  1. We rented a nice place on Carthew Bay which is just inside 8 mile point on Simcoe charts. Anyone have experience in that area, I've fished off JP and all along the SW section of Simcoe but never been to the north side. Boats small, 16.5' so were limited by weather....how is the fishing in Carthew Bay itself? Any lakers/whitefish fishing up that way....look for a flotilla? Not looking for anyones secrets, but if there's good bass fishing off 8 mile shoal, its good in the bay or whatever pointers would be helpful. Two younger kids so doubt we'll make a run to Willow beach etc, last time on Simcoe I got tossed around pretty good.
  2. The Simcoe Carp die off story has hit 680news. Being attributed to an annual die off??? I was looking for last minute cottage rental and booked a bay on Simcoe's NW side last night....now my wifes phoning about smelly fish stories.
  3. Was 'Ground Zero'-Scugog identified as the private area on south side of 7A causeway? Heard that rumour from a few locals when my son played Port Perry in hockey last winter. I was curious as the same thing was being mentioned at Goerski's launch by locals last summer-think I posted then but no one commented. Hope nobody is playing amateur biologist-scary!
  4. Place we had booked just fell through, scrambling to find something for the week beginning July 12-13. There are places available on net sites this year but thought I'd ask here first-anyone have or know of a private cottage for rent in the Kawartha's? Two younger kids so good swimming is most important feature. Need a dock for my boat...and of course fishing matters Place doesn't need to be on a trent severn lake but power boats must be allowed. Not really interested in a resort with numerous cottages this trip, I'd like something quieter if possible.
  5. Goodtimer, pm'd you links to charts I've scanned-anyone else want them just ask. Don't post openly as I don't want copyright problems, just pm the links to each other.
  6. Would the bill of sale and boat license be useful to a criminal that stole a boat? Not sure if it is a concern, thinking possibly for registering the boat somewhere else or even to sell the boat to an unsuspecting person? I heard there is no central registry of stolen boats HIN's similar to a cars VIN, heard a horror story of a person who bought and registered a stolen boat-then found out it was stolen when applying for insurance. Keep my boat registration well hidden up behind the dash in a baggy in case police ever demand it.....bill of sales at home.
  7. If your trailer has the coupler attached to a smaller square tube that slides into a larger tube there's a 'poor man's' conversion if you just need a foot or so off trailer length. Drill 2 holes where the 2 tubes overlap, the smaller one will be at least 4" into the larger tube....you will put bolts (at least 1/2" grade 5) in those holes. Now grind off the weld holding the 2 tubes together, the peice with coupler will slide out. Clean up the weld, make sure there's nothing you will cut yourself on and its done. My buddy used pins instead of bolts to be easily removable but it rattled around too much.
  8. No, if there is water in the lower end it can freeze and crack the housing during the winter.
  9. Sounds like you guys are in that field-I'll take your word that the paint on product is better than duct tape. There are many brands of different quality duct tape though, some under $1 a roll while others brands with good adhesive, thick tape material are over $5 a roll. Tape I applied is still perfect, sticky and not hard/brittle. 3-4 years ago I taped ducts in our basement as upstairs bedrooms weren't getting cold air despite 'balancing'. When I taped off a few basement outlets and was amazed at poor fit at almost every duct joint-elbows with huge gaps and air exiting. Went from barely feeling air upstairs to curtain moving air flow. Building code should mandate all duct joints be taped during installation, I can imagine what duct runs in our walls look like.
  10. Basically you need fuel+spark+compression to run. Lets assume comp is ok for now-can you check if plugs are wet (fuel) and you have spark? If no spark look for simple things first, kill switch....is shifter in neutral etc. Move blk shifter and see if it clicks into neutral, eliminate the simple things. Where are you?
  11. Yep, straight across from goerki's channel or turn right and look for new weed growth. Sent you a pm with chart links-should help. We launch from Goerski's a lot, had my kids at their beach and pools-seems like a great park for young kids. I'm always dragging my son off the giant tires at the playground area-your family should like that park.
