Fang replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
T-bones, striploin and lamb in no particular order. did a beef tenderloin last night. Very tender but for the price I wouldn't rush out again to buy one -
Just picked up several bags of Matzuo plastics. On sale for 2.99. No colors in worms but nice tubes and a flipping creature in stock. will give them a try

My bet would be you need a new transducer

This week started about the worst way possible. I was given this week as the only allowable time off from my company as we're putting in a new computer system for Sept 1. Last Friday a huge email from the head office in Japan lands on our desks with urgent requests for updated budgets and production forecasts. I was supposed to start holidays on Monday but now had to work. Finally got all the reports done on Wednesday and said SEE YOU LATER!! Woke up early today and hit the road looking for any carp action around west end of Lake Ontario. Pretty dismal to say the least. Checked out 3 spots and was home by 10 with nothing to show for my time and gas. OK what's next ?? Why not a solo trip to get the bugs out of the boat as it has not seen any action so far this year. Quickly grabbed my 2 riggers, spoon box and a couple rods just in case there might be a chance to set up a troll. Launch was completely vacant of other boats. Got clear of the harbor and lit her up to 35 MPH for a good 30 minutes or so. Went almost across the lake to Grimbsy and back as it was pretty flat. Came back to Bronte area and decided to put down a rod. within 10 minutes a little shaker was on These things were all over the place. Decided to try to put the second rod down and kept getting interrupted by another hit. Found a great pocket out in 200 FOW and had good amount of hits right through to 2 pm when it died. Think the final total was something around 18 or 19 of those little guys. Loads of fun for a solo trip. No other boats around till later in the day. All fish were on Dream weaver spoons greens, blacks and the hot color was blueberry muffin. 40-50 ft deep on the riggers with sliders. Equal bite on riggers and sliders. Really good temp break out there off bronte in abbout 180 FOW. Had only 2 hits all day that actually popped the release and this one a little over 28" Work gave me some extra days next week so I'm off till Thursday and hope to get back out there for some more fun

Best big bass lure on Scugog is a muskie bucktail

The 4's have been dropping $ on ebay and usually go around $50-60 but that's without shipping. 3's still will cost you close to $100 in good shape. With a box you can get to that $200 mark pretty quick. It's a collector reel for those who saw/had them through the 70's and early 80's. Light years ahead of it's time and a drag system that still rivals todays top end reels for way more money. The weight and constant clicker makes this a display case reel for me, but I know of a couple guys who still use them all the time. Been actually thinking of picking up a 7 for carp just for a laugh.

Thanks guys for the input. I tried West Marine a while back for a different project (console) and they told me they didn't stock it in that store but since they moved I haven't been back in. Will be driving by there tonight on my way to the ball park. At the same time I'll check if they have marine carpet but I'm afraid of the price they want.

Looking for a source to buy real 3/4 inch marine plywood around Oakville. I have some deck hatches on my booat that need replacing and when I went to look was told all I will find is green pressure treated at Home Depot. I always believed that the green plywood does not have the lamination strength or tightness to compare to real marine playwood. I guess it would do in a pinch but looking for the right stuff. Thanks guys

Take those back. Small Senkos do not catch fish. Especially in Temagami

I bumped into a long lost fishing buddy last year and it would be nice if we could work out a trip up to his family cottage. Private launch for cottagers only and you could fish the whole lake without starting your outboard. My other 2 times on this lake about 10 years ago were very memorable. First 3 cast I had 3 smallies on, smallest was 21". The lake is hardly fished as most cottagers are non anglers and being a smaller lake there's really only car toppers or canoes out there. South side of the lake is all rock, cliffs and shoals, top end is 1-2 miles of floating logs, duckweed, lily pads and undercut willow bushes.

Best rod series in the $100 +/- price point ?
Fang replied to Lunker777's topic in General Discussion
My votes go for the Mojo and BPS Extreme. I have several Extremes purchased when they went on sale for $69 and have never felt the need to go out and replace these. Have both trigger and spinning and they perform flawlessly beside more expensive St Croix, Fenwicks and Diawa's. Last year I picked up 2 of the Mojo's to replace some older Team Diawa finesse rods (try and find these if you can) that were finally beat down and could not come back to life. The 6'8 Mojo drop shot is a really nice rod. Another light to medium series I like for similar money is the St Croix Premier -
What sites did you find useful to find this style of boat. I've been searching but have only really found Walleye Inc and then tons of bass boats

This post is killing me. I'm stuck in the city all summer with work and a basement reno. Malcolm leaves on Saturday for that exact spot. Was there last year for a week and did well on lakers and walleye end of June. You could kind of say that place is kinda home as I married into the family that owns it. Been moose hunting in the fall there for +20 years and have 10 or so fly in trips with buddies plus all the day trips in to help Rick with guests. Boy I miss that. Nice lakers and boy is the water level high this year. When the dock lays flat like that you know the water level is up. The narrows into Lady Evelyn (first pic)is our picnic spot and we always lay in those rock and drink beer. The rocks on the left side under water is what you normally stand on. Thanks for the pitures and report. Will make getting through today a little easier

My biggest carp ever came this way. 1/8 oz jig tipped with a leech off Rams Island in Hay Bay. It was long weekend in May and I was sure I had the biggest Quinte walleye ever. Never saw it for the fisrct 5 mio nutes or so. Took over 15 minutes to finally come in on 6lb test and I didn't have a net big enough. Never got a tape or scale on it cause I couldn't get it in the boat but I'd say in the 25 - 30 lb range Had another similar instance when I hooked a 15 lb sheephead in the niagara. Saw a quick flash of silver down deep and figured I had a monster bow on but knew something was wrong as all it did was sound back down to the bottom. Still an awesome fight I won't forget in both cases.

