  1. im heading to Pointe Au Baril Friday will be testing the ice right in front of my place in the surival suit, life jacket with a rope tied and two buddies on land to haul my butt out if i go through. She froze up last Thursday, but we have had a butload of snow so the ice may be just a pile of slush...We fished last year on 6 inches of slush...it was sketchy as hell lol We have had a couple of nights down to -23 now though, tonights windchill is -33 so hopefully we get enough to sneak out on.
  2. you must not ice fish when its -20 lol
  3. i know of plenty of quads that are still running from the 80's so personally I would be looking for an older style one that is less gimmicky...less ish to break. I would also stere clear of anything bombardier these days...they have gone to total crepe. If it were me id buy a yammy or a suzuki. Doesnt suzuki still make ATV's??? The one my brother's had in the 80's still runs to this day. Also just cause this is an ATV thread...a big F-U goes out to the guys driving quads on the snow trails lol signed a snowmobiler lol
  4. a fitted cap and a hoodie for winter steelheading? thats pretty hardcore well done!
  5. the leafs dont need another offensive d man. Especially one that is going to try ask for 13 million a year.
  6. go to island lake...non stop pike and perch action and it freezes early.
  7. your sonar needs to be univesal sonar compatible. I would think that your old eagle would not be, but i could be totally wrong. You then need to buy the US2 adapter for your sonar which will allow you to plug into the connection on the terrova. if you are running 3 batteries, you want 1 for your starter livewell and electronics and then the other two exclusively for your trolling motor. Some people like I know Bill M run a fourth battery to not run electronics and the livewell that way there are no concerns about using up your starting battery while you are out on the water. If you are running that many batteries it can be really worth it to look into a sealed bank charger that allows you to just plug your boat in and get all of the batteries perfectly charged after every trip.
  8. remember this...because toronto was a total victim of this for many years great teams win games that they are definitely not supposed to win. How many times did this happen when toronto used to play boston, chicago, detroit etc etc on any given night. Toronto would dominate and the other team wouldnt even show up, yet somehow at the end of the game the good team would force overtime and then beat us. At the end of the season thats what matters, when you sneak two points out of a crap game. Matt's complete disappearance from this thread when he used to reply multiple times a day is hilarious.
  9. I literally just upgraded from a powerdrive with ipilot to a terrova with ipilot. Heres what you need to know, Powerdrive V2 has no footpedal, its storage system is a bit clunky and can be a real pain in the but to deploy its controller also isnt as nice as the Terrova. The Terrova has an assisted deploy system, its literally 10x better than the powerdrive. The foot pedal is also awesome, has all of the functions of the ipilot remote, including anchor, bearing heading and constant. The controller is also much more user friendly i find on the terrova. Extra bonus US2 capability to throw a sonar up at the front of your boat. I also have used the terrova and the non ipilot power drive with the footpedal and make absolutely no doubts, the footpedal on the terrova is 10x better than the oild powerdrive footpedal. it drives almost like a cable drive.
  10. can we all agree to try find some Titans on sale lol my sorrels used to be awesome before we got these global warming winters where 60% of the time the lake is a foot of water and slush. im in the market for something to keep my feet dry this year.
  11. They arent already? Literally every time i fish buckhorn/pigeon i see at least one thing thats worth telling people about. My last trip it was 6am and I was at a fishing spot and a dude in a wakeboard boat for no reason at all guns it at 50mph 20 feet from our boat for no reason and then proceeds to absolutely crank some really really bad eurotrash stripclub music that I can literally hear clear as day for the next 5 minutes while he drives down the lake...his stereo was so loud i could literally hear his music over a kilometer away. The time before that I am going out for the evening bite and we are pulling up to a shoreline on our left to start fishing when a jetski rips past us on the right and then cuts infront of us (we are less than 50 yards from shore at this point) we stand up and say "what the F!?" and then buddy proceeds to drive 5 feet off of the shoreline at 50mph down the entire channel literally blowing out the entire spot...just amazing.
  12. I wish this was true, but in today's PG NHL...the league protects rats from being exterminated. If this was the 80's he woulda swallowed a few teeth and been outta the game after the first run. Rielly gave him a good cross check, except he then got a penalty and its probably being reviewed for the old shanaban. Watch Rielly might get a game for that one as warranted as it was.
