Canada) Toronto to Cape breton Nova Scotia and its well worth the trip! There may be a slight saving in terms of driving hours and gas cost going through US but in the end for those who are going through US to save time and gas money, I would take into consideration things like potentially not having cell service, something going wrong with the car and canadian road side assistance of no help there, border crossing etc. In terms of comfort, and peace of mind, and Timmies , I would stick to Canada but that is just me.

Thanks. Appreciate it
