Read through a post the other day on Orvis Battenkill and saw a link posted by wvfisherm on albright fly rods and reels. Reminded me of a US angler that always came up to Temagami and fly fished for smallies. We fished several time together and he had an Albright reel that I really liked. I went onto the Albright site and wow Year End Sale The selection is getting thin but 70% off on reels, rods and their waders. I gonna pick up 2 - 9/10 weight reels and run them for salmon in the riggers this year. Might even add a rod or 2. I've seen the GP rods and reels and at this price it's a great deal. I just wish they still had my size for the wading shoes @ $20 Thanks again for the link

If you make them yourself, check out Lee Valley wood selection. They sell a lot of exotic woods for making pens and other stuff. Saw a nice 1"x1"x6" block on Saturday there, Purple Heartwood or something like that . They also sell Zebrawood and some colored laminates all ready for turning. Nice thing is you don't have to buy a big chunk just to do handles

When Bass Pro Shops opened in Vaughan my first stop was to the customer service desk asking if they honored the BPS Rewards program card. I received a rousing yes and on several occasions after I even got the same confirmation from BPS cashiers and direct from head office. I did as asked and kept all my receipts, followed their instructions and mailed in to collect my points. I had a fair bit of spending to do with the boat and huntingh and fishing gear. After a very lengthy delay I received a very informal and cold email from Springfeild head office saying that due to miscommunication the Rewards card will not be honored in Canada. No apology nothing. I purposely bought a lot of product there just because of the points where I'm much closer to Lebarons and Fishing World. Needless to say BPS does not get a lot of my purchases anymore. It still makes me mad to this day. Not trying to dampen your hopes but my experience on trying to get back money or points with BPS is not good at all. Good Luck and hope you get taken care of.

Yep Radio World would be my nomination as well. It's not far off the 400 and a really nice store to browse through. Excellent counter staff who know the product. I can't keep up with all the new features they way I like to in the past. Usually BPS and Cabelas start clearing out last years models after Xmas. Watch those sites in January and you might come across a good deal. I missed one last year on a Lowarance LMS

Well made the trip up to BPS this morning to pick up a couple more bags to hold the plano trays. To my much happy suprise I find tucked away amongst the hook aisle the new Mustad Slow Death hooks. These simple worm hooks designed to spin a crawler just like a salmon flasher and fly. They've been the secret of the pro walleye tour for the last 2 years. I saw a bit of footage on them in the spring and figured to bend my own. Experimented with a few in temagami this summer and caught fish pretty consistent on windy points drifting. For all you walleye guys, these are pretty neat and so simple it amazing nobody thought of it before. Ran a 3/16 brass sinker, ball bearing swivel and 6ft of 8 lb flouro to one of these hooks. Oh yeah I bought a new turkey slate for next spring, gotta start practicing now.

Maybe I can help bridge the gap. I have 2 Daiwa SS reels and 3 BPS Pro Qualifiers and have used a fari number of Shimanos and Abu's. I bought my BPS last winter when the Vaughan store had a few sitting behind the counter for $49 each. I have 2 1500 and a 2500. Very nice reals and enjoyed fishing with them as my main reels this year. They could have a bit wider range on the drag adjustments. Even when mine are backed off totally there's resistance on the spool when you take out line. You can tighten the drag adjustment up and feel little if any difference for about 2 full turns and then in one turn you get complete full drag. I use these reels for pike, bass and walleye and find them OK. I would not use them for Steelhead with that drag. My 2 steelhead rods are sitting by the computer rigged and ready to go. One has a SS700 and the other has my SS1300. These reels are 15 years old and probably could use new drag washers but are tansk and will outlast anything else I have. Oh yeah forget about ice fishing the PQ's. The drag does not like the cold. Depends on what you want to use em for and how $ they are. Anything under a $60 price would be a good deal especially if you get the free shipping from BPS (I think it's still on?). If it's straight up price the Dawia and Shimanos are always a great reel. One reel I see a few places blowing out for $50 is the new Cardinal 3. Bronte outdoors has them for $49 and I think I might pick one up as a back up or fun reel.

I'll second the Magnotta trip RF. There not a better bottle of wine for under $6 than their French blend white or red. Many of their wines are also sold by case lots. There's a Magnotta store right at Dixie and Dundas. South on Dixie, 1 block from Dundas on the East side. The Trionfo red is very nice as well as the Incanto White. My favs right now I started drinking the Magnotta wines after several very bad experiences with vintages at the LCBO that came highly recommended. I may not have the refined tastebuds for the expensive stuff so all I care about is whether I like it not the $.

For those upcoming long winter nights I had forgot about this US web site until a few days ago when a guy at work was asking about ATV auctions. It's chock full of insurance write offs for ATV's, boats, bikes and any other sports vehicles. My buds and I used to surf it with the plan to drive over to the US and pick us up a really cheap bike, atv, sled and fix it up. Just flipping through the different vehicle posts is a bunch of fun and reading all the damage, descriptions is neat. Look for the fire and hwy accident write offs. I have a Coleman Black Cat that works great but would rather take out a single burner stove with me now. I have a Coleman Powerpack single burner that uses the 1 lb bottles. Burns with twice the BTU's and cost way less than a Black Cat. 1 bottle still last a full day When the fish aren't biting at least i can cook up some soup of even fry up some moose sausage. Go with a single burner you won't regret it

Well here's my 2 cents I looked at many different makes and models and had very much the same intent. I had previously owned a 16ft Lund w/25 and then had a 18ft Fisher Bass boat w/115. Wanted a Kawarthas, Lake Ontario, bass, muskie, salmon, Lake Temagami, flipping, trolling, jiggin, downrigging, casting boat. Now with that said I also had 2 small kids and a wife that occasionally would like to go for boat rides and we also like to do some tubing, water skiing. I fianlly found what I feel is that all round boat. I bought a 1750 Crestliner Fish Hawk and have been very happy. I really like the new Triton as well. Very similar boat at a little less $. If I had to do it over I might have held out for an 1850. For me I do too much front desck fishing to go with a full windshield. Good Luck in your search

I gave an Lowrance LMS522 try this summer. Unit was installed and plugged in and nothing else. It took about 10 minutes to navigate through and get comfortable with settings and options, much less than I expected. Color and detail was very impressive. We used it Laker fishing on temagami and GPS, nav tracking and weigh point features very easy to use. Even drove home in the dark using the navionic maps. Really nice to have. The internal GPS antenna took a few minutes to fired up - not too bad. I've always been a Lowrance user but like the advancements on the Hummingbird top end models. If you're gonna spend $6-700 I'd go Lowrance. On the LMS522 I would have liked to go to the bigger screen but it's a big price jump with Lowrance

I heard this driving in this morning. What a moronic and ecomonic negative impact involving the limit of 1 passengers. What about any 21 year old taxi drivers/bus drivers . I guess they're out of a job. I see a ton of kids car pooling into the high school every morning. What I would really like to see if zero tolerance on the habitual D&D. How many people are still driving with 3 or more convictions.

drop into the ministry office in guelph. There are a number of agreement forest plots that allow bow hunting and some even shotgun. These get busy on the weekends but at this time of year they start to thin out. I used to hunt the Pusclinch tract and saw a few mighty fine deer. Most ministry offices have some agreement forest maps that will point you in the right direction. I live in Oakville -79D and can tell you there's little if any spots you can hunt in. Crown land sites here are usually conservation areas with posted no hunting signs. There's a few forest tract West of here but they get hit hard.