Try starting with the free spool backed off a tad more than for basic casting and start with a heavier weight say 3/4 oz. Get a decent 10 yard flip going and work on getting the lowest lure level off the water and a soft landing. From there you can work on distance and backing the free spool off a little more. If when you flip the lure keeps raising higher off the water then that's a sign your free spool is still a little too tight. I do a lot of practice in the back yard walking around and flipping to the base of trees, planters, under lawn chairs. It helps get in the groove before hitting the water As said your thumb is your best control.

There is a maximum length for goods so check with your airline. We flew into/out of Winnipeg a few years ago and did the 4" PVC tube with the threaded end/duct tape with no probelms. Managed to get 8 rods packed in easily I used to use a Plano travel tube but when it came out in the baggage claim in Florida bent in half, pretty much ruined my vacation. Sad to see 4 one piece rods in 8 pieces.

Trailer wiring won't work on 2003 Dodge Ram
Fang replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Make sure you check your fuses too. On my ford there are back up fuses for trailer brake, turn and hazard signals. I had a problem a couple years ago like this and rewired everything only to find a 5 amp brake fuse had blown on my panel. In your manual find the fuse panel diagram and check for any that are trailering connectors. -
Started out early this morning to check in around hamilton bay for any carp activity. Spot #1 - nothing, Spot #2 - nothing. Although I did bump into Viktor and Frozenfire, nice chatting with you guys, hope you did better than me at that spot. After a quick Timmies break spot #3 was just as barren. When I mean barren it was all cold water, very clear and no other local carp angelrs to be seen. When no one else is around I know that's my cue that not much is happening. Spot #4 did change for the better though. I walked to the shoreline and the water was alive with bubble tracks in front of me. I've never seen anything like that before. There was also nice dirty green water from the creek run off and every now and then you could see a carp come up to the surface. Hooked and lost a small one within the first 5 minutes. After that it was pretty steady with a bite every 20 minutes or so. Mostly smaller fish around 4-5 lbs but pretty feisty This one was 24 inches but fought great on 6lb and a steelhead rod Went 5 for 9 over the next couple hours and then got a good one. Funny not much of a fight on this one at all - 30" The rain was off and on and finally got too much so packed it up and headed home Final tally 7 for 10 (mostly small ones) 4 broken waggler floats 1 soaked folding chair (it fell in the water) lost most of my egg sinkers when the case tumbled out of my bag and spliied into the water and not the least 1 broken 13ft steelhead rod, snapped clean on the first guide above the ferrule. Strange very strange. Gonna see what the warranty on the Steamside rods are. Bought it at fishing world last fall but who knows where the bill is.

Loads of us that live and fish out of Oakville contacted the city last year when this was being pushed through. I had several emails responded to but honestly it was a futile exercise as the yacht club was putting huge pressure on city council. There's still a few salmon boats with mooring spots as you drive in and the one guy I happened to stop and chat with last year was getting out. They had pushed him from a river spot several years ago to way back up towards the entrance off River street. Told him that they needed the channel spots for bigger boats. I agree, I sure miss the old Bronte. I moved to Oakville 14 years ago and launched out of Bronte until all the vandalism started. Although nothing has ever happened to my trailer. I've seen flat tires and clean cut signal wires a few times. Last year I pulled in to do some peir chucking and the boat guys were cleaning up nails that had been left all over the boat launch Started using the 16 mile launch but it's gotten crazy busy down there too and never any parking because of that yacht club. Last year I paid my fee and launched at 6am - came back around noon to find my truck and trailer blocked in as there was function on at the club. Took over 30 minutes to find the idiots that were illegally parked. I was trying to look up the parking enforcement number when they finally came out - not one word of apology. too many inconsiderate rag bags on the water now for my liking.

you're ????? fly looks like a version of a muddler minnow As much as I ever tried I could never catch anything on those san juan worms
-
was waiting for that reply Wayne small orange blades in the spring work for me, plus I do a lot of drifting with worms on small jig heads and floating and lead head. Sometime they want them on the bottom sometimes up a few feet off.

Have made my own for years. #2-4 colorado blades, varied colors, a few small silver/gold beads and a brass body weight Only ever buy branded ones if I need bigger than #4's and then it's Blue Fox and a few left over old Olympiques I have that are used sparingly

Oh Boy! this is the number 1 spot on my bucket list. I've got locked out from holidays at work from April to October as a new computer system is going in live for Sept 1. Wife is miffed as it means no summer plans can be made. Plus I just dropped a boatload getting the foundation dug up and waterproofed. Have a great time guys! Be sure to take lots of pictures. For fun I just might pretend I'm going and pack up a tackle bag with several rod and reel combos. Now where did I put those Johnson spoons, bucktails and swimbaits Solo, Grimsby tackle had some very cool large plastic baits in bulk when I was there last. All I thought was big pike way up north. I had to buy a bag of 8" white sassy shads. Very jealous guys - enjoy

For shows at Massey I parked at Victoria/Richmond St E. Google Massey Hall and there's parking 1-2 blocks south on Victoria. 2 nice tavern style restaurants right there, Had a couple good meals at Duggans but that was a few years ago. Enjoy the concert
