  1. If you catch the fish it counts on your limit even if you "gift it" to anyone else with or without a license. You catch 2 trout and gift them, legally your done till those trout are consumed. The CO's watch very closely on Simcoe for the passing on of daily trout and whitefish. If your in a group of 4 and you personally catch 4 whitefish and keep them all they can not be counted on other licesnses in your group. Strange one Wayne The older CO from Sudbury that rides with Bear Island OPP boat tells a completely different story. Each license catches their own fish for limits no gifting allowed. Some anglers at the camp have been questioned hard last couple of years on the hub as they see the guys out fishing but no wifes. Had them on the dock a couple times talking to guests.
  2. One of my first part time jobs was working at The Outdoors Store in Dixie Mall. Right after I started it changed to Collegiate Sports but we still kept a very large footprint in the store with fishing, hunting and camping. I worked a couple of sportmans show for them and one year was set up right beside the scuttlebutt lodge display with Red Fisher signing his books of poetry. What a character. I remember our first shipment of Fenwick "graphite and boron" rods. Kept them locked up behind a glass case with the long guns If any of you know that store or have been associated with the industry I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bill Robertson or Richardson ?? (I hope I have his last name right it might have been something similar) Bill went on to work a number of years in the early 80s in the service department at the Mitchell store located on Haines Road in Mississauga. Wonder what ever happened to him. Shorter guy, big beard, very nice fellow - we had several memorable day trip for smallies and trout
  3. Big Sand Lake Lodge In Northen Manitoba June 16th dream trip 5 full days fishing lake trout, pike and walleye Lake Temagami last 2 weeks in July Planning an weekend camping thrip to Lingham Lake chain Many day trips for Carp, bass, salmon muskie this year
  4. WM For the type of fishing you describe, I've had good success with the following Black leach type jigs - Berkley Jigworm #1 for me Also have been catching a number of walleye on 4" dark colored senkos. In deeper water I rig them on a jig head or carolina rig. These have caught some bigger summer walleye for me when fishing smallmouth Started getting fish on Xraps and another fav is the rattle baits too. Cast to shore structure for covering water I never leave the dock without a bottom bouncing rig and worm harness, Orange and white blades have been the ticket last couple of summers. On Temagami we target 25 ft depths in July/August and a little shallower in the back lakes. If you're up there in May-beg June give the east end of Shiningwood bay a try. The north shoreline towrds the end of the bay gets a fair bit of fish after the season opens. They're scattered through there so trolling or drifting is a good bet. Walking sinker and floating jig head tipped with minnow of worm.
  5. MF For sure something I'd really like to try. Got the mouth calls which drive the wife nuts. Just never have been able to make the committment on scouting to find a spot and birds. My brother just bought 9 acres north of hamilton and has seen a bunch of Jakes - must be some toms around too. Maybe 1 of these years - it's hard to break tradition for me same spot 22 years running now!
  6. Instead of a combo sink your money into a reel. You can pick up the BPS Extreme for $59 on the website, cost you about $20 in tax and shipping to get it here. I have 5 of these and for the money best reel I ever fished with. The tourney special rods are a good value to start with. As well theres some very decent rods at LeBarons for $40-50 Watch for the reels to go on sale at toronto store for $69
  7. Water was super clear and fish were very tight to cover. Worms, roe and 2 fish on a #10 stonefly pattern. All fish were spawned out and many heading back downriver through the morning. Bite was on till about 9 am then it went very quiet. This one was very long and had a big chunk out of the side. Around 28" maybe all of 5 lbs though nice color this was a battler, many jumps and took me through 2 log jams, Well I don't think there'll be anything left in the river for next weekend so I'm going salmon or crappie fishing
  8. Watch out for the ones that don't have easy access to the fuse. Screw off caps are the best. I went through 2 of the "pry open" ones. With the sunlight that cap tended to become hard to open and it was a bit of a pain. If you get around port credit drop by "The Store" at PC Yacht club. Nice stuff in there for rigging I put several in my old lund and by far one similar to this worked the best for installation, access and ease of wiring Fuse Block West Marine
  9. Yeah it looks like my 21 stright years of same river for trout opener might be in jeopardy. Walked a bit of it this week and can't believe how low it is and ultra clear. No sign what so ever of even a drop back trout which is strange as there's a ton of wood and overhang in some stretches. Always end up seeing a few strays here. Crappie fishing sounds better and better water is receding nicely through most of the kawarthas
  10. MJL Walked the credit from Burnhamthorpe down today - armed with my camera looking for some nature very suprised to see how low and clear the water had got in last 2-3 days. Almost looked like summer
  11. Around most of the major tribs you can catch silvers (smaller salmon) in the spring casting spoons and body baits. I've been poking around Bronte as it's only 10 minutes from home and there's a few guys down there but not much catching right now. Last year I got into a coupe nice 4-5 lb chinook and 1 coho casting off the breakwall We used to hook into the odd laker up on the flats on the credit in the spring but never seen a salmon past the rivermouth area
  12. Not by my read of the regs. Scugog reopens next saturday with the rest of the kawarthas. Last year ministry were parked at Port Perry launch waiting for fishermen through April
  13. My wife keeps telling me i behave like a 12 year old does that count
  14. Direct from a recent article from Doug Stange (Infishermen) his best Northern Canadian Pike lure is a 4/0 or 5/0 willow leaf blade on a safety spin rig attached to a 4/0 - 1/4 ounce jig head. They get the safety spin and willow leaf blade rig from the storm wild eye series - keep the spinner rig and toss the storm bait. On the 1/4 oz jig head they run a saltwater Berkley swim bait called a Pogy. I'm headed to Big Sand Lake in Manitoba in June and will make sure that I have a good number of these handy.
