Not a great start to trout season. My son and I left Saturday morning a little bit before 5am. It was cold and no rain but that didn't last long. 10 minutes down the road I had to turn the wipers on high. When we finally got to the river, the water level was very high and totally mud. We stuck it out until first light, trying to muster up a few bites only to find the river rising and we were getting colder and wetter by the minute. Plan B kicked in and we headed back to the truck and looked for the closest Tim Hortons. The trail on the way out, Clearest water we found all day What a difference a day makes. Watched the local creek and there was defintely signs of clearing later Saturday. My son wanted to sleep in on Sunday so it was just me on a solo trip. Water was perfect and the river was back down to fishable levels. On the first bend I stopped at, it was all little guys just hammering the roe bag. Must have hooked a trout on 10 successive casts all around 7-8" long. Good sign for the future. Moved to the first deeper pool and didn't take long to hook up - bottom bouncing a whole worm Note to self, don't rely on my phone for a camera. Quality on high res is still horrible Bounced around between a couple of pools and ended up 9/11, most on worms. Biggest landed was 28.25" Now here's the fish story, Late in the morning I stopped at an old favorite pool. Years ago, my buddy Brent and I had a stellar day here, landing over 40 nice steelhead. At the end of the drift there was a dead deer floating in the river, stuck on the log jam. From that day it's been the "dead deer hole". Second drift through the pool I had my rod slammed as a big, a really big trout crunched my bait. Over the next 5 minutes this fresh silver charged through the pool, jumped several times and had me wrapped up in a couple nasty sticks. I can't remember ever having a bigger trout on in the river. My guess is 15lb and my hands were shaking trying to will it to shore. On the last jump it hit the water like a fat kid doing a belly flop and proceeded to wrap me up in the biggest root system on the bend. My last glisp of the beast was it's head shaking just above the water line about 3 feet back in the root system. I can't really remember the line breaking - just standing there trying to figure out what to do next. Oh well re-tie and hook up another worm and back tomorrow!

The 120 applies to any minnows you have in your possession, live or dead, store bought or self caught. MNR were actively checking the salties on Simcoe and letting evryone know it is part of the overall count. Try Google search with preserving cut bait using laundry bluing. The recipes are primarily used for salmon fishing but I've seen these preserved baits and boy do they shine. Scales don't come off and they don't go all white and milky.

It is a mess for sure. I'm about 10 minutes down the road and even our little creek was roaring all night long. Went out to pick worms and it was too cold for them to be out. What a difference from last year but that's fishing! I was taking Monday off to extend my weekend and do some quiter stream fishing but looks like I'll delay that day off till Thurs/Fri next week

I love my expedition too! As much as she loves the gas! Been looking at a new to me purchase maybe this year if gas continues to rise. Like what I see and hear about the pilot but also going to look at a GMC Acclaim and I think the Torrent too

Sitting down to dinner and look out across the road to see a wild turkey hen on the grass. I'm in dowtown Oakville though just a few blocks from the lake. They're everywhere! UPDATE after dinner Still walking around the neighbourhood like it hasn't a care in the world. I know my beagle is about ready to go through the front window.

Got up late this morning but figured I'd get in an hour of casting before doing any more reno work on the basement. Grabbed my rod and a handful of pier chucking baits and headed down to the river at around 9:00 am. It was looking pretty ugly, dark overcast but as yet no rain. Only 2 other guys on this side of the wall dunking roe and they hadn't seen anything. Rivermouth was completly blown out with muddy water and crud making casting difficult without hanging up on a twig or other stuff. They packed up and left about 30 minutes later. Started to notice more shiners right in against the wall so switched up to a long thin rattle bait, slowed the retreive down and cast parallel along the wall. That was the ticket. 2 quick browns in about 15 minutes both about 3 lbs. Nice and shiny lake fish. Kept the same casting routine up and saw several more chasers over the next hour - lots of lure bumps but no hook ups. Finally got the hooks into a nice one around 28" , 5-6 lbs One heck of a fight for colder water.Ran off a bunch of line a couple times. Fished another hour and lost a real big boy that hit right at my feet along the wall. This one was still pretty dark but couldn't do anything on such a short bit of line. Had to pack up as both my rod and my sons started buzzing and clicking as some dark storm clouds rolled over the lake. Could feel the static buzz right inot the handle and when I touched the tip of the rod to the ground it stopped. One big thunder boomer and that was the sign to get out of there!

Please tell me what this is from so I can watch more. I remember the Mrs Brown adds for the live show in Toronto. Just love this accent. They could read the dictionary and I would laugh. Kicking myself for not going. -

I went threw hell about 5 years ago when I ruptured C4,5 and 6 discs in my neck. Family doctor slapped me on the back and said to buck up it's only a pinched nerve and I shouldn't be complaining so much. A month of severe pain and no sleep. A quick turnaround from a walk in clinic doctor, off to Dr Trotter in Oakville and I had an MRI and was sitting in Dr Marmor's office (101 Queensway W)in less than 72 hours later. I must have had horseshoes as the discs relaxed 3-4 weeks before the surgery and my arm/leg pain subsided to a level I can live with now. I had a very comfortable feeling in all my visits with Dr Marmor (101 Queensway W). He came very highly recommended from my neurologist and the reviews on the internet from other patients were all top notch. He's associated with Trillium that usually does most of these types of surgery in the west end. He passed the "wife" test as she did all the digging inot the surgery and risks. Look him up, all I ever saw were glowing reviews and alot of God Bless him('s)!!! Good luck with everything and be careful with the percocet. They're some crazy/nasty stuff.

That rod's gonna look really wierd ice fishing up in Muskoka

Rafs right, although the DI from what I know is supposed to be the "NEW" technology fish finder. My gut tells me let everyone else try it and they'll work the bugs out until it's proven HD5 5 or HB597 will cover everything you need and then some!

I'll do that next time Brian. Was already really late and was thinking I was gonna catch it when I got home at 7pm. Said I'd be home by 4 or 5 at the latest Homer, I'll be copying that measuring tube. Nicely done and simple to use

Nice Report Homer, We hit the north end on Saturday too!. That wind was a killer as I kind of dressed for a mild day. Had to set up the hut and stay out of the wind till after 1pm when it started to warm up. Our group did OK as we set up on a big - deep inside turn along the shore. It's were I got my 18# last year and we've had good days here as fish tend to move through all day. Spoon bit started great in 90 FOW, about 10-15 ft off the bottom and had 6 before 15 minutes had passed. First one was 19" and the rest were really small. Bite continued to be good on the spoon up high for another hour and then nothing. The screen went completely blank. Time to change up. Rigged up a small Bad Boy and tipped with a minnow and a small stinger hook. Dusted the bottom and kept banging for a minute or so, then lift up and slowly wave the jig. Trout would just hang onto the minnow. If I hadn't had 8lb firleine I don't think I would have felt them at all... Finished the day with double digits and we had a much better size in the late afternoon. Two better ones later in the day. typical trout for the day. That's a six inch hole

OK it sold me! As soon as I saw it crawl under that dock I have to have one. Also almost soiled my pants when the fish hit Where did you order from Garry. Thanks

Had a few over the years and last year I picked up my first colour. Would now never fish without it. With the higher wattage (mines a 4000 HB)there is just no comparison with seeing whats down there but in color. Spend the money and get a colour unit, you'll never regret it

I've had my camera in there a few times. never have been stopped or asked about it. Just walked in carrying it in plain view. If there is a stipulation about cameras or recording devices it would be printed on your tickets
