  1. I heard a lot of good things about car barn. Will definately check it out!
  2. I will likely head out to the southern tip of our province. Plan is to visit wheatley PP and point pelee. Would like to get some fishing done as well. Looking to get into some walleye if this is possible from shore. The only shore spot I can tell from Google maps is wheatley Harbor as well as Leamington harbor . Thanks
  3. Thanks for all the replies. I tried fishing with it yesterday and did not notice any difference using it. I will be getting a another rod anyways and will keep the broken one (shorter one lol) as spare or for my daughter or wife to use.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into that.
  5. So the tip of my fishing rod broke and not knowing there was a fix for it, I cut it to the next eyelet. total amount of rod lenght lost if 4 inches so what was 6'6 foot rod is now 6'2. I would like to contrinue fishing with it as I don't think the additional 4 inches will make too much difference but need your advice. The rod is a shimano rod with a shimano Zuraca 2500 reel which I really like the feel of and the quality of the reel is great. Surprisingly it has great reviews considering I got it for free with the points on my credit card . If I were to switch out the rod and keep the reel, should I go with a Shimano or go with a Ugly stick? I don't want to spend too much and I am pretty comfortable with the 6'6 rod since I like to cast and retrieve most of the time. Thanks
  6. lol I will have a hard time just getting a little 12 foot boat as I have first got to get the blessings of the boss at home . I just did a search and found out that 9.9 hp motor on a 12 foot can be scary fast lol. I think I will stick to your recommendations of a 4-5 hp motor max. Thanks
  7. I have already started looking on kijiji for 12 foot aluminium boat and seems like I can pick one up for cheap. I guess when the seller says it doesn't leak, I should believe him/her? Another question I had was whether these small boats are stable enough to go out on the big lakes like Lake Ontario or lake Erie when the water is calm and the winds have died down? Not planning on going out too far, maybe stick to within a few hundred feet from the shore. I guess a bigger motor would be helpful on the big lakes too? Lastly I am pretty handy and do most repairs on my car. In case something goes wrong with the small motor on the boat, is it something that is relatively easy to repair? I am seriously considering getting a boat since I have the space in the garage to keep one. Thanks for all the help!
  8. Yes I guess I would have to fabricate something based on what I get. I have a volvo xc90 and it has the factory rails and cross bars. I probably wouldnt use it till next spring so I have all winter to fabricate something for the top. As far as license goes and registering the boat, if I get a 12 foot aluminium boat with a 9.9 or less motor on it, what do I need to get to make it legal? Thanks
  9. What is the best place for spoon chucking from the pier out east? I have never fished out east so have no clue of the area. Also curious if anyone knows if fishing is allowed from the oakville pier at the mouth of sixteen mile creek? There is always talks about port credit and bronte but never of the oakville one.
  10. Thanks for the replies. I did consider a aluminium boat but did not want to deal with having a trailer or having to put something on the roof of the car with that kind of weight. Who knows I may look into it since they are actually as cheap or cheaper than canoes. I did see some with 2.5 hp motors on them. is that too little for a 12 ft aluminium boat with 4 people? Not looking to zip around the lake but as long as it moves at a decent speed is what matters.
  11. This is the first time I am actively fishing for Salmon, but I am doing so from the pier. 2 weeks ago, they seem to be jumping at Bronte mouth, but since then things have quieted down. I am pretty sure the head of the fish looked like salmon but now I'm wondering if it really was Salmon or maybe something else?!? Whatever they were, headed back to deep water and never looked back lol.
  12. So I have been thinking of getting something that I can take in calm water ,is portable and stable enough to fish from and think a canoe with outriggers might do the job. Just want some opinions on whether outriggers are as stable as what they claim to be. I would use it on smaller lakes and for fishing small to medium fish like bass or walleye. Lake trout at the most. Other option is a inflatable boat but the cost of a good one is quite high and there is ways the risk of punctures. At the most I would have 2 adults and 2 kids in the canoe for a total weight of 500 lbs. Please advise
  13. So I have been visiting both places the last few weeks and only one day I saw salmon jumping at the rate of 1 jump per minute, but that was only one day until around 7:30 am, and then all quiet ever since. meanwhile I have been keeping busy trying to fish the river side where definatetely there are fish. I believe the bass are there since the fish start jumping around 8 am till around 10 am and have been catching tiny smallies as well as white bass. The big fish don't seem to be interested in any type of bait whether it is live bait or plastic. I have tried everything. The last option is to use top water lures, possibly flies. Any recommendations on what lures to try? I am fishing from shore so I need to be able to cast out a good distance . Thanks
  14. I would cut the hose and reuse it with a adapter and make sure its clamped down nice and tight. I don't see why it wouldn't work?