  15. Open from Hwy 2 to the lake all year but after May 1st you can only fish from the boat launch to the lake. No fishing signs are posted through the marina portion. This is a city bylaw enforced by the little white clown cars. I'm still looking for 100% clarification on the Hwy 2 north to rebacca street bridge In new regs the sanctuary reference is gone but last time I checked the signs where still posted above Hwy 2. I will check again soon.
  16. Yes - He would have to have the proper license to legally fish out of posted Ontario seasons. Fishing/Hunting clubs sometimes do this with trout ponds on their property and same license applies to public fish ponds like the one in Shannonville I grew up with an uncle that had a private trout pond and we could only fish by the regular seasosns as the pond was checked regularly by local MNR guys. The MNR would even phone my uncle when they found other anglers trespassing or fishing out of season.
  17. OK I have a 2001 1750 Crestliner with a custom cover from previous owner. It's made from heavy canvas and has never been very water repellant. In the driveway I always have to put a blue poly tarp over top to keep insides dry. I want to stop the double tarp and will be trying a bit of McGiver next week. Gonna buy a couple gallons of Canadian Tire Canvas Tent Waterproof and a big garbage can. Gonna soak the old cover and see if it works once dry. At the same time I'm doing some web surfing on a custom cover and would appreciate any experiences with online sites and especially any specific type of custom tarps. Anyone pick up one of the BPS Semi-custom tarps like the Attwood 600 or similar OK to pm me

  19. Just for calling Wilmot creek - the "willy" you should be banned from all steelhead rivers. Probably calls em chromers too! There is only 1 secret steelhead river in Ontario and I plan to be there on opener and count me as a big vote for limiting access to rivers at this time of year. I totally agree with you Wayne. I don't understand why we protect every other fish during spawn except steelhead.
  20. That was awesome
  21. Actually dropped in to the old temagami office and when they closed it a number of years ago picked up a copy at Gravenhurst.
  22. Might have better luck trying to get info on back lakes. We used to get the stocking reports for that region from the MNR office but that was a few years ago.
  23. Most now all have the boat size rating on them If you buy 2 don't down size I run one off the back and then off the nose so you get a wide open side drift and socks don't get in the way of landing fish. It's nice to have 2 out in real heavy winds
  24. L2F hit it on lures. Early the boards are best presentation. I also run a fair number of #2 evil eyes and taped up sutton 44's. Cleos are also a good board spoon but only if you're out in 40+ FOW. Never had luck in tight. If you can get your hands on some perch and gold colors minnow baits, their deadly in shallow. As mentioned the shallow bite never really hit last year and I spent most of my time from 80-230 straight out from Port Weller. Many a day the Frog or spook colored flasher was the ticket. Lakers will tend to be bottom oriented so be prepared to troll on bottom in 100+ FOW. Don't be scared to run a small gang troll either
  25. You can launch at 2 diffierent spots Queenston boat ramp and travel down river right to the "niagara bar" or at Port Dalhousie or Weller. Both ramps are a little west of the bar but for spring fishing this is the big trolling area fro lakers and chinooks Check out spoonpullers site for more details. Also google niagra river fishing for some additiona maps and river info Lots of new regs about US border waters and crossing with a boat. I lost track after several mile long posts and have rezolved just to fish CDN waters now. Best to have a good gps mapping system if you plan on drifting the bar just to ensure you don't accidentally get into US waters. Many first timers get caught up in the action and get mixed up. Niagara bar is really good with the right wind - anything from the south. Otherwise it can get very rough with outflow from river hitting the current break