  13. funny the comment about electric cars...up until the ban on coal consumption in ontario and the implementation of "clean coal" in the United States, Electric Cars were dirtier than gasoline. Funny how short sited people can be. I honestly believe that the electric car is the real deal though as long we can keep the cost of electricity down...which in Ontario is a joke...(thanks for stealing a billion dollars...ok too political sorry Art!) It is true that the global economy is unfair because countries like china and india do not maintain the same environmental standards as we do in North America, however at the same time the cost of pollution to those local populations when it comes to cancer and respiratory illness is astronomical. At the end of the day we can sit and point our fingers and say China should do a better job...but at the same time I think we need to take pride in doing things the right way...thats why we are canadian and not Chinese. I have pristine lakes to fish within a half hour of the downtown of Toronto, try that in beijing or New Deli. I would rather have a sense of pride and be known as the highest standard than stoop to a lower level just because its easier that way. My old man is a metallurgical engineer and he does projects all over the globe, as a rule anything they design is built 100% to Canadian Environmental standards...thats just how canadians do business. When it comes to really dangerous stuff like pressure leaching using acids etc, third world countries cant hire garbage to build these types of plants anyways so they are forced into doing things the right way. Obviously there are also publicly traded companies with invested stake, so they cant be part of an environmental disaster. I am definitely interested in this discussion about the required amount of resources and carbon emissions it takes to create ethanol vs simply refining fuel and using it in a gasoline engine. In fact that is an entirely different discussion and really a feat of pure ingenuity. The efficiency of gasoline and diesel engines is mind blowing. We can talk about cars being a POS...but seriously, what other thing is there out there that you can run for 1,000 hours straight in wildly variable conditions and basically not expect a single blip aside from minor maintenance like a couple of oil changes.
  14. having seen the condition that the causeway is left in on a typical day...im all for it. Agreed about the gannon though, its gonna be an overload of people. Although there is a lot less parking nearby.
  15. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/ontario-government-wants-to-double-gasoline-ethanol-by-2020/90322/ Sorry i was reading a different article.
  16. bingo....if you fold the handles down on the reels mine closes no problem. even funnier is my buddy spent $100+ on an actual ice fishing rod holder and it sucks...
  17. i honestly bought a gun case...the foam inside doesnt catch hooks and if you fold your real handles in, everything sits perfectly secure and snug inside. I even throw my plano's and other crap in it. Nothing ever moves and the stuff gets bashed around on skidoo rides through the bush. When i open err up everything hasnt budged. I think i paid 20 bucks and it holds 4 rods plus my plano with my ice lures and a thing of line.
  18. i guess i wasnt clear, the law would only effect regular grade fuel. If you buy Esso Premium it already has ethanol in it. I know shell v power has no ethanol and i believe Crappy Can's premium is also ethanol free.
  19. this 100000% it blows my mind no one has figured this out yet. Every single winter fisherman would buy it if it was small enough.
  20. Does not effect premium grade...however most marine gas around me is mid grade...looks like ill be hauling more jerry cans around to get the ethanol free gas.
  21. not even close lol hes played 13 seasons and doesnt have 600 yet. At most hes got another 13 seasons to score almost 300...and theres no way hes keeping pace once hes 40-43 especially in the NHL now where its so stupid fast. Gretzky's records will go untouched forever...although seriously, i personally believe ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of all time and its not even close. When you look at the records, its all names from a really long time ago, and then theres just alex ovechkin right in the middle of it...if he played in the 80's good god hed have 2000 goals.
  22. slow days on the river better than no days on the river
  23. may have told these before but whatever was fishing with the old man a couple of years back when the old man gets a phone call, he answers the call and then hangs up...it was my brother, he wanted my dad to drive over and pick him up so that he could ice fish too. The old man slips his rod into a crappily made snow "rod holder" but i can already tell he doesnt have enough snow there to hold a turd. sure enough a pike smashes his bait as he lifts his hand away from the rod and boom the rod is gone down the hole. I look at my dad with a face "that was stupid" ...the old man just sit there staring at the hole in disappointment. about 30 second later my dad jumps up in a flash and shoves his whole arm right into his hole and retrieves his fishing rod...the pike had swam away with his rod, but then came back past his hole and sure enough the rod floated right back up it. He fights the pike and lands it and takes it home for dinner. Last year i was fishing craps in late march when all of the snow had melted but the weather was cold. The whole lake was glare ice and it was windy as hell, we were having a little trouble with the flip up in the wind so i hop outside to try anchor it down better when i hear dave from inside the hut, Scott what the hell is this!!!!! i quickly run back to the door and peak inside and there is a friggin big old bowfin with its head sticking out of my hole staring at dave! I scream grab it! and the bowfin makes a quick escape. Good to see you back Nick!