  15. I say just save money and go and explore the world! Thank god everything in my family is going well, but living in gta, I may never buy a house either. In the end, as long as there is a roof over our heads, food to survive, and I do my best to keep my family happy, I feel I should be fine without ever having to own a house. In the end, the children probably hardly ever live in the same place their parents worked hard to make their home. They usually sell it first thing, and use the money to buy their own home elsewhere. best of luck!
  16. you should take a look at the volvo xc90 or xc70 from 2004 to 2007 with the 2.5t engine. Solid AWD drivetrain and not heavy on gas. reliable and very comfortable family car and can tow 3500 lbs easily without the addition of anything. and if you want to check reviews, do not look at the reviews for the t6 models as the transmissions on those are no good. check for the 2.5t and you are gold!
  17. thanks for the recommendations. I already spoke to Bill from George N charters, but scheduling is an issue. Redline outdoors sounds fun and I will definitely try to book them when I head up to algonquin later in September. BillM, do you mean Owen Sound? The reason I was thinking of Midland was because I am going there soon. There is a charter running out of Owen Sound there by the name of action fishing or something like that, If anyone has any reviews on this charter please let me know. . Thanks.
  18. Looking for some recommendation on salmon charters from midland or within 30 minutes of there. thanks
  19. I just got back from my trip less than a week ago and with only one computer at home, and 3 users lol, I barely get time to write a post, let alone a report. Finally got my laptop up and running so once I get some photos uploaded, I will post a report. Never got around to going to the grand nor to byng, therefore no report.
  20. So I went with a buddy and fished port credit. My buddy hooked into a massive carp but it got unhooked at the last second. He was glad it happened that way since his net was not big enough. It was probably a good 25-30 lb carp. Saw a pretty good size pike in there and a few more carp but not much more than that. Will check it out again in the next few days. Also saw a dead carp probably in the 25-30 lb range laying in the canal at another park down the road. I was using my flatfish F6 lure in bleeding frog color as well as a green and silver little cleo spoon, but didnt get any bites, but neither did the others fishing. Personally I like the flatfish lure and it has great reviews for trout. Wondering if that is something I should keep trying. for those who have used it know that it stays pretty much on the top of the water. I added a splitshot and got it to go down to around 15 feet. Is that deep enough for trout to notice? The carp and pike were all close to top of the water at the river mouth .
  21. Yes please pm me. Normally I would just go figure it out, but the last few times I went, nobody else was fishing so I thought they knew something I did not. Literally the only company I had was a beaver swimming in the river .
  22. I haven't had a chance to get out to the places close to home so I thought I would try it out this weekend but wondering with the heat wave how things are on the credit river or bronte creek. Mainly closer to Lake O side from shore or at the port credit or bronte pier. perhaps fishing in the evening or before sunrise may be worth? Thanks
  23. Thanks for all the wonderful tips. I am leaving early tomorrow morning and should be able to get fishing Monday morning. I will keep you guys posted. I will probably just keep a few for dinner and release the rest. On the way back I will be stopping at Algonquin so whatever I catch there will come back home with me. at themost that will stay in te cooler overnight so I think I should be good with lots of bagged ice. Thanks
  24. Thanks for all the replies. The reason I was thinking of bringing back is because we plan to go on a salmon and lake trout charter on the second day of the trip. I am not sure if we will be able to catch quality fish after from shore so hoping to bring some back. Who knows we may have better luck from share later in the trip. I do plan to stop at algonquin on the way back home so some nice splake would be awesome. Thanks for the heads up on possession limits. I think I will have to upgrade my license to sport to get in that extra fish . I will definitely be checking this thread while on the trip to keep your ideas in mind. Most of the advice so far is about storing the fish. How about humanely ending the life of the fish? just cut behind the gill and let bleed out? I am more comfortable doing that than wacking it over the head or putting a screw driver through the brains. Thanks