  12. Not a drain near by Rick?....usually the tube is just dripping into a basement floor drain. Close all the basement vents on ducts for the summer-look for a 'balancing' louver to direct more air to upstairs branches for summer season. Most duct work is poorly installed, if you take a roll of duct tape and seal joints at elbows etc there will be far more cold air flowing upstairs. This is only possible on duct work in unfinished basements but if acessable it'll help a lot.
  13. Plenty of boats larger than 19' enjoying Scugog. It is shallow/weedy, be cautious till you get to know the lake and you'll be fine. In summer boats tie together across lake from Cesarea launch at sand bar-you can get to know people, talk the lake with other owners there. Some weeks I trailer up and launch 3-4 times, weeds can be a bugger but thats where the fish are. Watch your telltale stream, little common sense and you won't hurt your engine. Heck, I'm under my boat many trips to clean jets intake grate but keep going back. PM'd you charts that should help you get started.
  14. Not very comfortable, buddy has them on a tinny that gets dragged around at his cottage. Seats didn't break on him with teenage boys climbing all over them. Some Princess auto's have tractor seats with some padding for cheap. More comfortable but harder to keep clean.
  15. Which engine-serial numbers are placed in numerous locations. Usually on a small square metal plate rivetted on or round thin metal that looks like a freeze plug. Lower end or outdrive could have serial number plate also, even larger jet pumps have serial number plates.
  16. I was reading on iboats that Pennzoil full synthetic is good for DFI engines and a good price.
  17. Don't leave us hanging-this sounds interesting.
  18. It would be a lot easier to offer advice if you told us exactly where you were fishing
  19. Always a few smaller boats out btw Whitby & Darlington in summer-fall 'drift fishing'. Seen guys using minnows with kids, others jigging spoons-haven't had much luck doing either myself instead of trolling. At dusk when salmon are staging at tribs heads is another story, you can fish 'on the cheap' casting Cleos and should get plenty of action.
  20. Lots of old boats are holding 400 lbs of water in the flotation foam.
  21. You mentioned picking up a "new boat" New Angler.....make sure you have everything necessary to pass inspection on the water and be safe. Can be expensive buying things last minute, searching samll towns for a whistle (signalling device) or whatever. Scugog is a hike from where you will be, Sturgeon is a good place to start. Certainly don't mean this to sound negatve but you sound like a newbie-some morons can be real pr!cks at boat launches....if this is your first time launching Sunday afternoon might not be the time to learn. I'm going to pm you links to a bunch of charts I scanned, hope you have a great summer with your new boat.
  22. If you do a search on rivets at iboats boat repair forum the recomended repair will be an all aluminum solid 'blind' rivet dipped in 3m's 5200 or gluvit. That is if your only prob is a few loose rivets-and as we mentioned try to find out the cause of these rivets working loose. If you or a buddy has a pop rivet gun you can just drill heads off the loose rivets and work from one side.
  23. Are the bunks/rollers set up well on your trailer-anything shifted and not supporting properly? Might have been the drive to Erie and not the lake. There are blind rivets available that seal, and good transport truck repair shop could fix you up in driveway in 10 minutes. That's assuming your only problem are the few loose rivets visible. I can't see the pics-are the problem rivets below the water line? If so your flotation foam could now be water logged.
  24. Current license numbers on the boat as well as the Mfr's Hull Identification Numbers (HIN). Serial number off motor and lower end. Clear description of boat: size-type-year and engine.
  25. You guys talking about big plastic tanks with steel cage? I picked one up for a buddy's camp a few years back-it had juice concentrate in it. Hosed it down at self clean car wash (no soap) on way in and it was spotless. Be careful, guys damage the big plastic valve close to the bottom moving these things around....make sure the one your getting is in good shape. I found a reducer pipe fitting attached to one tank we needed so take a few minutes to look things over.
