  1. Colts, sun screen and a Rock Star energy drink.
  2. For regular mono line I really like fresh line. I change up every couple of trips I have most of my spinning reels with about 1/2 the spool filled with backing. I like the red or yellow Raven so it's very visible. Then I fill the rest of the spool with my line weight and type needed. A simple blood knot joins the main line to my backing. I usually get up around 3 spinning reel refills out of a single spool of line so changing up is actaully more affordable for me On reels were I might actually get into the backing once in a while I fill from a bare spool but still change at least every season Like Mepps said some of my braid outfits are getting to be 3+ years now. I remember last year finally pulling off some 50lb Fenwick Iron Thread. Who knows how old that stuff was
  3. Head to a dollarama and go down the summer aisle. They sell 2 items for the summer thant might help you. They have a thin closed cell foam bed roll for camping. I think it's a bout 1/4-1/2 thick. Also in the gardening area they have a 8"x14" kneeling pad for working in the garden. It's about 1" thick and I've used a few of these just re4cently to lock in my fish finder battery inot my small cooler so it doesn't bounce around. You also might find small swim boards there too.
  4. Fish predominantly the north end with a couple of honey holes mid to south side. I'm sure the same lures will work Smallies pop r's against the shore, xraps in the small size best colors for me where the clown and the green back. Berkley 3" gulp any color on a jig. and I'd never leave the dock without a good selection of 4" senkos. dark colors have been ridiculous the last couple of years but also white I drop shot now a lot for smallies up there and use the senkos and 3" Gulp Walleye I like to troll up there to cover water. Walleyes can be the hardest to find in that lake and they move around day to day. Bottom bouncers with a worm harness is hard to beat. Get some local advice as to places to start. At that time of year I don't think people fish deep enough. I like 25-30 FOW for trolling and then move up to 15-20 ft breaks/points for the evening bite. Chartruese and orange blades work best for me. If you do get on the walleye for jigging or just still fishing, slip bobbers are deadly. Worms, leeches and 3" Gulp all work under a slip float. Pike Find a good weed bed in 10 FOW. The best ones are close to wooded shorelines. Cross Bay/Lake is really good pike water. My pike bait of choice is a 5" swim bait. Saw the biggest pike of my life last year follow my swim bait right back to the boat. Just as I flicked it to change direction it exploded the water but missed the bait by a foot. My son doesn't want to go swimming up there any more. Lakers Everybody up there has their fav trolling/jigging spots. Off the riggers - Sutton spoons , ripplin redfins, J9 Rapalas, gang trolls with threaded minnows/small spoons. I also like to troll and achovy head rigged with 4" Gulp. For jigging, bad boys, crippled herrings, swedish pimples. Look for steep drop offs into 80+ FOW - or any deep water shoals/structures.
  5. Just finsihed with the Clam. Not too bad for smell but it will air out the rest of the week. All the ice stuff is away now and the long rods are coming out.
  6. had a 25G tank for years and went through the cichlids, snakeheads, arrowanna's and the freshwater gamefish. Moved up to a 50G tank when I moved to oakville and kept Peacock bass for a few years. By far the most entertaining fish I ever had. They grow fast and are always moving around. Went on a business trip one week and something happened to crack the heater and short it out. Temp dropped to 60F and they did not last too long. A shame as they males were getting a nice hump on the head and the colors were spectacular. For those in the GTA area, there was an aquarium place in the Chinese mall on Dundas and this guy was still getting peacock bass every now and then. Too much work for me now.
  7. I did my 16ft Lund with 1" chrome tube that Home depot sells. Same exact layout as the casting deck link. It worked out fine with 1 cross member that went under the supports to the floor of the boat.
