Hi Smitty, I dont think i was entirely clear, i am referring to those that are using the area for activities such as fishing and hunting. Citiots that go and party up at the campgrounds up north are exactly that...idiots, forget them you cant cure stupid. I am talking about anglers and hunters...i see some really bush league stuff going on from a lot of old timers that are still stuck in the "old way" of thinking. Grabbing pike by the eyes all of that type of garbage.

hate to say this, and this statement is pretty generalized...but true to this day I have yet to see a person under the age of 40 abuse the fishing regulations, pollute or do anything else illegal while fishing...I have however witnessed on multiple occasions old guys taking slot fish, perform absolutely horrendous catch and release tactics and openly polluting the lake. It might have something to do with the times that we were raised, but i will outright say that the generation that has grown up with the idea of global warming, conservation etc has a way way way better understanding in general of protecting our environment and wildlife then the boomer generation who grew up in a time where nature took care of itself. The exception to this are those that have truly grown in the wilderness. Perfect example of this is my brothers older buddy who said he caught a 7lb bass and wanted to club the thing so that he could keep it, but it was out of season so he put it back. I dont know one person my age who would say that... Just my 2 cents hate all you want

This debate is huge on GB as well, but instead of with crappies, its with the round gobies. People argue that the fish population is going to be decimated by them. I am sure there is some type of fish that is suffering but we have had the best walleye, pike, bass fishing that we have ever had in the 10 years I have been in the Pointe Au Baril area. We also have full on evidence from this past fall of watching schools of smallmouth bass in 2 feet of water in a feeding frenzy. We were confused thinking that the shiners were all out in the open deep water. Then I proceeded to drag a jig along bottom and snag a gobie...question answered. If there is one plus side, at least you can eat yours!

I only have a few memories of fishing in Toba and Sask...but man they were something special. I fished opener with my family one year on Jan lake, we hit a 5 fish limit, with 5 people in the boat in an hour...all fish over 20.

biggest pikes ive caught in my life were on a 2 1/4 daredevil 5 of diamonds on May 2-4 and a 3/8ths oz northland buckshot with a shiner head in March. family record was caught on a #2 mepps in June. You dont need to go big to catch big pike

in Africa, Rhino Elephant poachers are killed on sight...here we are scared to fine them more than 10 thousand dollars. Makes no sense at all.

to me the obvious scenario here is that these guys reached out to grab the boat and a canoe being a canoe, it rolled dumped them in cold water and that was that...good luck going for a swim for 100 yards in the water at this time of year. Sad sad story. Never used to wear a PFD, but made the investment and got myself a cabellas guidewear auto inflatable...i wear it every time im on the water since. Trust me guys its totally worth the investment!!!!

on the topic of hardbaits....how you fish them and the action is basically all that matters. You either feel confident with how the bait moves through the water or you dont. this summer i lost my rapala minnow rap in hot steel and have never been able to find one since...that aside from the zara spook jr was the best hard bait i ever owned. That thing caught me literally every single species of fish you could imagine! Youd think its like any other rapala out there, but that particular lure dove at a perfect speed, wiggled at such a nice frequency...i could work that bait over anything, and it hammered fish. Ive never found another crankbait that i can fish so well since...ive almost folded and just bought a bunch off of the internet. As time is moving on, my tackle box is growing, but more with just the same stuff. If you really are getting on the fish with one type of bait, why bother changing? find a few patterns and colours and just work that.
