  1. We lost power for approx. 4 1/2 hrs here in Penetanguishene. High winds, rain, thunder & lightning. Trees down and Hydro trucks out and about throughout town. Temperature dropped in a matter of minutes from 32C to 20C. Temp started climbing after the sun came out (intermittently) to around 25C and it was very humid.
  2. My God when will this stop? I wish I had a magic wand so I could make all this go away but obviously I don't. The best I can do Wayne is pray for Jen, Leah, you, & your family. May God bless all of you. Tom.
  3. As long as there isn't much current try Quaker Rolled Oats. Take a handfull of rolled oats in your hand and make a fist, then dunk your hand in the water. Take your hand out of the water and squeeze some of the excess water out of oats. You should have a wet clump of oats in your hand. Put that in your trap and slowly put your trap in the water. It will break up and as long as there isn't much of a current it should work. Minnows love rolled oats.
  4. No, I never leave tackle, rods or reels in car.
  5. I have an Ugly Stick that I use most of the time. My brother closed the car trunk on it once and only bent an eye. Re-bent the eye and you would never know anything happened to it. Wife bought it for me at Christmas in the mid 70's and it is still going strong.
  6. First of all I have to say, be very careful of rocks because there are lots of them in the area. Second thing is to keep an eye on the weather. The wind can kick up fairly quick and can make it very hard going with a small aluminum especially if you get caught in the main bay west of Potato Island. All the fish you have mentioned can be caught near Potato, Green, and Marshall Islands and even channel cat can be caught in the Waubaushene channel using worms, still fishing. If water is calm try Waubaushene channel, Sturgeon Bay or even Methodist Island. try worms, minnows, worm harnesss, almost any kind of rubber. Canadian wiggler chrome and Rapala 6" silver/black work for me, trolling or casting for pike . Don't be scared to try different baits until you find something they want. Being wary of rocks won't take away from your fun or enjoyment but it could save the motor's bottom end.
  7. It was felt here in Penetanguishene. We usually feel any earth quake which originates near Ottawa or South western Quebec.
  8. This thread has gone so far off the trail right from the begining. What is being posted is not what I was looking for, so please start a new thread and post to your hearts content. Let this one die.
  9. Tayzak15 Once again you have missed the point of this post. It has nothing to do with crime, murder rates or gun laws. Don't drag this post to a place to where it shouldn't go. I am just tired of governments at all levels putting in taxes on the sly without directly telling the public. P. C.'s are now acting like Ontario Liberals.. A tax is not always called a tax, it can be called a dozen other names, some of which can't be used on this forum but always takes money out of your pocket. So what else is new?
  10. Am I the only one who didn't know about this? Bruce Cheadle, The Canadian Press Published Sunday, April 14, 2013 2:35PM EDT Last Updated Sunday, April 14, 2013 3:46PM EDT OTTAWA -- The Conservative government is ending a seven-year waiver on gun licence renewal fees next month in an effort to collect about $18 million annually from firearms owners. New changes to the firearms regulations were quietly posted in the Canada Gazette on the weekend that restore the $60 licence fee for non-restricted weapons. The Conservatives brought in a two-year waiver on the fees in May 2006 and had extended it every year until now. "The government will not renew the current fee waiver in the current climate of fiscal restraint," said the Canada Gazette post, dated April 13. Two other measures that the government says are designed to encourage compliance with firearms regulations will be extended by one year, however. Gun owners who let their possession-only licences expire have been allowed to re-apply since 2008 without having to pay to go through a firearms safety course, as the regulations require. That break continues to May 2014. And an amnesty on criminal charges for failing to licence or register non-restricted weapons for people "who were taking steps to comply with these requirements" has also been extended. The Canada Gazette notes that although the long-gun registry was ended by legislation last year, it remains in effect by court order in Quebec. And the amnesty provisions are pitched as a means of keeping Quebecers registering those rifles and shotguns. "Accordingly, the extension of the Amnesty Order would encourage compliance by owners of non-restricted firearms with the licensing requirements across Canada, and in Quebec, with the registration of non-restricted firearms," states the government document. The Conservatives ended the long-gun registry last spring for a savings of about $2 million annually, a figure confirmed in documents prepared for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews but never publicized by the government. Last September the Conservatives began phasing back in the higher $80 licence fee for restricted and prohibited weapons that had been waived. In May 2012 Conservative MP Candice Bergen told the House of Commons that the fee waivers were being phased out, but she framed it as the government providing "extra time" for people to renew their five-year licences at no cost. "This is good news for law-abiding gun owners and good news for taxpayers," she said at the time. According to the Canada Gazette, non-restricted gun licences alone are expected to bring in $18 million in additional revenue each year.
  11. Still looks like Winter here. Snow on the ground from last night.
  12. Happy Birthday Jen, may all your wishes come true. Tom.
  13. I use to think that all season tires were great for the winter until I got a full set of winter tires on my car. There is no comparison, the winter tires have more control and traction. As T.J. said "I dont think I could forgive myself". They are worth the money and you can tell who has them and who doesn't when the weather gets dirty. Don't give me that "false sence of security" business. I am just as focused on my driving when using snows as I was using all season tires. The difference is that I am more in control with the snow tires and don't end up spinning tires at a stop sign, slight hill, behind someone who is stuck in front of me. Most of the time car in front of me that is swaying back and forth on flat roads trying to find traction have all season tires... Tom.
  14. Great news Wayne. Wishing Jen nothing but the best. Tom.
  15. I have a Marcum ShowDown Troller Sonar but haven't used it for ice fishing yet. I have used it in the fall on a 16ft aluminum boat when we were drift fishing and liked it a lot. I didn't think my eyes could handle the multiple flashing colours that other flashers have so I bought the Marcum. I bought it mainly for ice fishing and portability but it can be used from a boat too as long as the distance from the water to the gunnel is less than six ft. The cord on it is six feet long.
  16. Cabela's.ca has Aqua-Vu Micro priced at $319.99 Haven't used it so can't give any kind of review to help you. This one isn't the + version.
  17. This skin will do just fine. Thank you.
  18. I also have been diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis. Last year I had a really rough time with Sciatic pain and couldn't walk without crutches. They ran tests on me and found Spinal stenosis due to Spinal Arthritis. Surgery was not recommended because the pain was becoming more manageable as time went by and the risks of the surgery were too high at the time. I still don't feel the same as I did before all this happened and it's been over a year now. Tom.
  19. Midland and Penetang Bay in places, had a thin coating of ice on it today. Tom
  20. Bump for Jen > Play it again please >

  21. Marcum Showdown Troller Sonar Ice Flasher: This is very portable. You can use 12volt battery or 6 AA batteries to power it. $149 at Radioworld, carrying case and batteries are extra. Can be used without case. Fits into pocket. Radioworld Tom.
  22. Welcome Chris, Enjoy the good, ignore the bad, and don't take comments too seriously. Main thing is to enjoy yourself. Tom.
  23. The regular gas prices in Midland/Penetanguishene range from a low of 115.3 to a high of 119.9 Same price as yesterday. I was waiting for them to use the hurricane as an excuse to raise the prices. Of course we know they don't need an excuse because they have that excuse wheel that they spin whenever they need any extra cash and where it stops is the excuse of the day. Tom