  8. Malcolm and I were off the 12th on Saturday out in no mans land. I got a really nice whitefish 6.5lbs early and then nothing for us the rest of the day. Missed a bunch and marked a bunch and that was just the start of the bad luck.3 miles from shore the belt on Malcolms ATV blows. I get a ride back to shore by Orillias version of Jeff Gordon- Wow 60km/hr over that rough ice siting on the back of a pick up tail gate did my rear end so much good. I could hardly walk when they guy dropped me off. I was so thankful for the ride though - great people up there to lend a hand to city folk. To top it all off another group of guys (locals again) heard we were stranded and picked up they're sleigh and pulled the ATV back to shore. They wouldn't take a nickel from us even for a case of beer (which they seemed to have plenty of at their hut). My hat goes off to those guys for their help. Malcolms working on getting a new belt but I think we're done for the ice season now. The best part was having to drive my Expedition down this mudslide to hook onto the winch cable on the first bike and pull that ATV and the the sleigh with Malcolms 600 on it back up the hill in reverse. I could hear the winch cable popping and straining and was afraid it was gonna come flying back through my front windsheild I know it could have been alot worse for us if those guys had not come along. In fact it went pretty smooth and real fast once we got going. My truck a mess with the mud. When I got home I found 2 broken rods, a broken spinning reel (BPS Pro Qualifier), 2 broken rod stands, my seat frame was bent (but repairable) and everything in my sleigh covered with mashed salted minnow slime. Seems my tupperware container smashed into a billion little pieces and those salties spread over everything. I had to set up my clam in the back yard and power wash the inside of the tent out. Hope I can get the smell out. A fatty for sure. Go Team 4
  9. I've flyfish temagami for smallies over the years and found a handfull of patterns that out produce the rest Marabou muddlers in natural and white/yellows (size 4-1/0) big rabbit hair strip leeches (great pike fly too) deer hair poppers dahlberg divers wolly buggers Overwhelming best color has been black with splashes of orange and gold tinsel mixed in on all flies listed above.
  10. betcha it was in the garbage bin
  11. worms and craws in a double wide plastic tote - like a double wide shoe box - holds +100 bags gulp and twisters stay in their store packaging and go in a soft sided tackle tote bag. Bought it $9.99 at CTC and took out the 4 Plano trays to use elsewhere. Holds a whack of bags. Big front pouch for swimbaits, side pouches for odd stuff
  12. This has been around for a while but just in case you haven't seen it go to you tube and type in Squirrel a pult. I can't get the link at work here but trust me. I laughed for days and have been trying to make my own now for a bit
  13. Hey Solo, last week through the day there was a bunch of Stella's on ebay all ending around 3 pm. Had sizes from 1000 right up to 8000. About an hour before the end of the auction there were still a whack of them under $80. Darn it if my boss didn't drop by for a sit down "brain stormin" session. When he left it was 3:15 and I missed them all. Gee I hate being interrupted at work!!
  14. In store special. Saw them at Xmas in Buffalo and they only had stock of the 1000 and 500 size. I think it was $129 or something around that
  15. I hope they turn it around or it's gonna be brutal in the media. All I know is my Team Canada had Stamkos, St Louis and starting in goal would have been Luongo
  16. I bet ya that cat could last through at least 2-3 muskies
  17. not like it costs them about $10 overseas to produce a $300 reel. Who do they think they're fooling. And that folks is why I don't buy shimano!!!!!!
  18. west side of lake was pretty consistent 6" of powder snow on top of 8" or more of good ice. The walk is a good workout if you are trying to pull a sleigh. Snowmobile trails are all over but no cosistent pathways to take advantage on. I was very glad to get a ride out on Monday. We walked a good way out and I was soaked pulling a Clam
  19. I have 100ft right now on a 12lb anchor and store both the anchor and rope (coiled and tied) in a blue recycling bag. Any of the heavier recycling shopping bags would work too. I got tired of tripping over rope or having it loose in the storage compartments. I looked at different ways of storing the rope but they all took up too much space. Tried seeing if an air hose spool or extension cord holder would work but never found anything rugged enough to last and yellow nylon rope is the worst, get some good anchor rope like wb said
  20. I hope it wasn't a Sage 4 piece
  21. Hey Bondar I use a 12aH now that I purchases at Magnacharge in Mississauga for $43. Running a color Humminbird for ice fishing and after a full day hardly budged the voltage. They do sell a 20aH battery for only a couple bucks more but I found it really heavy and it is double wide over the typical 7aH
  22. They have been building houses in Milton for the last 2 years non stop.
  23. Only seen it one place this year and that was Fishing World Hamilton. $25 I think
  24. I guess I was one of the lucky ones who scored the BPS deal earlier before Xmas. I did find them still for $299 at http://www.bizrate.com/fishing-gear/oid1651543875.html but don't know what they shipping would be though and if duty or taxes are on top but maybe worth a call I just checked LeBarons website to see $ and what's available and I'd recommend that Nanook over any I saw there for the $ they were asking. That Trekker 2 is a nice hut but $200 more. The Nannok is a super solid unit and the chairs are removeable not permanently mounted. I travel with only one with me and it gives me a ton extra storage with no bars or rods getting in the way. I can also lift it in and out of the truck by myself. The one and only drawback is I find that the bottom bar and skirt doesn't contact the ice as much as I thought it would. It's only a bit of an issue if there's no snow on the ice. The skirt then flaps a bit in the wind.
  25. don't know the cost comparison but I have been really pleased with the Clam Nanook I picked up this year
