  1. They are usually a last resort for me....and to be honest, I probably don't give them enough time in the water to really test them out. Handing them to someone who is neutral, or who thinks they'll work, is often a good way to get a bit of a boost. Once you see someone catch on them....it's easier to use them. Hmmm....maybe we should have a non-confidence swap...dig out the lures we don't use and trade'em....
  2. Imagine what would happen if he went with a Mepps #5 Great video....thanks for taking the time to put it together and share it
  3. I did spot the fishing....not sure what "vooray" is, or does, but WOW....looks like some fun times!
  4. There's a hump spot at Lakair?! Okay now I KNOW I'll get the wife to go
  5. I've never been fishing, but it sounds kind of cool, and me and my buddies want to go for a fishing trip this weekend. We only have one rod between us, which we will share....so we only need one license, right? Also, can someone tell us where we should fish? I've heard walleye and brook trout taste really good, so any of your favourite spots for them should work fine....as long as it's no more than an hour away from Toronto....and that's without driving on 400-series highways....I only have my G1.
  6. Sounds like the flies look like what they want from a distance, but upon closer inspection they realize NOPE! I thought I was getting interested fish on a stream...lots of lookers....until someone handed me what they were hitting...even little 6 inchers were hitting like a ton of bricks, and that was with a 7-8wt.
  7. Just a tip...I noticed that when you're pitching, you would start going really really fast....but every time you slowed down, you seemed to catch a fish Great videos....keep'em coming!
  8. I've fished the shallow weedy section between Sandbanks and the Trillium kids camp....nice weedy lake....lots of classic largemouth territory, and drifting weedbeds for pike always worked with white spinnerbaits. Would see people fishing it for walleye, but I never had much luck with them...then again I never left the shallow stuff
  9. Just wondering if ethanol could be part of the problem? I've run into similar problems and a bit of stabilizer cleared things up...I know squat about this stuff...but thought that might be worth mentioning
  10. Crazy pics....insane weed cover....nice fish! Your trolling motor actually pulled you through that stuff? I'd love to hear a bit more about how you fished it....I'd assume you were just plunking jigs.
  11. Looks like you might have to forget to unhitch the boat next time you drive out there for a visit
  12. Honestly, that's a great report It's awesome to see how excited you were for him to catch a REAL fish....and the action shot of his hookset is awesome Keep paying attention to the details, like what's on the gameboy, and you will catch more and bigger fish. For northern smallie lakes that often produce small ones, I find that putting a heavier lure on and vertical jigging in the deep water can pay off....don't be afraid of 30, 40, even 50 feet of water....put a heavy tube jig, spoon, or rattlin rap on, let it hit bottom and rip it up a few feet. See what happens
  13. Nicely done, Randy! Man oh man I wish I lived up there
  14. That is crazy...they are literally everywhere!
  15. Simply amazing....and very inspiring to see you doing trips like this with the whole family...gives me hope! MAN I love Chapleau....what a great week....now you have a year of "can we go back yet?" to listen to
  16. Wow, that's pretty heavy. I understand the frustration of feeling like you don't get enough time out there, but, luckily, I can usually temper that and be happy with the time I do get out. Good on you for knowing what you have to do, and being a man about it. I still don't know about selling all your stuff....but....if that's what it takes, then that's what it takes. It comes through in many of your posts that you love your family, and the extra time and attention you're giving them now will most definitely pay off. All the best, Cudz.
  17. Yeah it's pretty simple. If the lure won't go deeper, add weight. Easiest way is the 3 way swivel....or a clip on sinker. "Reef Runner" IS the brand, btw...they have different models...I *think* the most popular is the 800, which hits about 30' with 100-130' of line out.
  18. I was surprised as well when I met a guy who drags the steel line out there....no matter what time of year, he is right on bottom, and get results. I ended up having to go pretty deep to get any kind of action this past May, even though the surface temp was a cool 52. Who knew?!
  19. That's rough.....remember the good times
  20. Everything I've been reading says Port Burwel is the place to be.....
  21. I dunno....sounds kinda hairy....
  22. SMallies, wallies, pike and now lakers?!?! Very nicely done, man! Keep it up
  23. Very nice! Red bull for Dad, and Pepsi for Jack "Gee honey...I don't know why he comes back so excited,,,he just really really likes being in the boat"
  24. I got hooked on downrigging pretty quickly....great report...lots of great bass....and now you have all fall and winter to think about how to catch more kings
  25. Wow....I think I feel a little more relaxed just reading that and looking at the pics
